iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Hi - I just got my iPhone 12 pro max supposedly a trusted brand and I have to face this disturbing problem of over-heating after a brief use. I used the original Apple adaptor and original Apple cable to charge. Can Apple advise on such problem!!! Very irritating since you are either holding in your hand or near your ear/face area. Even my IPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro Max perform better than the latest Apple product IPhone 12 series. Very disappointing!!!

I have a iPhone 12 Pro Max and had overheating issues today. I had the Nest app on looking at my cameras and within 5 minutes, the screen came up saying it’s too hot and needs to cool down. The back of the phone was hot to touch. I let it cool down and it works now. Never had this problem with my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I am hoping this is purely a software issue. I use Call Of Duty and Roblox which takes a lot of processing power and have no overheating issues with them. Why only for Nest so far? I hope it’s fixed soon.

I simply don't get what could be going on with so many phones reported here. We have iPhone 12 and now 12 Pro Max. I've had my Pro Max now 4 days. I can stream music for hours, watch YouTube, Charge my Phone on a Qi charger and no heat whatsoever. I have to believe some of you brought something over from your backups you transferred to your phones in the set up process. Also, there are 2 others in my office who now have Pro Max. No heat issues with their phones either. None.

I received my 12 Pro Max on Saturday and am having two problems. The most concerning is battery life. Today I barely used the phone and closed all of the apps I was not using. The battery has gone completely dead by 6:00 pm.

The phone gets very hot when speaking on the phone so much so I have to keep my ear from touching the telephone.

I will call Apple to inform them and am so dissatisfied that I will not keep the phone if the problems cannot be resolved.

Out of the box my 12 pro was fine though the other morning I woke up to a temperature warning and the phone was literally too hot to tough without burning my hand. I’ve used the same wireless charging plate for all my devices and now am a little worried about leaving it in there. I don’t know if it’s connected but I did just update to the masters firmware release that day, I’ve rolled it back to the old one now while I could. I does seem a bit stupid of apple to blame the chargers when they don’t give you one to begin with.

I'm worrying the same thing here. Interestingly that my 12 pro didn't get heated when playing PUGB which most will assume this game does. But the 12 pro got overheated gradually when playing sugar crush which most will assume such 2D game won't do that.

Some said it might be the parts called IC with different quality and some said it's the app haven't got optimized for the new IOS.

Really would like to hear what apple official responds. If needed, will there be a recall product LOL??

I contacted Apple support and they did a online check of the phone and said that it wasn’t the battery, I toke it the store where I bought it and they told me to wait to see if Apple bring out an update to fix the problem, the phone haven’t got any better it still heats up with very little use, and I have reset it three times but no luck.

Folks, as the writer of one of the original posts, I think it is now well established that the iPhone 12 getting uncomfortably hot is a common problem. Question now is - what do we do? Returning the phone and downgrading is an option but that’s not ideal because you would have all bought the latest phone to be early adopters. I think we now collectively need to ask apple for a solution to this. This will require each of us to make enough noise for apple to hear. Any ideas how to go about this??

Yes, my iPhone 12 overheats whereby it is too hot to handle. I have to hold the sides of the phone. I noticed that it is much worse on my Game Applications.

In addition to overheating, my iPhone 12 freezes in the middle of applications. After Apple finished its Diagnosis on my phone today, I had to power off the phone to stop the application.

When I turn on or off my house alarm system, I have to turn off WiFi and use the cellular setting. Otherwise, my Application will not work. I have reset my network as well as the entire phone. Nothing works except disabling the WiFi.

When Apple technicians are on the phone, they take the information. However, they only wish you well.

Like I told the last Apple Technician, we have had a number of iPhones. None of them have ever been as bad as the 12!!! We have had or currently have iPads, Apple Mac Book Pros, an iMac, and an iMac Pro. If those devices had been as bad as this iPhone 12, we would have never bought another Apple anything!
