iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

Bring it back and exchange it - there are many people who claim this is a software problem, but the question is why isn't all iPhone 12 Pro phones having this issue? They've sold many of these phones and you'd think there would be thousands of complaints by now online.

I did two hard resets and nothing improved. It never charged wirelessly for me. I put it on a Qi compliant Mophie puck and another Qi charger and the same thing happens. It charges for a second and then stops.

I contacted Apple support and they said to bring it back and that it was not a software bug. Not that I expect Apple to admit it but if it is not a software bug then you'll be very sorry that you did not exchange it within the warranty period. Make sure you at the very least document this with Apple Support before your exchange period expires.

Do you have cases on the iPhones? If so, what brand? I was using an Otter Box case and my 12 Pro would not charge wirelessly while a XS has no problem. I changed the 12 Pro to a thinner case and it charges now. I think it's the biggest factor and not too many people mention what they are using in this thread. It still comes down to Apple's design change.

What models, and are they listed as compatible with the iPhone 12?

I had a Belkin sold at the Apple Store, but Belkin stated it was not compatible with the 12 family, only the iPhone 11 family and before.

Note it would usually work, but not always and was finicky about it, and that’s why they rated it “not compatible.”

The fact that it works for some or “sometimes” does not mean it’s compatible; Belkin is releasing a new, visually identical model that is compatible with the iPhone 12 family.

You say that and yet I haven't plugged my device in to charge in my home in months - all of the chargers I use outside of my car are either vanilla Qi or MagSafe and my phone charges fully all the time without drama now that I know which chargers work and which will not by direct admission of their vendor (Belkin, in my case, which lists both of the chargers that do not work as compatible with only models through the iPhone 11 family but will be coming out with new chargers that are iPhone 12 compatible.)

As mentioned before, I have a Mophie Qi puck I bought to use with my iPhone X that charges my iPhone 12 Pro Max with no issues whatsoever.

Don't wait for Apple to fix this. Exchange it. Verizon Wireless said it was defective and they had to order a replacement for my 12 Pro in the new blue color which is backordered. I'll still use this one until it comes in.

With Christmas approaching, delayed shipping and a current backorder on the phones I strongly suggest you start the exchange process with your carrier or the Apple Store as soon as you can. You never know what the disruptions in supply chains will do.

At the very least, open a support ticket with Apple so it is documented.

I just tried something and have had success with it three times. As others have reported, wireless charging didn't work until after a restart of the phone. So I tried closing all apps and NOT restarting, and the charging works again. I haven't narrowed it down to a particular app, but when all apps are closed, for me, on my 256GB iPhone 12 Pro, recharging resumes as expected. Would love to know if this works for others, as it would imply a software issue instead of a hardware issue. Fingers crossed.

This is not just a problem with charging position. My wife's 12 Mini running iOS 14.2.1 would not charge on a brand new Belkin Wireless Charger 15W (WIA002) with the included 24W power supply or with another 24W QC 3.0 power supply I had on hand. Centered on the pad it would start charging and after a minute or two, just stop.

Based on a forum tip, I tried an old Apple 5W power supply with the Belkin pad and sure enough it charges the phone just fine! I read somewhere else that when used with a MagSafe charger, the iPhone 12 would stop charging if it got too hot and the battery was more than 80% charged. So it seems to me that this charging issue may be heat related since it seems to happen when charging at 7.5W (or higher) and after a variable amount of time.

Hello everyone,

I spoke with several Apple advisers before one of them told me that they have a list of compatible chargers so I am sharing that link.

https://www.wirelesspowerconsortium.com/products

I purchased a Geekera 3 referenced throughout. I have an older model that would not charge but the updated model works for me. I noticed a couple things. This particular model charges the 12 at 7.5W and specifically says not for iPhone 12 mini. It works on my mini but it has to be oddly askew of center to work.

So my conclusion and recommendation is find a charger on the list above and buy a newer model that states it will work with your model of the 12 phone. Some on the list will charge at 15W.

Good luck all and thanks for all the suggestions!

Your charger is dual charging plate?

Your charger uses a QC3.0 charging brick?

We had wireless charging issues on iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max. Bought these chargers and have had absolutely NO issues since. Both feature dual plates and higher watt QC3.0

See these two for reference:
