iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

The same thing happened to me with my new iPhone 12 Pro Max I was using the program hang out and only within 20 minutes it started getting super hot and then the phone with some safety device in it killed the communication and the phone stayed on a prompt saying the phone will not come on until it cools off so I put it in front of my AC vent in my car and let it cool off and the phone came back on... Is anyone else out there having the same issue

Not true. I have gone thru 7 iPhone 12's while only have 4 lines. Only 1 is heating up. The original problem was dropped calls with Verizon. After 5 weeks of swapping phones, I switched to T-Mobile. The dropped calls immediately stopped. Only problem now is overheating and occasional text message which drags its way through. The text message issue should be corrected in the next iOS update. Hopefully with 1 more phone on its way, the overheating problem will end. Be patient and Love Apple for trying.

It is covered but they will just give a new phone with the same issues.

I don’t have 5G available and never seen that symbol on my 12 pro. My background app refresh is turned off all the time. No location service. Dark mode on. No mail fetch. Still my phone is overheating. Had to restore my phone per apple service and the problem gone for 7 days and came back. Any solution Mr. Level 7. I don’t know about you but I love Apple Products but their service. They said they can’t do anything because their diagnostics shows no problem.

I have iPhone XS and it was perfectly fine until iOS13.7: FaceID working, long battery life, no overheating. The moment it got auto upgraded to iOS14 it overheats so much so that I often can't even hold it to my ear when taking a call. It also gets extremely hot when on the charger. I already disabled the majority of background activity but even if I charge in airplane mode it over heats. As a consequence the battery drains very fast now every 3-4 hrs I am down to <20%. The problem lies with iOS14. Is your Face ID still working?

I have the same issue. Only started yesterday, after about 3 weeks ownership. Today I needed to charge 3 times in 12 hours, and the phone is just sitting there, heating the top of my desk. I have had an update on pause for my Apple Watch for about the same time. This could be contributing, but I have yet to verify this hypothesis.

Hi. You seems to be very calm about phone getting to over hot and said it expected that will happen. So what about this...I use my iPhone 12 for Facebook Instagram mainly and I experienced this few times. It stops responding and block itself showing that phone is overheated. The phone feels very hot. I’ve made a photo of it and I hope you can see it. Thanks. Regards.

I just got an iPhone 12 Pro and started using it only about a week ago. Same problem! When I do anything with it, it almost instantly becomes so hot its painful to handle. And that’s even when running just one app at a time. The battery keeps draining like mad, nothing even close to the promised battery life.

A related oroblem is the drop on display brighness: when the device gets hot the brighness drops and its impossible to turn it any higher until I’ve managed to cool the device fown by either shutting it off for a whole or placing it somewhere cool and not using it dor a little while.

Also when it gets hot the torch is disabled.

i’m really disappointed and thia device feels useless if it keeps heating u and behaving like this.

And another thing: Really, no wall charger in the package?! Come on! Not everyone has USB-C wall charger adapters rolling around their floors, or a laptop with a USB-C port. I mean, who sells a device that you can’t plug in to charge?! During lockdown especially and with the delivery company having already sent the device package twice 200 km away from where it was supposed to be delivered, you just don’t get up like that and go to a store to buy the right kind of wall charger or order one online to be delivered (if it ever arrives), when you notice that Apple didn’t pack one with the device you just bought. Annoying and disappointing. Petty business, really. And also an irritating extra cost for someone who just cought up 1300 euros for this “amazing” device that seems to not work properly at all.

Shape up Apple, please.

CJM, the issues in the situations you describe sound very kuch like the ones I’m experiencing with my new iPhone 12 Pro. It has felt from the beginning that it’s just not right. Apart from heating up too much it keeps “coughing”, like behaving a bit weirly like freezing for a short while...

And yes I drove one hour north to a store that stocked chargers and haven’t been overcharging it. Like with you, my eevice keeps heating up also when nit charging and when just doing some very sinple task like writing a message. No multiple apps working sinultaneously, nothing to explai why it would be going on overdrive and heating up.

I will have to find out how to return this. I cannot accept a new device behaving like this one, in the first week of me using it!

Omg I had the same issue the exact day that arrived, I comtacted apple and made an appoinment to have an exchange since it was only 3-6 days old and they didn't want to exchange, I was so dissapointed because they didn't care that it was getting hot and I have a 1 year old that uses the phone, for safety I had to mailed back and wait for a refund, and I am not buying does defective iPhones.
