iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Yes. All of the above. Contact Apple support and ask for a replacement device. I have had it replaced now 4 times. Only the last time for overheating. There may be hardware issues although most of my issues were resolved by switching from Verizon to T- Mobile. My phone was dropping calls just about every call I made with Verizon. That came to an end with T-Mobile. It’s not that I’m ranting T-Mobile is the best, just that the dropped calls stopped. Verizon is having issues with the 5g which has also affected all iPhones newer than iPhone 8. I spoke with a Verizon engineer who verified this. I never has an issue with iPhone X with Verizon for 3 years. I switched to a 12 and all heck broke out. They explained all phones above iPhone have issues in certain area. This is something to do with them having something to do with 1x and the phones are not transferring signal properly from towers to tower. This happens even while you are at home using your phone. After 5 weeks with no solutions and my 12 being replaced 3 times I couldn’t take it any longer. I had to get off the 5g network which was my last resort. I ordered an iPhone 11 from Apple. The iPhone 11 was doing the same thing, Dropping calls. There was a 5 day period where everything was working normal. Then 14.2.1 update was released and the dropping calls and calls going straight to voicemail started worse than ever. Then the phone started overheating while charging.

Im wondering why the iPhone 12 is cheaper than what we paid for the iPhone X. The 12’s have been out for less than 8 weeks, and they are already giving them away for free from some carriers and the 12 pro max buy one get one free. This is unheard of so soon after release. The carriers know this and are trying to deplete there stock.

manufacturing of a Lemon is bound to happen with any company. Apple finally has made there Lemon. If there are enough complaints, Apple will have to recall the 12’s and give us a new device. There were no iPhone 9’s and being superstitious , I sure hope there is no iPhone 13. Let’s hope they go from 12 to 14.

Even my 12 pro is getting heat while charging?. Any solution?

Batteries naturally heat while being charged. And if you are using a fast charger, like a 20W or more, it will heat even more. Heating while being charged is not cause for concern.

A lot of what people are concerned about here are normal operations. For example heating when playing a game? Normal. Anytime you work a battery heat is generated. Or I just got my phone 8 hours ago and it is heating. Yes, of course it is heating, if they transferred data from a previous phone. It is indexing data, such as the thousands of photos they have and they're using the phone while the indexing is taking place.

What is not normal is seeing a warning on the screen suggesting the phone needs to cool or shutdown. In those situations, people should have their phones checked out by Apple.

If your phone is so hot you can't hold it, instead of posting here to other users, you should be scheduling an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for evaluation.

Some posters seem to think warm is too hot. I can't tell by some posts to what degree people's phones are heating.

If anyone is concerned their new phone is operating at temperatures which are too hot to hold their phone, take it to Apple.

So one thing im confused about is everyone having the issue and saying Apple is sending a new one. I was told by Apple support that they could send me a new one but they would put a hold on my cc’d for $1300 until they received the phone that is overheating and could confirm it was the phone. Is everyone else just getting a phone sent by apple or is what I was told correct for everyone?

You are confusing Express Replacement program with DIY, Express Replacement wants the $1,300 worth of iphone as a hold on your bank or card. Once you pay it they will ship you a phone overnight and you will use that same box to send your defective unit back.

That charge on your bank or credit card in my case is a big deal because it will hold in the account 4-5 days past the transaction and hindering anything I want to buy.

DIY is the same thing except they mail the replacement box first then apple will fix it THEN they will send it back to you.

Basically the latter one takes about 2 weeks because of COVID. This problem is mitigated FIY if you just go to an apple store, except they will fix it in house and ship it off since they have no replacements 9/10 because the iphone is so new.

They want the express and in some cases other people too, just know that going forward Apple expects the worth of the apple product like we all have 1,300$ Laying around every time something’s broke but ask them to do a DIY repair where you ship out your phone and return it back to apple for repair if you can wait that long without your iphone to be honest.

Does anyone know how I can unsubscribe from this cause I’m getting too many emails. I went to Subscriptions>iPhone 12 Pro heating up>+ sign, and I clicked following. I clicked the plus sign again, and it showed me follow, so I presumed I was no longer going to receive emails. I get another email. I try it multiple times and refresh the page, but it’s “no good”.

According to Battery test on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the iPhone lasted over 26 hours while running through an extensive test in a variety of calls, browsing apps and sites, gaming, and editing. On an even more global scale, there isn’t much issue with the battery life or the device heating up. I have not experienced any problems. The reason why over 3k people are complaining about it is because almost all either got unlucky, or mostly the didn’t replace the SIM card for the 5G capable device. If a SIM Card is inserted into the phone , it needs to have been made for 5G, whether or not the device is running 5G and whether or not the 5G function is turned. The device is made for 5G and LTE when 5G is not necessary. The reason it is able to run LTE is a backwards function, but there is no forward function. You can’t make an LTE device run 5G, same with the SIM card.

Well just ran several graphic intensive tests on my iPhone 12 Pro Max played COD mobile on Max settings recorded 2 mints of 4K 60FPS had a case on(so the heat does not dissipate) made some calls, did some browsing downloaded 2 videos from YouTube all while on a 20 W fast charger with a 100% Brightness in Wi-Fi with Bluetooth turned on.(Background app refresh was turned on )

The Results:No overheating

The phone was a LITTLE warm but not abnormally hot and cooled down 10-20 seconds later.I was a little surprised after seeing this forum as I never experienced overheating even with the most intensive usage.

I am having the same issue it’s very hot to the touch. Which makes me wonder if I should keep my iPhone X and send iPhone 12pro back. if it already has issues. Makes me wonder if it will have more to come. But some have replied with these other reasons; but unless they

are experiencing this issue and have actually been able to come up with a why and how to fix. Don’t waste our time with your personal opinions. Only

if you have found a solution..

it’s not a charging or plug in/ wrong charger issue. This phone should not be getting this hot and just for setting up this iPhone.

I have the same issue, however the network provider I am using does not utilise the 5G network yet. My phone is hot to touch at the back near the top of the phone and I cannot use the Flashlight. The phone tells me that it is too hot to use and needs to cool down. This from me just browsing and accessing mails?? This doesn't bode well for a €1500 phone !!! (iPhone 12 Pro Max)
