iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

I have had my iPhone 12 pro since Saturday. I noticed the overheating today, when it was in my pocket.....not being used and with all apps closed. Seems odd to spend so much money on something that is overheating so quickly. My other iPhones have never done this. And I noticed that it burned through the battery while doing so as well. I’m almost out of charge where when I arrived here 4 hours ago it was 3/4 full.

why do you buy new phones every year? do you have any idea how bad that is for the environment?

This poster owes you no reason for why they choose to get a new phone every year. They could be a champion of green causes and use solar power for their home, and recycle things responsibly for all you know. It's really none of your business why anyone chooses to buy anything anytime.

I am also having the same issue. Ever since the first day I got the iPhone 12 pro it always feels like it burning up. It does it when I’m also not even using it. I’ll have the phone in my pocket and I can feel the heat through my pants. It makes me very nervous. These phones are expensive and I don’t feel like I should be having this issue at all and especially right from the first day of having the new phone.

I have had the same issue of my new iPhone 12pro overheating. It happened today during a FaceTime with my mom. We were only about 10 mins into the face time and the back of my phone was very hot. I did have YouTube and safari browser running as I didn’t close them down before the FaceTime. I hope apple fixes this problem as it should not be heating up that quickly.

There IS WARM and there is HOT. Guess you realize the difference between the two. Also there is a normal temperature range (I dont know, I speculate under 40C) and abnormally hot. HOT is what most of us are experiencing I assume. The problem arises during various usage scenarios - charging, downloading content, gaming etc...

ALL OF THESE CASES CAUSE ABNORMAL TEMPS while just USING THE PRODUCT.

Hi there,

I am about to send my brand new iPhone 12 phone back to replace it with an 11 as not only does it overheat all the time, it makes a clicking noise. Also I have noticed that it struggles to play you tube videos and speed up, but super fast. It’s so disappointing as I’m coming from the 8 plus. Never a good move to buy the first batch! Good luck to anyone else having issues. Hopefully it will be resolved soon!

So besides all the other BS issues (heating, screen not responding, etc; we lost power for about an hour today and with all my other iPhones, it will go straight to 4/5G and although slow, the phone will work fine and I can still make calls. Immediately after this new 12pro lost all bars and I couldn’t place calls or anything anything else. I have Verizon 5G fios and I could not roam nor go onto 5 or 4G. I live in a remote area and I’m on top of a hill with nothing else around me. Dealt with no WiFi for 3 months with the Woosley fire and today was worse. Even with every fios underground line and power line being burned to the ground, I could still get slow access with my 10 and 11. For this reason alone, I’m returning this phone and going back to my 11pro. I’m past the 2 week return (bought the first weekend) so I’ll take the hit to buy the new phone but this is the worst apple product I’ve ever had. For emergency reasons alone, this phone is terrible.
