iPhone 12 losing service

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

I see we’ve all been having the same problems more or less. I purchased the IPhone 12 pro max through Verizon on pre-order. The moment I activated the phone I experienced an array of problems. Immediately after activating it kept dropping signal as if the phone was not activated. I reset the phone immediately and it appeared to fix the problem. That was only for the moment. It came back once I moved to a different area. This area I moved to normally has great LTE connection but the phone didn’t recognize it as such because it kept showing no data. I toggled airplane mode on and off and I would miraculously have 3 bars. If I didn’t toggle air plane mode it stayed with no service. I couldn’t understand why it never dropped to 3G like my previous iPhone XS Max did. I’ve heard Verizon’s trying to get away from its 3G so on iPhone 12 they don’t include the ability on the carriers software. My phone calls are horrible. It cuts in and I experience dropped calls. When dealing with Verizon I missed the 14 days return policy because I was too busy trouble shooting with Verizon and apple. I’ve been through Tier 1&2 support with both company’s. They both blame each other for the issue. I loved Apple up to this point and now I’m considering taking my business else where. Btw I didn’t mention anything regarding 5G with Verizon because the isn’t any in the state of Rhode Island. What a waste of a 5G device. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!!! I’m scheduled to go into a Apple store next week I’ll keep you updated

I have been having similar issues with my iPhone XR since I updated it to iOS 14. I was in a new area that I used my iPhone for maps. Once I turned off my phone because I had arrived, when I turned it back on, my bars were 3 or 4, but I could not load the very map I was using to get back, without toggling the Airplane Mode button.

This has happened when I would drive 25 miles away from home and then return, the internet would not respond without me toggling the Airplane Mode button, at home!

I have the same exact issue and it’s beyond frustrating. Luckily, I have an iPhone 11 as my work phone so a lot of times I have to hang up, and call with my iPhone 11 which I have no issues with. It happens way too often with my 12 pro. In some severe cases, my phone completely loses service and I have to toggle my phone to airplane mode on/off and it automatically goes into 5G then. Really hoping they can fix this. I’m running iOS 14.2.1 btw. Please Apple, fix this issue!

Same here! (Iphone 12 pro unlocked)

i live in Brooklyn, NY and can no longer get cellular connection in my apartment most of the time. It just disappears. I use both verizon sim + att esim and only sometimes it comes back on at full strength. (Without me moving)

so it is not a carrier issue and for me it only started yesterday and Ive had my phone for 5 weeks.

restart / toggling airplane mode do not work. It slso seems to be independent of 4G/LTE/5G for me.

please apple, fix this asap!

Same problem here with brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max, i constantly lose service while driving in car or train. after about 500m - 1000m it drops my call and i have to call back again (which is possible immediately after the call drops). Seems there is a problem with changing the mobile cellular radio cells.

Tried SIM cards from Vodafone and O2, the problem occurs on both.

When I put my Vodafone SIM card into my previous iPhone 11 Pro Max, no dropping calls at all, everything works fine.

Tried any way of configuration and a complete reset o iPhone 12 Pro Max. Nothing helped.

So: This is definitely a iPhone 12 (Pro) Issue, maybe 5G Modem /-Baseband related. I remember similar issues when the new Galaxy S20 Ultra released.

After a call with Apple Support they told me, that they haven't heard about this before (hard to believe, while all big Apple-Mags and forums have articles and threads about that issue). As there is no entry in the support database for this issue, i (and the support guy) don't think there is a quick fix around the corner. So my device will be returned to Apple for refund.

Iphone 12 Mini

SAME PROBLEM

I switched over from Android but this is making me regret it. Never had this problem on any phone I have owned before. I know Apple knows about it. They also removed the battery percentage from the top right corner, only the icon is available, to force us to use the battery widget which takes up more space one than needed. But the signal lost is too much. It happens every few hours.

Gonna give it a try, if not forget it, will go back to Android where this wasnt an issue on a new phone and where they dont force you to use widgets.

I have been having same problem phone dropping service where it should be strongest. I would have to toggle between air mode or reboot phone. Tried trouble shooting using with Verizon they tried to find problem and were more than willing to assist in anyway possible. I can’t say Apple was the same. I just went and had a new SIM card installed at local Verizon store and it’s not as bad and if drops will pick back up in a few seconds not perfect but better hope it does not get worse again fingers crossed

Return it,

i got the Iphone pro max three days ago i lost service the minute i stepped out of the stores LTE towers range,i had the phone for about 24 hours and in that time had service for about 30 minutes total. i tryed every trick people have posted even swapping the sim into another phone and all that the only thing that worked for me was like every 4-5 restarted it would get service for about 5 minutes then drop.

Mine seemed to be plagued with all the issues,Service Drops,No wireless charging, and would crash and restart itself half the time i opened the camera or sometimes even just unlocking it and super fast battery draining.

about the only issue i did have that others talked about was the greenish screen mine was perfect.

I Brought it back and had them swap it for a new 12 Max and this is second day with it, Has not lost service once, has not rebooted or crashed once, phones been running all day and im at 83% battery still after tons of texts and several short calls, and wireless charging works. if you are able to Exchange your device as it has to be a hardware issue not software at least it was for mine, the store said they had not had a single one of the Maxs come back with any issues so far besides mine, millions of people using them with 0 issues, exchange it if you can or demand they replace it if you cant.

I have the 12 mini and noticed signal issues immediately. There were occasions when I would lose the entire signal and it would take 2 to 10 mins to restore the signal. One time I turned the phone off and on and took another few minutes for signal to restore. The phone is brand new and should not be having issues with the signal. I except at least 2 bars at all times and never expect to have no signal unless I am in some remote area. Definitely not at home, in the car, etc..

My carrier is Verizon and they agreed to send me a new phone because currently messages works, I can make phone calls but I cannot receive any calls. Weird huh? Even call forwarding does not work. This is very, very odd.

Before the phone I had the 7. Thought it was smart to upgrade.

Im having the same issues. I will be speaking to a client and all of sudden the client will say " Can you hear me, are you there" then I get a green circle call failed. Very unprofessional. This never happened at that location with my iPhone 10. I also had issues with no service at all in the same location where I had great service with the iPhone 10. What concerns me the most is missing an emergency call while driving and not realizing I have no service. I visited the Verizon store from which I bought the phones and they said it's a SIM card issue. I had the simm cards changed out on both phones and it made no difference. I would go back to the iPhone 10s but we traded them in. I was told to to toggle airplane mode to bring back service and that worked, but this fix is unacceptable. I turned off the 5G and that did not help. I have 2 iPhone 4s, 5s, 6s, always kept them as a backup, but I traded my 10s who knew?
