iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Yes man, right here with you. Phone is over heating in the car. From GPS and streaming a audio book over YouTube. Need to take the case off and hold out the window to cool down or put up against the AC vent and blast it. Then it will let me use my phone again. Also noticed the screen flashing at night when I’m watching a movie or YouTube. The screen will flash white faintly. It’s annoying and will probably trade this iPhone 12 Pro Max for the 13 right away. I still have my 11 pro max that’s a champ. I’m a 2 phone guy.

I’m fuming... the software update did not help!!! This device is still overheating like crazy! I’m currently trying to watch a news channel online, but after less than 30 minutes watching this device is so burning hot that I can’t hold it in my hands/palm. My fingers are burning up trying to write this, so I’ll keep it short: This iPhone 12 Pro device that I’ve purchased is faulty from the start and I will not risk my health or property by using a device that just might go up in flames. I demand a replacement (with hopefully a functional device) or a full refund. I will contact the seller and return this and will also dmenad an explanation from Apple Support again. The software update was supposed to fix yhe overheating problem. It did not. This just won’t do!

I started this “iPhone 12 pro max getting hot” thread. My only issue with the heating up is while charging with the new USB-C cable. I’ve noticed if I charge it with my prior phones plug and regular USB to lightning cable it does NOT get hot.

It never seems to get hot while using it(and I use it a LOT). I think it’s a great device. I jumped from a 6 Plus to the 12 Pro Max.

I live the size and the speed is great. But it should not get as hot as it does with the charger system meant for it.

Ya know?

What do you mean? Of course it’s too hot, if it’s so hot that it is painful to touch and/or hold, and if it shuts down apps and functions. Like shutting off the torch, forcefully auto-dimming the display and disabling the camera flash. When these happen, the device is useless. And these happen daily. The other night I could not fall askeep because the palm of my left hand was aching due to the heat that had transferred to my hand from the overheated device while I had held it during a call over Facetime. I had to end the call as I could not hold it anymore due to the heat and pain that it caused! And my hand still kept aching for quite a while afterwards.

My phone is set to max brightness and auto brightness turned off and out of nowhere the screen will dim and the back of the phone gets extremely warm. This happens when i’m just browsing Instagram or facebook. Only one app open and no charger plugged in. It’s been happening since I got the phone and no update has fixed it. Literally just happened to me before I posted this. Also I have my background app refresh turned off, so this is definitely some type of hardware issue i think.

It's normal for your phone to get warm when it's doing something like streaming video or FaceTime. Warm is expected as the battery is working much harder. If your phone is warm, it would NOT be cause for alarm. If your phone is too hot to touch, that is not normal. And if your phone is too hot to touch, it should display a message on the screen it needs to shut down to protect itself. If you're not getting such a message, the chances you are interpreting warm as overheating, which it most definitely is not.

Exactly! This just isn’t acceptable! It’s deceiving customers into buying an expensive, incomplete product that isn’t functioning properly. Apple shouldn’t have released it before proper qtesting and quality control. This is, as I say, unacceptable. I think everyone who is experiencing these same issues with the device - even after doing what Apple Support has advices would fix the issues (but didn’t fix them) - should demand to have it replaced or refunded and not give up. We as customers have been mislead and sold a defective product.

updated immediately to iOs 14.4 hoping that the problem would be fixed on my iphone 12 but i'm really disappointed since the problem still persists!! it doesn't have much overnight battery drain compared to ios 14.3 but the heating issue is still there!! used the facebook messenger app (just chatting) for 20 minutes and lost about ~10% lmao thought it would've been the perfect time to upgrade but i'm really disappointed with my iphone 12 right now!!

I am using my 12pro for almost two months. I am facing the heating issues as well. I have only a few applications opening. Sometimes i was only using for 15 minutes and the upper back will be too hot to touch. I will need to shut down the phone and wait for a few moments and turn it on again to solve the problem. But after a few more usage, the heating problem happens again. It's been bothering me for two months. I am now using the ios 14.4. Please help.

Same here- this is my second iphone 12 Pro- Gold in 10 days. Went to apple store, they saw issues and gave me dome refurbished phone. Still having issues, low battery life, overheating, scanner app does not work to scan menu... went to apple store today they cannot find issues- so solution was to erase my phone and start like i never had iphone before?!!! hello ... my 80 apps that i put in folders and setup are gonne? how would i remember what i downloaded 5 years ago... seems like apple problem, not mine...🙏 finally called t-mobile asking for label to return this crap version of iphone 12 pro, which sadly is dissapointing.... after so many years of trust in iphone product they cannot make it right.... so T-mobile will ship me new phone, hopefully the new one will work without issues🙏
