iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

I love it when someone who recently joined the forum with 4 points, tells someone who has been on the forum for over a decade and knows the forum managers personally, what Apple does or doesn't do here.

You are wrong. The people you hope are reading your posts are NOT here. If you want to tell Apple your thoughts where it will be heard you should do one or more of the following:

  1. Provide feedback via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Call Apple
  3. Use the Contact Support button at the top of this page
  4. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show them the issue you're having

Otherwise, it is you who is wrong about Apple paying attention here.

That’s what I was told too. I cannot be without a phone I need it for work. They arranged a visit to Apole store to swap over for a new one.

The store had no iPhone 12 Pro in stock for sale other than orders for collection.

The rep tried my phone on his Qi charger on it worked, his phone also didn’t charge on my charger so he decided it is not a phone fault. No exchange.

I’ve had the same issue with my new iPhone 12 Pro. My old iPhone XR worked fine on the wireless charging mat, while the new one didn’t.

After I found this thread, I reset the Network Settings. Following that, the phone recognised being put on the wireless charger, no need for restarts or anything. But it took very careful positioning for it to start charging. And after a few % of charge, it always stopped.

I contacted Apple Support UK. After a lengthy conversation they suggested to factory reset my new phone. No replacements or anything. I didn’t follow their advice.

After I upgraded to iOS 14.2, the problem seems to be solved. It’s easier to position the phone on the mat for it to start charging, and when I pick it up in the morning it actually has a full charge.

I just tried something and have had success with it three times. As others have reported, wireless charging didn't work until after a restart of the phone. So I tried closing all apps and NOT restarting, and the charging works again. I haven't narrowed it down to a particular app, but when all apps are closed, for me, on my 256GB iPhone 12 Pro, recharging resumes as expected. Would love to know if this works for others, as it would imply a software issue instead of a hardware issue. Fingers crossed.

Experiencing the wireless charge issue. Purchased 2 iPhone 12 Pro units. 1 Blue and 1 Black. Both 128gb. They arrived with iOS 14.1 installed and both charged without issue. Upgraded to iOS 14.2 and now the unit in Blue will not charge via wireless. Black unit is charging, on the same wireless chargers, without issue. Don’t know if the iOS upgrade had anything to do with the problem. Based upon the number of replies to this issue it looks like Apple needs to communicate a response.

I *almost* posted that it seemed like things were OK after the iOS 14.2 update, but NOPE.

I didn't have the charge issue for 3 days before I ran the update, and several days after, but as of this morning the charge issue reared it's head and my 12 Pro is not charging when placed on either of my Qi wirelesss chargers.

Rebooting it now to get charing back but... come on... APPLE PLS.

Same here, it works 50% of the times and after a failed time the battery icon stays green with the lightning icon through it after pickup from the wireless charger. Then i know i need to reboot to get it working again. I have the zens dual charger with apple watch magnet and a stand for the iPhone. Watch always works, also my older XS Max. Only my 12 pro failes 50% of the times.

I believe it’s a software issue. My spouse and I both got our 12 Pro Max today and they will not charge wirelessly. We tried them on a Mophie 3-In-1 and two different Samsung chargers with no luck.

The reason I believe this is a software issue is because I had this same issue on my 11 Pro Max running iOS 14 developer beta. Before installing the beta on my 11, wireless charging worked fine. It even worked with the first couple of beta releases. However, after the early October release wireless charging stopped working on all three of my charging pads. Power cycling the phone fixed the issue for a day or two. The problem was reported via Feedback Assistant on 09 October, but I never heard anything back from Apple.

My spouses 11 Pro Max, which didn’t have the beta iOS, worked fine on all of our chargers.

I was hoping that the new phones would resolve the issue...unfortunately I now have 2 new phones that won’t wirelessly charge.

I have a temporary solution that at least works for me and hopefully some others. I have the Anker Qi Stand and an iPhone 12 Mini. It won't charge if I just place it on the stand. But if I position it about an inch up the slope of the stand and hold it there for a few seconds, charging will start. Then I can slide it down to the normal resting position and it keeps charging.

That's a bit annoying, so for now I just put a 1" piece of wood at the bottom of the slope, to keep the iPhone positioned a bit higher in what seems to be the prime charging spot.
