iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

Bring it back and exchange it - there are many people who claim this is a software problem, but the question is why isn't all iPhone 12 Pro phones having this issue? They've sold many of these phones and you'd think there would be thousands of complaints by now online.

I did two hard resets and nothing improved. It never charged wirelessly for me. I put it on a Qi compliant Mophie puck and another Qi charger and the same thing happens. It charges for a second and then stops.

I contacted Apple support and they said to bring it back and that it was not a software bug. Not that I expect Apple to admit it but if it is not a software bug then you'll be very sorry that you did not exchange it within the warranty period. Make sure you at the very least document this with Apple Support before your exchange period expires.

It has nothing to do with older or newer chargers but (at least in my case) with most likely software issues. With my iPhone i bought a new charger dock for apple watch, airpod and iPhone. The others work all the time but my 12 pro some times. When it doesn’t work an reboot always fixes it and it can be seen when looking at the battery icon at top right of the screen. That is after picking it up still shows the charging icon. After reboot this is the normal icon again and it will work again. The zens wireless charging dock is bought the same day as the phone and is powerfull enough. I bought it as my primary charger so i’m really bummed about it. Apple should fix it in an update in my opinion.

>I have the same problem. Who do we report this to so they can either fix it or give us new phones? Anyone know?

I contacted Apple about this over a week ago. In my case, sometimes my phone stops charging wirelessly, but it starts working again if I restart the device.

I had to wait on the phone for a long time while they transferred me to an engineer. Apple is aware of this issue and they are troubleshooting it. Giving you a new phone my not help, if the next phone you get has the same problem. Apple ran some diagnostics on my phone, and later, when my phone stopped working again, I was able to call them up, reference my open case, and they ran diagnostics again. The iPhone is one of the most advanced, and complex, consumer products in the world. Sometime things don't work as designed. Hopefully they'll work this out soon, but fortunately, we can still charge our phones will cables, so only a minor inconvenience; not a very serious flaw.

I went through remote support (including diagnostics) this week. With my brand new 12 Pro Max not charging on one of two IDENTICAL Belkin Qi Pads (Actually special editions for the apple store!!). ; apparently I’m hallucinating or pad is selectively malfunctioning but only when I put the new phone on it. “:I was free to exercise my 14 day return” was the only remedy provided. I mentioned this community chat with over 1200 “me too” flags but no dice. So yeah you’re all suffering from a fever dream. Apple don’t make mistakes.

So first tier support escalated the call to an Engineer (who did remote diagnostics) but they essentially blamed the charger? If you reset the phone, would that fix the problem for a while? That's how I was able to convince them that it was the phone, not the charger. Also I have an Apple MagSafe charger. I guess if you're case someone made a different decisions.

I understand that Apple's 14-day return policy allowed you to get a new phone. Did that solve your issue? New iPhone is charging wirelessly, no problem? You still seem upset.

Hmm. I wonder if we were having the same issues but for different reasons. In my case it’s definitely not the charger that’s faulty. I have two MagSafe chargers and one Belkin wireless charger, and when the problem occurs, none of them work until I reboot the iPhone.

Also, the fact that whenever this happens my battery levels won’t go down leads me to think it’s a software issue on the iPhone. We might be dealing with two separate problems that both cause the iPhone 12 to not charge wirelessly.

meant to reply here but somehow made a fresh post ....

This may not be the solution for every issue but I was experiencing the much reported wireless charging issue with it only last a few brief seconds occurring on 3 different chargers. I was using a magnetic wallet case and a magnetic detachable cable. I removed these and all 3 chargers are now working as expected. A complete guess but were the magnetic fields of these disrupting the phones magnetic system? Anyway that worked for me hope it does for you.

I am having very similar issues as my 12 Pro randomly stops charging wirelessly until I reboot. I have 2 chargers that work fine with various other devices. Qi certified chargers but not apple manufactured. Called support to open a ticket. Basically told me I have to go to either go to Mac Genius bar (2 hour trip one way to the nearest one) or buy an official Apple wireless charger or they can't/won't help me. Pretty poor response for an expensive phone less than a month old.
