iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

I love it when someone who recently joined the forum with 4 points, tells someone who has been on the forum for over a decade and knows the forum managers personally, what Apple does or doesn't do here.

You are wrong. The people you hope are reading your posts are NOT here. If you want to tell Apple your thoughts where it will be heard you should do one or more of the following:

  1. Provide feedback via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Call Apple
  3. Use the Contact Support button at the top of this page
  4. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show them the issue you're having

Otherwise, it is you who is wrong about Apple paying attention here.

Do you have cases on the iPhones? If so, what brand? I was using an Otter Box case and my 12 Pro would not charge wirelessly while a XS has no problem. I changed the 12 Pro to a thinner case and it charges now. I think it's the biggest factor and not too many people mention what they are using in this thread. It still comes down to Apple's design change.

I have iphone 12 pro max and otterbox defender case. The only charger which has no problem charging it is a choetech dual fast wirless charger, 5 coils Qi certified avaliable for $28 on Amazon. As someone else mentioned none of the old chargers like samsung wireless 2018 model work on this phone/case combination.

Speck and Shieldon. I’ve tried charging with and without cases while standing up and laying flat using a Mophie and ihome charger 7.5 watt. While the 15 watt is what is recommended for the 12s the phones should still be getting a change and at the very least see the chargers. Has anyone used the new case and wireless charger from Apple? I’m not game spend an extra $60-150 testing to see if the phone works with Apple products only or if it’s a major flaw in the phones.

Apple’s been pretty quiet on this wireless charging issue. Maybe they can’t figure it out. Looks like Samsung next time

Apple has released thus far two iOS updates which address this issue. That's not exactly being quiet on a subject. If you are expecting Apple to publicly acknowledge any issue, they just don't do that.

As to your issue, what have you done to try to solve it? I got new chargers with dual plates and a higher output QC3.0 brick and haven't had a single issue since. Perhaps your charger is single plate and doesn't output enough power?

And as to whether Samsung or for that matter any other phone is to be your next phone, you should always buy the device which best meets your needs. As this is a user to user only forum and Apple isn't here, what phone you choose to buy however, matters not at all to us.

You are wrong, as I bought a device that states, it is QI compatible charging. Which means it will work without defect. Nowhere does it say I must buy an Apple MagSafe charger to work wirelessly. Show me where Apple states we need to buy a dual plate charger to charge. And him expressing his frustration it perfectly legit. You don’t go buy a new car then find out the engine was used and be cool about it. You are paying a premium price for a product that states it supports it.

Hi LobsterGhost

I have been using Apply phones since 2097, and also worked in the Valley. You are correct about Apple they don’t monitor directly, but wrong about the design engineers who I know a few, and they use this feed for product improvements.  Everyone keep posting this issue, they will as always fix problems.

At least the phone does not incinerate like a previous Samsung phone did.

Another discovery I made, the old high current iPad charge won’t charge a iPhone 12 Pro from the plug. As soon as I charged to new high current, it worked. It’s a great phone, just be patient.

Yes when you violate the terms of use, your posts either gets edited or deleted. And yes, the person who did that works for Apple. But not who you think they are. They are called Forum Hosts. Their only job is to moderate the forum for violation of terms of use. They don't pass any comments here to Apple Engineering or have anything to do with what works or doesn't work for users.

So again, your posts here don't go to the parts of Apple you might hope they do.

It's rather rude to suggest I don't have good branding common sense, to be honest. I understand you think you know this forum. I know you don't. But you can believe whatever you want. I'm telling you there's one sure way to let Apple know your thoughts and that's with the Feedback Link I provided. Use it or don't. Doesn't matter to me either way.

I don't have any issues charging either our iPhone 12 or 12 Pro Max with Qi Wireless chargers. None.

LOL.....Another I am wrong comment. I don't, nor do I have any interest in MagSafe Charging. I do have interest in Qi Wireless Charging and I am having no issues using 3rd party Qi Wireless Charging.

Now, I was having issues. But I did my research and realized the issue is with the location of the Qi Charging coil in the new iPhone 12 phones. It's smack dab in the middle of the phone now. If a Qi charger has only one charging coil in it, unless that coil aligns perfectly with the plate in the phone, a connection isn't made and is one of the reasons so many are having issues with chargers which worked just fine on previous model iPhones. Another issue many people don't use higher wattage QC3.0 charging bricks.

So all that was required for me was to buy newer Chargers with dual coils and higher watt QC3.0 brick. Problem solved and for the last at least 3 weeks both phones have charged 100% fine night after night.

Before you tell someone they are wrong, you should know some people may actually know what they are talking about.
