iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

Bring it back and exchange it - there are many people who claim this is a software problem, but the question is why isn't all iPhone 12 Pro phones having this issue? They've sold many of these phones and you'd think there would be thousands of complaints by now online.

I did two hard resets and nothing improved. It never charged wirelessly for me. I put it on a Qi compliant Mophie puck and another Qi charger and the same thing happens. It charges for a second and then stops.

I contacted Apple support and they said to bring it back and that it was not a software bug. Not that I expect Apple to admit it but if it is not a software bug then you'll be very sorry that you did not exchange it within the warranty period. Make sure you at the very least document this with Apple Support before your exchange period expires.

I have a temporary solution that at least works for me and hopefully some others. I have the Anker Qi Stand and an iPhone 12 Mini. It won't charge if I just place it on the stand. But if I position it about an inch up the slope of the stand and hold it there for a few seconds, charging will start. Then I can slide it down to the normal resting position and it keeps charging.

That's a bit annoying, so for now I just put a 1" piece of wood at the bottom of the slope, to keep the iPhone positioned a bit higher in what seems to be the prime charging spot.

I’m having the same issue on my iPhone 12 Pro; no charging indicator unless I reboot the phone. BUT, I think the phone might actually be charging; it’s just not reporting it.

My iPhone said I was at 72% battery 3 hours ago. And for the last 3 hours, I’ve had my phone on a MagSafe mount using Maps/Uber. I don’t get a charging indicator when I attach the MagSafe, but my phone is still at 72%.

I got curious and checked the Battery settings, and discovered a perfect horizontal line for the last 18 hours. The battery hasn’t changed by a single percent since 5am, even though I’ve been using it on and off the charger.

TL;DR - It seems the problem isn’t that MagSafe won’t charge, but that the iPhone doesn’t realize it’s charging.

It’s definitely not a hardware issue on the iPhone, nor an issue with the wireless charger.

Next time the issue arises, don’t reboot the phone. Instead, look at the battery percent, use the phone for a while, and see if it doesn’t go down. If it’s like mine, the battery percent will remain the same regardless of whether you’re wirelessly charging or not.

I for one have contacted Apple who suggested I get phone replaced in store. Problem is the stores don’t have any as they are on back order. All phones were to fulfil orders.

Even people who had phones replaced in the first few days say the Qi charging still isn’t working.

How do we properly escalate this with Apple if talking to Apple support isn’t raising it up to them?

Same problem here, brand new 12PRO simply doesnt charge on both mophie mat charger. As suggested rebooting helps just for a little while then it goes on and off. An italian site address this matter to the new release of IOs but also to some hardware component. It is also true Apple officially said mag safe charge are optimized to better charge your phone ....

Anyhow the solution that get the phone charging process lasting longer is to place the phone on tha mat when the display is on.

If paused or on block mode it will simply not charge at all.

let's hope in patch that will fix the issue at the soonest.

Ciao

Knock on wood, but ever since I did the volume up, down, then power off- it seems to work with my wireless charger. I keep wondering if the new 12’s need a 15watt charger??? Some of these older wireless chargers are only 10 at the most. The charger I have is a 10watt, and it takes all night to charge it, but it does get the job done. And I do have a thicker Otter box case.

I’m having the same problems, I have charging pads that worked great with my 11Pro Max, that now work sporadically with my new 12 Pro Max. I woke up this morning to a half charged phone this morning. I now will plug the cord in every night until this is resolved. I need my phone fully charged in the morning for work. Thank goodness I had a battery charger with me today.

I was very disappointed that none of my FOUR Qi chargers worked, representing three different companies. However, all is not lost, I tried this method and now they all work. Your chargers are fine, even the phone is OK, but since so many of us seem to have this problem, there’s definitely a glitch somewhere.

Do this exact method...don’t do the “normal” power on/off of the phone.

  1. Press and quickly release volume up button
  2. Then press and quickly release volume down button
  3. Then press and KEEP HOLDING side power button (keep holding past the swipe to shut down) until you see the Apple Logo, then let go.

Again, this worked for me and everything’s fine now.

Good luck, everyone. This was frustrating, but it’s all good now, especially since my magsafe charger hasn’t even shipped yet, so I was stuck with lightening cables. Still waiting on USBC, but that’s a whole different conversation.
