iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

I have experienced the same problem. I dont know if it is because the software is not perfect yet or if its a hardware problem. The main issue I have with the phones temperature rising is that the phones performance then lags extremely hard. I understand it is trying to slow down the internal processors from working too hard but like come on... this is a $1000+ phone and you would think it would be designed better for issues like this. I hope an iOS update comes out soon to address this matter. Or Apple needs to speak up and offer suggestions for us owners. BTW...This is an issue on or off the charger, not just when charging for anyone commenting. Any one have any other tips they came across?

Experiencing the same. I just got it last week and it gets pretty toasty just reading up on the news, and dismal charging or charging-life. The extra life is one reason why I traded up. I have the iPhone 12.

I do have the same issue on my Iphone 12, but I use only LTE, because in the place where I live the 5G is unreachable.

My phone is getting a little bit warm on the left side of the screen(on the right side of the camera) and it drains fast enough (round 15-20% per 8 hours of sleep) while doing nothing, just idling. I got only wifi ON and mobile data, bluetooth Off, background refresh off, I use dark theme.

I didn't restored my phone from any backup and set it as a new iphone, so that is not the problem of an icloud syncing for sure.

I have already reset network setting, did the HARD RESET, that doesn't really helped me.

I now got 15% of my battery and 7 hours of screen time, but I'm pretty sure I could get much better results if I didn't lose 13% that night....

The only thing in a pocket I can do is to factory reset the phone, but I'm sure it is not going to help me, because my iphone was set up as new, with no backups etc... And nothing could went wrong.

Yup, received 12pro yesterday. Turned off 5G, but even without it on, phone is hot to the touch when just playing music in headphones with display off. Battery drains faster than any phone in recent history. I am very disappointed. If you use the lidar, you get about 15 minutes per charge. I was thinking it was a defective phone, but I see by other comments that it to be a feature.

I received my iPhone 12 pro today. During set up and after it continues to run quite hot. Like the other person that is what brought me to this forum. I'm going from an iPhone 8 directly to an iPhone 12 pro. I am definitely saving mine hey as a back up since this is a very early run of this model.

“Just browsing on Instagram,” so continually downloading large photos and/or animated graphics and video, processing them and displaying them.

Why precisely wouldn’t this be a massive load on your phone’s CPU and GPU?

I’m not talking first person shooter game intensive, but it’s not like you’re reading web pages full of text, either.

Not all of us “just browse through Instagram” and as someone who does mostly get on “web pages full of text”, the same issue still applies.

Even if I was though, it still does not take away from the fact that it is happening routinely.

my understanding is that iOS 14 has some pretty hefty cataloging to do in order to fully implement the new search bars and siri. This work only happens when plugged in, and may be the cause of this overheating. Machine learning is very processor heavy.

So i have the 14.2 GM installed now. It seems to have fixed my hot phone and huge battery drain. I left it idle for hours after the update though (sleep). Right after installation the drain was still high but the battery drain is ok now.

Just received my iPhone 12 yesterday. I’m using it now just checking out social media and Google. It’s hot in my hand. Has a full charge. Not what I bargained for with a brand new phone. May send it back!

lollipop123098, there was one other reference to the 4.2 GM yesterday also indicating some resolution of the issue with the IOS 4.2 release. That post was apparently removed (maybe yours will be also soon). Anyway, thanks for letting us know. Maybe there is some light at the end of the (IOS) tunnel.

I have heatings problems too, but only for games.

I use same games that I used on iPhone 11 and there I had no problems, on the iPhone 12 i encounter slowdowns due to the overheating.

I installed few hours ago the iOS 14.2 GM and the problem is still here though is reduced than before.

For me is an iOS issue regarding the A14, in fact my friend’s iPad Air 4th have same overheating issues.

Further update, didn’t get warm at all on Friday, but got a bit warm this evening (time of this post) power it off, left it for about 5 mins powered back on and noticed that the display was not as bright, im now thinking could be something to do with the display settings maybe, i have mine on max brightness.

I noticed multitasking is a big issue... if you have YouTube playing on the background and if you have some labor intensive apps on screen... it would overheat and goes to the overheat mode like if you had left the phone under the sun in the summer
