iPhone 12 Pro Wireless Charging Issues

I picked up the iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, and I can't get wireless charging to work properly. I have two Qi charging pads, both from different manufactures, and the 12 pro will only charge from them if it's been freshly rebooted. If I take the phone off the pad, and then place it back on the pad, it will not charge again unless I reboot the phone. The pads charge my Xs and my Galaxy S9, so they're not the problem. Anybody else having issues with wireless charging on the 12 pro?

I love it when someone who recently joined the forum with 4 points, tells someone who has been on the forum for over a decade and knows the forum managers personally, what Apple does or doesn't do here.

You are wrong. The people you hope are reading your posts are NOT here. If you want to tell Apple your thoughts where it will be heard you should do one or more of the following:

  1. Provide feedback via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Call Apple
  3. Use the Contact Support button at the top of this page
  4. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show them the issue you're having

Otherwise, it is you who is wrong about Apple paying attention here.

I have an iPhone 12. At home, I have an iHome clock radio with a Qi charger that works fine if my phone is set on it just right. At work I have a Yootech 3-in-1 charger and it works fine there too (again if put on just the right spot). However, I work at a car dealer with cars that have built in Qi chargers and it does not work on them. I have tried several different cars. It comes on but right away the charging shuts off and on my car display it says it is not compatible and, therefore not charging. I also hope it is a software issue because I am due for a new car this year one of the things I need is the wireless charging pad.

Its' extremely frustrating when you go through support and they give you a fix they know FULL WELL is temporary. There are NOT thousands of new phones out there that people have NEVER rebooted therefore have this issue.

I have an L2 support call for this issue booked for Monday; if they pull that stunt with me I'll just say I rebooted it already (which I have several times!).

I'm concerned about the other responses people seem to have gotten too, of "OS fix coming" or "return the phone"... How can they still not be coordinated on this? Did nobody log a knowledge-base article on it their help system yet???

I’m having the same issue on my iPhone 12 Pro; no charging indicator unless I reboot the phone. BUT, I think the phone might actually be charging; it’s just not reporting it.

My iPhone said I was at 72% battery 3 hours ago. And for the last 3 hours, I’ve had my phone on a MagSafe mount using Maps/Uber. I don’t get a charging indicator when I attach the MagSafe, but my phone is still at 72%.

I got curious and checked the Battery settings, and discovered a perfect horizontal line for the last 18 hours. The battery hasn’t changed by a single percent since 5am, even though I’ve been using it on and off the charger.

TL;DR - It seems the problem isn’t that MagSafe won’t charge, but that the iPhone doesn’t realize it’s charging.

It’s definitely not a hardware issue on the iPhone, nor an issue with the wireless charger.

Next time the issue arises, don’t reboot the phone. Instead, look at the battery percent, use the phone for a while, and see if it doesn’t go down. If it’s like mine, the battery percent will remain the same regardless of whether you’re wirelessly charging or not.

I think it might be the 5g modem.

I had this problem yesterday. All of the sudden my phone would no longer charge wirelessly. I did a reset and it charged for a bit...then stopped again.

I tested on two different wireless chargers and my phone would not take a charge. After resets, checking random settings on my phone—taking off the case and testing the different chargers again etc...

I randomly set my phone to LTE only and it started wireless charging properly again. Turned 5g back on—no charging. I did this a few times to make sure. Each time I got the same result:

5g on - No Wireless charging.

5g off - Wireless charging worked fine.

This may not be the answer. But it seems to be working for me. If this is an on going issue I’m sure some one at Apple with more time—and smarter than me will figure it out.

For reference, I am using an Anker wireless charger.

My phone, i12 pro, will charge wireless. But it’s spotty. Picky on orientation to the pad. It also will start to charge then stop. Battery capacity not withstanding.

It’s very annoying that I cannot drop the phone on the pad and know it’s charging. I have to tend to it, to the point of checking it at any opportunity to make sure it’s charged.

I have tried two different model chargers and same exact issue. Restarts seem to have no effect. Wired charging is flawless.

You need to ask Apple, not other users on a user to user only forum. Since you also started your own thread on this topic, I have no doubt you may not be able to charge with a Qi charger, but I also give you a suggestion on what you might try. No one I know who now has iPhone 12 is having any issues charging wirelessly, so your assertion they have a major problem is hyperbole.

You should however, let Apple know (if after trying the Forced Restart I suggested) if your phone continues to not charge on a Qi charger by contacting them. You certainly haven't contacted Apple here.

I for one have contacted Apple who suggested I get phone replaced in store. Problem is the stores don’t have any as they are on back order. All phones were to fulfil orders.

Even people who had phones replaced in the first few days say the Qi charging still isn’t working.

How do we properly escalate this with Apple if talking to Apple support isn’t raising it up to them?

Turning the 5G off didn’t make any difference to me. Neither does the hard restart. It Still connects fine but after 20 odd seconds just seems to disconnect from the charger as it was previously. Went back into the Apple service store last week and the technician blames the charging pad despite it working fine on all older phones and AirPods. He grumbled something about it being weird that it stop charging, but then tried it on a newer fast charge mophi pad and it worked without disconnecting. Said it was probably the low power output from my Qi pad that was causing the issue.

Still doesn’t explain why it works fine on my work XR or my wife’s 11

Same issue with the 12 pro (tested with x3 12 pro's), using QC3.0 bricks, 6 different qi chargers tested so far - all different manufacturers & all working on xr, xs & 11 models, software is up to date at 14.2. None will charge the 12 pro. Force restart does not resolve as it has for others, it won't even charge temporarily. All of the chargers will recognize a phone has been placed on them but none will charge the device.

Certainly hoping for a software fix.
