iPhone 12 Pro Lock Sound Issue

I just got my iPhone 12 Pro and found a very annoying issue with the lock sound and sometimes the keyboard typing sound.

The lock sound goes weird when it has been idle for a few seconds. If I start playing something, the lock sound of iPhone 12 Pro will stay normal for another few seconds.

Please see the video I took:

It happens after rebooting the device and happens all the time for me.

Is it only me or something wrong with the system?

Thanks

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

the same here. 12 Pro. But i've discovered one thing. if you do hard reset (volume up, volume down and hold power button until you see apple logo) that fix the problem.

The problem happened everytime i connect magsafe charger or the silicon case magsafe in iPhone. If i use thunderbird cable no problem. if i reboot the iPhone no problem. only when attach the magsafe (something) the problem come back.

so maybe it's the sound of magsafe create a bug.

System synths (sound) issue appears across entire iPhone 12 lineup. This includes variable/inconsistent volume levels of all system sounds including keyboard, lock, message sent/receive and other system’s synths. I am working with Apples senior support advisor on this issue.

The Lock synth distortion is triggered by MagSafe synth (when iPhone is connected to the MagSafe charger). iPhone must be restarted to restore proper Lock synth/sound.

Apple is aware of this issue and it is not fixed in iOS 14.3.

I contacted Apple support in the hope that it would get moved to the correct dev team etc by explaining what the issue is and that it is probably a software bug etc only to be advised to try a full reset and restore, even though this has been happening since it was new and out of the box, however I will try it in order to go back to them and have it escalated etc

I will keep posting any updates as and when!

I’ve never used MagSafe accessories and I have had the problem. Apple sent me a new phone and that phone still had the same problem. Keyboard sounds gradually get louder too. I factory reset, reset all settings, reinstalled iOS keeping the data, restored from backup. Nothing works, not on 2 iPhone 12 Pro’s. It’s not a MagSafe issue, it’s an iOS issue. Your case doesn’t matter either.

An update from my Apple Store visit today: I went to Apple Store and turned all display iPhones in front of me into the “weird lock sound mode”. And they said “it’s definitely not a bug, it’s designed like this to make you easier to differentiate whether you are using MagSafe.”

It’s real. Anything can happen in 2020.

Having the same issue on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Noticed the lock sound was sharper, with a lot more treble, shorter with less definition. Basically, less mechanical like the "normal" sound.

  1. Rebooted the phone and the sound returned to normal with Apple's Mag-Safe case installed.
  2. Attached the mag-safe charger to the back of the phone and this triggered the mag-safe sound and charging animation.
  3. Locked the phone and lock sound was now "different" and back to being "short."

Today I had the chance to try the iPhone 12 Pro of a friend. And what can I say? It had the same robotic/synthetic/echoing sound problem. At first my friend told me he didn't have any sound issues but when we did some tests and comparing songs on my old Pixel 2 against the iPhone 12 Pro and my mini he also became aware of this problem. It's like "What Has Been Seen Cannot Be Unseen" but with hearing. So there seems to be a problem with the audio engine in conjunction with the built in speakers. Strangely it's not very obvious for most listeners at first without having a real comparison. Sadly I know how some songs and voices of audio book readers have to sound and immediately can hear if anything is very wrong.
