Wireless Carplay issues once moving to IOS 14, 14.0.1 and then 14.1 (No issue when I had IOS 13.7)

Any luck with getting resolution with this issue? Kia told me it’s an apple problem and I’m ready to bring this car back now! It’s hazardous to keep worrying about pressing a button to get my maps to show up while I’m driving

I have spoke to Kia about it multiple times and constantly hear that it has nothing to do with them and to wait on Apple to send out an update. I can only complain so much with no resolution. I will see what they do

This is what we call pass the buck. The issue is between both Apple and Kia, but Apple can't adjust a Kia system. Only Kia can. I'm quite sure Kia and Apple are working together, but ultimately, you bought a Kia car and Kia has the responsibility to ensure the software in their cars work with the Apple systems.

Thanks. Guessing this is the case. When I first mentioned it to Kia I got “Never heard of this” responses. Once I showed them this thread I got “We have several customers complaining about this but it is Apples problem.” Told them since they sold me car and collected for CarPlay feature, then it is a Kia problem and they better resolve with Apple.

The most logical answer is it's a Kia issue, which needs to resolved between Kia and Apple. Apple gives the API for CarPlay to Kia. It's up to Kia to implement the software properly in their cars. Apple has no control over the software in any car manufacturers system. None.

Well said. I couldn't agree more. If this caught Kia off guard **AFTER** iOS 14 went public, then in my opinion, it's prima facia evidence that Kia wasn't as active as they should have been in Apple's developer programs and didn't thoroughly test with the pre-release iOS seeds. Whether that's a result of understaffing, COVID, negligence, incompetence or some other cause, they apparently missed the opportunity for this to be caught and fixed before the public release of iOS 14.x.

Definitely; the two have completely different head ends with different display sizes, and from what I have been able to find the Sorento's is "new for 2021," and their software platform will change to NVIDIA's as of 2022:

Any idea how we will get the upgraded software fix if/when KIA fixes it? Will it be some type of over air auto upgrade or will we all have to take it back to a dealer and fight for them to give us an upgrade?

Took delivery of a Brand New 2021 Santa Fe yesterday and having the exact same issue running IOS 14.3. My sons iphone (never updates) runs perfectly.

I hope a fix is coming soon or I may consider Android - as I am updating phone in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for the screenshot. I'm hoping this information will help us drive the conversation with our local service Dept. Hopefully, the phrase "only apply this bulletin to vehicles in dealer stock" does not prevent us from getting this installed on our personal vehicles, anyway.

I can't say for sure, but usually that's an admonition that this update is to be performed only to vehicles in stock on a blanket basis, and then is only performed on customer-owned vehicles if they complain of an issue.

So if you come in for an oil change or something, some updates are marked as blanket updates, say a fix to the engine management controller or the emissions system.

Others, like this one, will not be reimbursed unless it is in response to a specific complaint.

just in time because my last conversation with Kia corporate ended with me telling them “**** you” and I hung up! I had no more patience left!

Sad news to report. Got the update on my K5 last week and CarPlay worked great. Was finally happy about my car purchase. That joy lasted 6 days. Today my CarPlay quit working (got the phone not responding...... message like before). May have to talk to Kia about taking car back because this is ridiculous.

Lets not forgot that it was an Apple update that caused the problem. It worked fine before so I would say it was Apple that borked this. Kia tried to fix it and failed but I don't think they caused it.
