iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

I love it when someone who recently joined the forum with 4 points, tells someone who has been on the forum for over a decade and knows the forum managers personally, what Apple does or doesn't do here.

You are wrong. The people you hope are reading your posts are NOT here. If you want to tell Apple your thoughts where it will be heard you should do one or more of the following:

  1. Provide feedback via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Call Apple
  3. Use the Contact Support button at the top of this page
  4. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show them the issue you're having

Otherwise, it is you who is wrong about Apple paying attention here.

We purchased the 12 pro and the 12 pro max in Jan 2021. No problem with the 12 pro max. About twice a week the 12 pro has to be rebooted before charging. I haven't determined if it reaches a certain battery charge level before it fails to charge. We own a Belkin wireless charger. So I know it is not the charger. It is very in convenient. Please fix.

There is nothing wrong with your phone. All you need to do is disable the Optimised Battery Charging in your Battery settings. This function stops charging your phone when it reaches 80% and aims to finish it just when you need to use it. It’s meant to preserve battery life. All you have to do is go to Settings, Battery, then Battery Health. In there, you can disable Optimised Battery Charging. It means your phone will now charge like normal.

You’re welcome. ;)

I am using an AT&T wireless charging unit and after I set the settings " Face ID & Passcode/USB " it continues to work but, I have to fiddle around with setting the iphone 12 Pro Max on the charging units several times until I see the blue light. I believe there are issues with the thickness of the phone protection distance to the surface of the charging unit. Perhaps in the iphone/ATT labs, they put a naked iphone directly onto the charging unit, not compensating for the Otterbox or other phone cases out there. Perfect engineering concepts gone wrong in practice!

I had a unproductive conversation with Apple today. Apple said because I’m using a wireless charger that is not made by Apple they can not help me in any way. They can not and will not do anything to help me until I spend more money on buying an Apple charger specifically. No where in Apple directions on how to use Apple products does it say you have to use an Apple charger in order to charge your phone. I keep telling Apple this is not a isolated issue. Check the website thousands of other Apple 12 customers are experiencing the same thing. But as they stated at the beginning because I’m not using an Apple charge specifically there is nothing they will do for me. Mind you my iPhone 8 Plus charges perfectly fine on my non Apple wireless charger. Obviously it’s something with the hardware of the 12 that is making this an issue.

As I said in previous post, it’s a phone problem, it’s not Qi compatible it’s only msg safe compatible.
so you know it’s a huge step backward. I believe with update they sober a few issues, as it started working for me, without any changes at all or buying new hardware. Hope you can figure it out.

Nope. They are Qi Wireless compatible. We have both iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max, both of which charge reliably night after night on newer (not Apple either) Qi Wireless Charging stands.

Yes, I said it’s a phone issue not the charger that the issue. I’m telling you what Apple said because I’m using a third party charger not an Apple charge they will not and can not do anything to help me with my 12 unless I specifically buy an Apple brand charger. My iPhone 8 Plus charges with no issues. It is not the charger. It is 100% something wrong with the iPhone 12. I should not have to power down my phone just to make it connect to the charger.
