iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

i filmed 4K 60p for about a 4 minutes in 3 seperate sessions and the phone could cook an egg. The hottest part is around volume up and vibrate/silent buttons. Compared to what I’ve encountered with the previous iPhones, 12 pro max by far creates the highest temperature. I can almost smell the plastic scent from the case. It might goes kaboom.. might have to visit a Genius Bar.

I am having the same issues and so it seems a lot of people do too. First, please read before you offer any help. It is not a charging issue. The phone is heating up while NOT charging. The only way to stop it is to reboot the phone. Force closing all apps does not work. When the phone restarts it will start cooling off even with same load of apps for several hours and will start heating up again. It seems to be somehow a software issue with some rogue process in IOS 14 but specific to iPhone 12. This is absolutely not normal and obviously I am not alone on this. I have the 12 pro max.

I'm curious if some of you who are having these issues transferred the sim card from your previous phone to your new phone or if you are using the new sim card which came with your phone.

I was advised to NOT transfer the sim from my iPhone 11 Pro Max to my 12 Pro Max and to use the new sim card from AT&T which was pre-installed in my phone. I've had absolutely NO heating issues on my phone whatsoever. No matter what I do, no abnormal heating.

Yes only 1 phone overheats. Out of 4 lines. 1 phone is on its 3rd which overheats with a replacement on its way. The other 3 lines are on there 2nd phone. Those were replaced for other reasons.

that’s a total of 9- iPhone 12”s with one overheating.

you have nothing to lose. I’d have it replaced now. If it overheats, replace it again. If there is indeed a major flaw in production, it won’t be looked in to until enough people request a replacement.

regardless if you have AppleCare or not, everyone with an iPhone 12, 12 pro, 12 pro max or 12 mini....You are under warranty.

please request a replacement Nobody wants to think the worst, but an overheating phone could lead to a fire.

BE SAFE AND USE CAUTION !

I had a replacement 3x and wall adapter replacement once. i bought MFI cable mophie cable and its better than the cable that comes from the box. It still warm when charging for less than 10mins but atlst its warm not hot. Keep checking your battery health if it goes less than 100% for couple of months of use, inform them immediately. do not use it will its hot, wait for it to cool down. I was actually thinking of refund and wait for the next batch but i have no choice, my old phone can’t handle the backup i have anymore.

Seem like Apple is not give a F regarding those 12 pro and Pro Max issues.

Even I can work for apple support. I know what steps are going to be carried out.

1) follow all the SOP steps mentioned, check App Store sign in, Date, time setting, restarts the phone

2) run the diagnostic

3) Do u receive temperature notification or not?

4) Go to local apple support

In the Local Apple Support, if the phone is within 14 days > exchange or get refund

if the phone is within warranted period > change the hardware 😒

That’s all

For me it seems 14.5 is a improvement but in a week time 12 pro max battery health went down 2 % 100 to 98% got phone in december so maybe thats normal and was inaccurate shown before?

I do use my phone for navigation everyday and its hooked to magnetic wireless car charger for roughly 8 hours a day. I do use optimized charging option but dunno if that helps if your on the move all the time?

only gets hot now with full sun on it and use dashcam feature of my navigation and no airflow aimed on my on my phone. But I forcing my fans to aim on my phone. Before 14.5 I had put it on coldest setting my car can blow with airco on to prevent my phone from overheating and now with 14.5 airco off and setting on between hot and cold air is enough now to keep the heat of the phone on acceptable level does not dim or over heat the phone even with full sun on it. So their is noticeable improvement for me.

so that’s my experience with 14.5 and outside my above story normal use does not getting it hot anymore but dunno about using camera a lot as I rarely film or facetime with my phone.

Hi guys,

i don't have an overheating issue anymore. This is the second time I have posted in this threads.

I turned of 5G and other unnecessary locations service under privacy that's all.

But still I have issues with a certain App that I can't open on my phone when I open the app the phone suddenly too hot and it impact to some of existing app functions.

Other than this issue my 12 pro is ok

Yes. The device (12 Pro) quickly overheats tonpainfully hot with minimal use and starts shutting down functions, dims the screen etc. . If you’re still within 14 days of purchasing it, best take it back to the seller. I wish I had done that and not listened to the advice that the software update will fix it. I’ve gone from iOS 14.2 to 14.5.1 but still have the same problems with the device.

I suggest you all contact Apple support line and describe your issue and log it as formal complaint. I know I did.

Yes it’s the phone generating too much heat and it has a very poor cooling design. I’ve owned 5 different iPhones models and they all have been used the same way - test this is the only model that suffers with normal heat/conditions.

it’s ridiculous.
