I just unboxed my iPhone 12 Pro yesterday. I’ve filmed some short videos via the camera app and later uploaded them to my Instagram Stories.
The videos looked normal when uploading, but as soon as I posted them they suddenly appeared overexposed, super bright. I tried posting on my newsfeed to the same effect.
Has anyone else had this problem? What am I doing wrong?
this is how a video looks in Photos. Dark and dull. and of course when it goes to Instagram or Facebook it gets overexposed as you guys are experiencing.
anyway there’s a way you can “fix” is to go to Camera>Record video>turn off HRD video.
I found a way to avoid this without changing settings. You can screen record your video that has already been taken in HDR. Only downside is you lose any recorded noise in the video, or at least I did.
Once I uploaded the screen recorded video to Instagram it was no longer overexposed.
Same problem here! The whole reason I got this phone was to enable me to take high quality photos and videos for my Instagram page, because it’s my business. Photos seem to be posting ok to both the feed and stories but videos are completely overexposed in both, as well as in Facebook. Incredibly frustrating as this largely defeats the point of getting the phone!!
I have been having the same issue, it does that even when I upload to YouTube. Not only that but I keep getting errors for video playback when I transfer videos to my computer to edit.

Same problem! Video completely unusable on Instagram, which really is terrible!
Mine is exactly the same.. have you worked out how to fix it?!
Ask Instagram to fix their broken software.
You’re totally right - it might just be that the app can’t handle the higher video quality and might be corrupting the output. I’ll hit them up too!
Not yet :( It’s likely an app update that needs to happen to enable the videos to appear properly - I’m trying to let Instagram know. I’ll keep you posted!
I’m seeing the same issue on WhatsApp too. I’m wondering it is all FB owned apps or a wider iPhone 12 issue.

My friends saw the overexposed from my video when I posted onto my story....
Same issue. I’ve noticed that in the camera app, when I keep it on photo and push and hold to record (like IG) it uploads correctly. Not sure if that’s a different resolution or not. Try that out?
I’m getting the exact same issue when I uploaded tk IG’s stories and Post.
I even have problem when look at the videos in Photos. At first the video appears bright yet when i start playing the video becomes darker. Very annoying.
Is the IPhone 12 shooting dolby vision HDR by default?
If so it may be that the sharing sites can't handle that. Try turning HDR off - or converting the videos back to standard.
