iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Been doing a few tests the past few days and it seems that my iPhone X with 80% max capacity battery is losing a little bit more battery than the new 12 pro but at the same rate almost.

this morning an hour in after I woke up playing with both phones same apps at the same time now I’m with 92% on my 12 pro and 91% with my 10 (remind you, it’s 80% max capacity)

losing almost 10% an hour on a new phone without using any videos by the way, this is ridiculous.

I've tried to stay out of this the sky is falling thread, but you are actually quite correct. When moving data over from one phone to a new phone, especially if there is a LOT of data, such as photos in the multiple thousands, it takes a lot of indexing to move the data and that causes the battery to work hard for what can be a few days depending on the amount of data.

I have the same issue with overheating iPhone 12 Pro. Not sure if this issue occurs on all 12 models or only 12 pro. Mine is overheating while using or charging to the extent that it was too hot to hold in hand. I applied for replacement and just received the replacement now. Since I have seen many comments on overheating, I believe that the replacement may also experience the same issue (as common for 12 Pro). I charge with my previous charger, iPhone 11 max charge. Overheating occurs regardless of being charged or just regular usage of the phone.

I purchased a 12 pro max and I’m having the same issue with overheating. I haven’t yet updated my service to 5G, and the phone is very hot to the touch. Support claims it’s just because the phone is doing so much while restoring, but I haven’t had this issue before with other iPhones. It’s pretty bad so I’ll likely return the product.

I have been having the same issues! I just got my new 12 pro yesterday and have already been noticing the overheating and the battery life is not as good as they usually are when they first come out. My sister who also got a 12 pro a week ago is having similar issues. Mine was overheating today when it was plugged into CarPlay, while I was on snapchat, instagram, Facebook etc. Like you said, it's minimal usage that is causing the overheating. I'm just waiting for them to send a recall and a new phone lol. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly because mine heats up in a matter of minutes to where it is very noticeable and almost alarming. Mine doesn't even get hot when it's charging so I don't know what the issue could be.

Previously I only got the dimming-then-cool down message on two occasions: 1) iPhone 4 and 5s, BMW charger, and 2) in the middle of summer.
The latter one is solved by tossing in the pool (thanks IP68).
the former issue solved by... better charging with air flow.

You do know your iPhone is water resistant, NOT WATERPROOF. Should the phone be water damaged, your iPhone warranty does NOT cover water damage. It is MOST UNWISE to EVER submerge your phone in water. It could be a VERY expensive mistake.

Yeah mine used to overheat too. I would just use it normally and it would begin to get hot. Since the iOS 14.2 update I haven’t experienced it lately. However Today my iPhone 12 pro’s screen has also periodically flickered black. I could be on Instagram, tiktok, google chrome, etc. and it’ll just pop up a black display for half a second. Not too sure why
