iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

I just got off the phone with Apple after doing a free consultation session for 1 hour on using my iPhone 12 pro and it’s new features when the Apple advisor proposed to log into my phone and was showing me some features as my shared screen was on the phone got very hot particularly on the sides and on the back next to the designated free space opposite the cameras. This led to a triangle being opened in the top left of the camera app when opened with a question mark saying the device was overheating. The phone after the session has cooled down and I spoke to Apple that offered me a free exchange should I choose to do so and am contemplating as to what to do. Having just received the phone I am alarmed that the device became as warm as it did. worried if I exchange the phone the next one will be the same. Have some people experienced this problem?

The iPhone 12 will warn you when it truly overheats and needs to cool down; otherwise it is within design parameters for operation.

Note that "just surfing the Internet" can generate a lot of heat, as web pages typically have lots of animation, and the radios used for cellular data use a lot of energy as well.

This is especially true if you are using a 5G cellular network, or are in an area with only one or two bars of cellular signal such that your radios need to operate at full power.

The same is true if your WiFi signal is appreciably weak.

I have heatings problems too, but only for games.

I use same games that I used on iPhone 11 and there I had no problems, on the iPhone 12 i encounter slowdowns due to the overheating.

I installed few hours ago the iOS 14.2 GM and the problem is still here though is reduced than before.

For me is an iOS issue regarding the A14, in fact my friend’s iPad Air 4th have same overheating issues.

Hello,
The phone shuts down with about two hours of charing. I do not think it is a software issue, as I have turned off all apps and the issue persists. It is a hardware issue.

If you think it is a hardware issue, either contact Apple Support directly or return your phone for a full refund within 14 days of purchase and buy something else.

Never just hope there will be a fix for any product if you're convinced it's in the design.

Just don't know why some of you are having this issue. The iPhone 12 my partner has, has been streaming music for the last hour and the phone is running as cools as it could. There's another person in my office who got iPhone 12 on launch day. He plays video games (mostly candy crush) ALL DAY LONG and his phone is running as cool as our iP 12 runs.

Have you force closed all Apps, then performed a Forced Restart on your phone since you've been experiencing overheating? If you haven't, you definitely should.

That's OK.......You don't have to agree with me. But it is fact that lot's of data requires all the data to re-index to a new device. if someone for example has thousands and thousands of photos, it can take hours to a couple days for all that data to be properly indexed. And that requires the battery to be used a lot. It's been this way since the beginning of iPhone and iOS. But it doesn't matter to me if you agree or not.
