iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

I’m on my third day with the 12 Pro Max and outside of wireless charging using Apple’s MagSafe charger, noticed no excess heat... until today. It’s not on a charger, just playing streaming video over wifi and it’s definitely quite warm. I wouldn’t call this overheating but it’s definitely noticeable when I pick up the phone.

It seems the new A14 chip runs a bit warm when the phone is performing certain tasks. In my case, video streaming. What’s interesting is that I didn’t notice this until today. It may have happened when watching video yesterday but for some reason, I didn’t notice. The only real difference today is that I switched to 4G only so that I could test battery performance differences.

Just got the 12 Pro Max two days ago. I keep my phone in a dash mount when driving. I’ve noticed that the phone overheats within a minute and the screen automatically dims to try and reduce the heat. However, when I go to turn the brightness up, it says it’s already at the max brightness, but I know it’s not since the screen is so dim it’s barely visible.

Same here William. 3rd day on the 12 Pro Max and no abnormal heating whatsoever. I've been putting the phone through it's paces, streaming, watching videos (I'm not really a gamer), but the phone is stellar as I would expect. Also NO issues wirelessly charging and I just got a new charging stand for my office, which charges my iPhone vertically, my Apple Watch and has a charging plate for my Jabra Elite 85t headphones I just got which now charge in their case wirelessly. I'm a totally happy camper all around.

I just received the iPhone Pro Max 12 today and I am experiencing the exact same problem which also lead me to this thread... just setting up my phone, the phone is too hot to even hold! This is very concerning.. I’m upgrading from the iPhone 10 XS Max which always ran cool as a cucumber so something is definitely wrong here... please keep us updated on this.. hope it doesn’t catch on fire!! 🔥
