iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Just got mine 2 days ago. Noticed higher than normal temps during setup but nothing overly unusual. But...later started noticing a lot higher than normal temps during usage. The phone specifically got VERY hot while downloading content from YouTube. Once I paused the download the phone cooled off immediately. Once the downloads were resumed - high temps spiked up once again. Makes me wonder if that’s an actual hardware issue with their new 5G modems. Definitely should not have happened in neither case described by various users. What’s the point of buying the product if it can’t deliver the performance. What’s the fix is worth if in order to resolve the problem you need to turn everything off. It’s like buying a 6 cylinder car with only 4 working. Yet you have to pay a hefty price for it. What a disappointment.

I’ve had mine (12 pro max) since the release date. It had been working fine for about 7 days. Now the upper end of the phone (opposite the cameras) is heating up a lot. Even stranger is now when it’s plugged in, the part of the charger that goes in the phone is getting hot, which has never happened to any of my previous iPhones. I upgraded from a 7plus and it had a brief period years into having it with warming up, but not within the first week.

just before writing this, I had it off charging and when I picked it up, it was actually a bit too hot to comfortably touch. I do not have the magnetic charger either.

its a lot of money to pay for something that might be messing up this soon, hopefully it gets figured out.

In the last 9 days I have called apple care twice about my iphone12 mini. Even reported the reason why I bought the mini was that after updating my iphone 7 plus to ios 14, it was getting too hot, i could barely hold it. And I told him that I believe the issue is with ios 14 rather than the hardware.

He responded "Ok let me take down this feed back" and told me to go to the nearest authorized repair center.

I think, each and everyone of us should to call apple to get their attention, as I strongly believe this is a firmware issue. Also hope they get rid of the useless app library!

I wonder is any apple employees are reading this thread.

This is a user to user only forum. Apple employees, the ones you want to hear you, are not on this forum.

My iPhone 12 was set up as new. I had dropped call issues with Verizon. Apple support had me connect my phone to my MacBook running Big Sur to restore the device. Afterwards, the Issue with dropped calls continued. Days later, I reset the device by "Erase all Content and Settings". I then set up as new. Dropped calls continued. I then switched to T-Mobile. The dropped calls stopped but now the phone overheats. I am wondering if the phone needs to be set up as new again.

If a lot of people (like really a lot) call up on Apple Support, Apple will eventually elevate this situation, and it will be very hard to avoid, but the main problem is the SIM card, there is no other hardware issue, so people need to get a new Sim Card specially for the 5G, and if it doesn’t work, reset the device, set up as new, the put the SIM card in. If it does persist, talk to Apple Support

Per Apples recommendation I connected a brand new iPhone 12 to my MacBook running OS Big Sur. Apple had me restore the device using finder to open the device. After the IOS was reinstalled over the internet, I set the device up as new. I signed in to iCloud, then powered the device off. I then proceeded by powering the device back on. I then installed the SIM card and there you have it. An iPhone 12 that overheats when charging. Unfortunately I can not make phone calls without a SIM card. The SIM card has been replaced 3 times.

Same experience. Just got an iPhone 12 Pro Max in gold and on the third day the screen locked while I was using the phone with a message that the phone is not available until the temperature lowers. I suppose it’s a good way to reduce screen time but imagine you’re on a call or zoom mtg and it get too hot to function... Will try to contact Apple support on this.

I just got my phone yesterday and I’ve been using it today. The battery is lasting a long time which is great and it’s super fast on 5G. I have WiFi turned off cuz it’s faster on 5G for some reason and I could feel it heating up through my case without even being plugged in. I took my case off and closed all my background apps to see it it would cool down and it’s still warm...

My iPhone 12 Pro has overheating issue and battery drain. I have only had my phone for a month. It’s with little activity like browsing internet, Facebook, check email. Occurs within 5-10 minutes of any activity. FaceTime makes the phone so hot that you have to get off and let phone cool before using again. Heat seems to be mostly on left side and center. When you contact Apple support they say this is not a known issue and nothing can be done but possibly send a “like new” phone. This is so wrong to spend all this money on a phone and so many people reporting this issue and nothing be done about it other than sending a used phone. I have turned off all backgrounds activity, removed case, turned off 5G, reset settings, erased and started phone as new and nothing has worked.
