iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

Hello, I just bought an iPhone 12 today and I seem to be having the same issues. I began using the phone right away after it was set up, to download apps and make it more personalized as we all do, but I did experience it heating up right away, and extremely hot as well. This got me worried which led me to researching and it brought me here. Please let me know if you find a solution! That was too much money to spend on something that overheats in just a few minutes.

For the past two days my iPhone 12 Pro has been getting hot randomly. I searched this concern up and found this forum thankfully, and to know I’m not the only one. I feel the heat even more actually because I’m going caseless. Sucks that a brand new “pro-flagship” phone has overheating issues—and it’s not like the batteries grew from the previous gen, ironically, they reduced the mAh level. I could be a happier customer honestly.

Just received an iPhone 12 , everything working fine for the first day, noticed though that when I put to charge(using the new 20w USB-c apple charger) the iPhone 12 gets like unnecessarily hot, I would think it would be fine but I’ve never gotten my previous phone (iPhone 8) thus hit before. I would just like to know if this is happening to anyone else too or did I get a bad product?

Yes. Unfortunately, Apple missed the mark on the iPhone 12. I read the reviews before purchasing and decided to wait a year. First of all, multiple tech reviewers stated that the 5G requires a lot more power. Instead of increasing battery power and size, Apple downsized the battery, causing it to lose 10% from last year's model. The overheating is also an issue with the rear glass, which is prone to breaking (not sure if this is related to the temperature). Lastly, the magnet is very weak causing peripheral devices not to "latch on" and hold like they should. I think Apple will correct these issues with next year's model. I wanted the phone for the camera upgrades but I think I'll wait until the bugs are worked out. It's simply too much money to spend on a buggy phone with an inferior battery and an overheating problem. VERY SURPRISED that APPLE released this phone in this state but it's par for the course for 2020. Seems like a bad year for everyone.

Yes, I have been talking to Apple Support about my Iphone 12 Pro for the same thing. It gets really warm when it's charging, when I talk on it or browse. It does not hold a charge for very long either. I was told to have the battery checked but I really don't want to have problems with a new phone when you just purchased it. I have had it less than a week. I can't imagine what's going to happen as it gets older. I close all pages when I'm done and it still loses it charge. I'm frustrated already. Sigh!!

I’ve been having the same issue! I even get the temperature warning as if I’m on a hot beach and it says I need to wait for my phone to cool down before using. My battery has never charged so slowly or drained so quickly. I’m also experiencing storage full alerts when I wasn’t even close to filling my storage on my 11 so not sure if the photo files are just larger on the 12 or what. Definitely missing my 11 at this point.

This has been happening to me as well after setting it up. Glitching in the screen it’s like a blue border flashing. Then the phone is extremely hot after a few minutes of use. I never experienced this before. I assume another update is to be launched to correct whatever issue is causing this but IOS 14 was just launched. It’s so annoying because the phone is really hot to the touch. I wonder if it’s the processor.

It seems to me to be a battery issue. I’m having the same issue. I’ve had the phone since March and this started out of the blue beginning of the week. Within a minute of use it’s very hot. No changes have been made as far as different chargers, No new apps. Battery seems to drain quickly. I’m concerned it’s going to catch on fire. Maybe Apple will take this seriously and address this issue as a flaw on their end
