iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

I love it when someone who recently joined the forum with 4 points, tells someone who has been on the forum for over a decade and knows the forum managers personally, what Apple does or doesn't do here.

You are wrong. The people you hope are reading your posts are NOT here. If you want to tell Apple your thoughts where it will be heard you should do one or more of the following:

  1. Provide feedback via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Call Apple
  3. Use the Contact Support button at the top of this page
  4. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show them the issue you're having

Otherwise, it is you who is wrong about Apple paying attention here.

It has nothing to do with older or newer chargers but (at least in my case) with most likely software issues. With my iPhone i bought a new charger dock for apple watch, airpod and iPhone. The others work all the time but my 12 pro some times. When it doesn’t work an reboot always fixes it and it can be seen when looking at the battery icon at top right of the screen. That is after picking it up still shows the charging icon. After reboot this is the normal icon again and it will work again. The zens wireless charging dock is bought the same day as the phone and is powerfull enough. I bought it as my primary charger so i’m really bummed about it. Apple should fix it in an update in my opinion.

I went through remote support (including diagnostics) this week. With my brand new 12 Pro Max not charging on one of two IDENTICAL Belkin Qi Pads (Actually special editions for the apple store!!). ; apparently I’m hallucinating or pad is selectively malfunctioning but only when I put the new phone on it. “:I was free to exercise my 14 day return” was the only remedy provided. I mentioned this community chat with over 1200 “me too” flags but no dice. So yeah you’re all suffering from a fever dream. Apple don’t make mistakes.

I had this from the beginning, reboot fixes it temporarily, had belkin wireless chargers that work great with iphone x/iphone 11pro.

Then I shelled out for the magsafe, perhaps thinking the coils might still be smaller, but yesterday, when the battery died, magsafe wasn't able to charge at all ... this is becoming a bigger problem. I hope this is not hardware related.

So first tier support escalated the call to an Engineer (who did remote diagnostics) but they essentially blamed the charger? If you reset the phone, would that fix the problem for a while? That's how I was able to convince them that it was the phone, not the charger. Also I have an Apple MagSafe charger. I guess if you're case someone made a different decisions.

I understand that Apple's 14-day return policy allowed you to get a new phone. Did that solve your issue? New iPhone is charging wirelessly, no problem? You still seem upset.

I have a charging stand that works fine with iPhone 8, XS and 11. It does not work with the new iPhone 12 Pro that I picked up earlier today.

Interestingly, the iPhone 12 Pro did work with a charging pad from the same vendor. This makes me suspect something in the positioning of the coils in the iPhone 12 Pro as compared with the other phones.

Hmm. I wonder if we were having the same issues but for different reasons. In my case it’s definitely not the charger that’s faulty. I have two MagSafe chargers and one Belkin wireless charger, and when the problem occurs, none of them work until I reboot the iPhone.

Also, the fact that whenever this happens my battery levels won’t go down leads me to think it’s a software issue on the iPhone. We might be dealing with two separate problems that both cause the iPhone 12 to not charge wirelessly.

i am having the same issue with wireless charging. i have the iphone 12; this was as upgrade from my 10. i’ve used wireless charging for awhile now. my 12 worked on all 3 of my wireless chargers until last night. so what have y’all done to resolve your individual issues? i’m guessing an ios update with remedy? but when??

hahahahahaha please help!!

meant to reply here but somehow made a fresh post ....

This may not be the solution for every issue but I was experiencing the much reported wireless charging issue with it only last a few brief seconds occurring on 3 different chargers. I was using a magnetic wallet case and a magnetic detachable cable. I removed these and all 3 chargers are now working as expected. A complete guess but were the magnetic fields of these disrupting the phones magnetic system? Anyway that worked for me hope it does for you.

The reality is there isn't a Wireless charging problem with iPhone 12. There IS an issue with where the charger is in the new phones relative to some older wireless chargers and I keep seeing some here using Magsafe cases, but on traditional wireless chargers or like you discovered with cases which have some kind of either metal or magnet in the case, which will not play well with wireless chargers on iPhone 12.

As I've said a few times, we bought new more modern Wireless chargers, with 18W QC3.0 charging bricks and dual plates in the charger and we've had absolutely no issues charging wirelessly since.

I am having very similar issues as my 12 Pro randomly stops charging wirelessly until I reboot. I have 2 chargers that work fine with various other devices. Qi certified chargers but not apple manufactured. Called support to open a ticket. Basically told me I have to go to either go to Mac Genius bar (2 hour trip one way to the nearest one) or buy an official Apple wireless charger or they can't/won't help me. Pretty poor response for an expensive phone less than a month old.

As I previously posted, I am having the same problem wirelessly charging my 12 pro, but here’s the kicker. I have a 2018 Cadillac xt5 with a factory installed charging mat. This mat only works with the iPhone 8 series. My previous iPhone XS would not charge on this mat, but my 12 pro does. Go figure. Way to go Apple
