iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

Bring it back and exchange it - there are many people who claim this is a software problem, but the question is why isn't all iPhone 12 Pro phones having this issue? They've sold many of these phones and you'd think there would be thousands of complaints by now online.

I did two hard resets and nothing improved. It never charged wirelessly for me. I put it on a Qi compliant Mophie puck and another Qi charger and the same thing happens. It charges for a second and then stops.

I contacted Apple support and they said to bring it back and that it was not a software bug. Not that I expect Apple to admit it but if it is not a software bug then you'll be very sorry that you did not exchange it within the warranty period. Make sure you at the very least document this with Apple Support before your exchange period expires.

I bought the Torras case for my iPhone 12 Pro Max when I bought the phone. I had issues with my old charger, but have been problem free using a wireless charging stand made by Geekera. This charger has been referenced a few times above. It works great with this triple charger.

Heres the charger:

After any iOS update, it's advisable to Force Restart your phone:

  • Press and quickly release volume up button
  • Then press and quickly release volume down button
  • Then press and keep holding the side power button (keep holding past the swipe to power off) until you see the Apple Logo, then let go

Normal wireless charging should be restored when you sign back in to your phone.

For those of you who are willing to try this, I suggest you do a DFU restore. This will install the latest version of the Baseband, and a completely fresh copy of iOS on the phone. A DFU restore has cured issues for some people who were having dropped calls with iPhone 12's. Maybe it would cure this charging issue too. No harm in trying.

Agreed, but I have yet to see many specific case & charger combinations that resolve this issue (until Apple resolves it with iOS). I have posted what is working for me ( CHOETECH Wireless Charger 10W with TORRAS Shockproof iPhone 12 Case, but I am not happy with the case. The Otterbox defender for iPhone 12 is what I prefer, but does not seem compatible with any wireless charger with iPhone 12 Pro. I don't see many posts specifying what case they use when it works or not, so it's not much help until they do.

Sadly, car makers along with stand makers made assumptions as to where the Qi coil would be and this is the result.

You can try turning the phone 180° and see if it charges then, otherwise it just won’t.

Thats similar to the answer with some stands; they will charge in landscape mode but will no longer work in portrait mode due to Qi coil alignment issues with iPhone 12 family phones.

I have the same issue with my Mercedes GLA - my dealer tested the in-car charger with a couple of android phones and it worked as expected. He also tried it with an iPhone 12 Pro and Max, and a couple of older models of iPhone and none of them charged.

I spoke to Apple over the phone and they said it’s likely to be a software issue, they are looking into it but couldn’t give any indication as to if and when it will be fixed. My iPhone 12 Pro Max charges fine on my Belkin wireless charging pad at home. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’ve spoken with Apple Support concerning this issue. They’ve documented and sent it the issue along with my phone diagnostics records to the developers at Apple. I’ll get a call back in a couple days to discuss the issue and what actions will be taken to remedy it. If you haven’t done so already and your having issues charging your iPhone 12 or 12 Pro you need to contact Apple support and start a support case.
