iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

Hello, I just bought an iPhone 12 today and I seem to be having the same issues. I began using the phone right away after it was set up, to download apps and make it more personalized as we all do, but I did experience it heating up right away, and extremely hot as well. This got me worried which led me to researching and it brought me here. Please let me know if you find a solution! That was too much money to spend on something that overheats in just a few minutes.

Many "Geniuses" don't really understand the technical details, ime @bao194.

How old is the phone, have you restored a backup, how big is your photo library & other parts of your backups? Have you checked what "background" battery consumption you've had in the past 24h.

Advice: give it a few days...

It'll do it's background business and calm down.

Most of the work is recalculating it's AI-comprehension of your photos which doesn't backup to the cloud to protect your privacy (IIRC). Mine's now a few days old and running amazingly & cool.

Hey! Yeah thanks for replying to me but it is the brand new iPhone 12 and it is kind of lagging and this dude have the audacity to say. “I see nothing” I literally show it to him to his face. Ah ok I’ll give it a few day to see what sup. But the apple story at North Star mall are the most unfriendliest place I ever been to. This girl who checked me in was so rude too. And add onto the guy who so called “genius help” like all he was background check it from his computer. Yikes man what a horrible experience

FWIW - I wouldn't trade in based on it getting hot. The 12, 12 Pro & 12 Pro Max all have the same A14 chip and the same form factor... so I suspect they'll all present the same symptoms... and every time you restore your backup it will do the same thing for a few days.

It's literally a function of  devices working hard protect your privacy - nothing more.

I tried Apple in London and in Dubai. The staff in London are brilliant so are the staff in Dubai ( not as much though).

Very helpful

my iphone 12 pro was really hot to handle when I used the 5G and then started to heat up when I use the WiFi as well.

After updating to 14.2 and switching it off for 5 minutes , do far so good even with 5G . It has been 3 days since the update. Try that and see

Good luck

I have the same issue with overheating iPhone 12 Pro. Not sure if this issue occurs on all 12 models or only 12 pro. Mine is overheating while using or charging to the extent that it was too hot to hold in hand. I applied for replacement and just received the replacement now. Since I have seen many comments on overheating, I believe that the replacement may also experience the same issue (as common for 12 Pro). I charge with my previous charger, iPhone 11 max charge. Overheating occurs regardless of being charged or just regular usage of the phone.

For me, they ran a entire diagnostic on my phone and checked my storage and also what apps/programs I use the most for any battery bugs. Didn’t help and they didn’t show anything. I undated iOS but I still have major heating issues. Im now just clearing out everything when it gets hot and waiting a few minutes to reuse the phone and it cools down. My 11pro was the best and had no issues. Dealt with this with the 5 but no problems since. This is pretty bad but they aren’t doing anything but saying report issues and go to store.

Not trying to start an argument but do you have the 12 bc it seems like u don’t understand what everybody is saying I’d understand if the phone was warm from charging streaming and having a ton of extra apps running but for it to be to hot to hold in your hand is a problem especially when you’re just charging it with no background apps open and just watching Netflix on using WiFi then even without the message it is overheating I shouldn’t have to worry about my case melting because I have my phone on the charger
