iPhone 12 losing service

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max on Verizon (Orlando, Florida) had connectivity issues, dropped and failed calls. Spoke with Verizon support earlier today and they were able to help me resolve the issue:

  • Settings
  • Cellular
  • Cellular data options
  • Voice & Data - select > LTE

5G is very weak in Orlando and my iPhone used to disconnect because it was on > 5G AUTO (it was trying to connect to 5G network which was almost absent and then trying to switch back to LTE). If 5G is bad in your area, there is no point to try connecting to it. Just use LTE network only and you should have no issues with dropped calls (I hope it helps).

I bought the new iPhone 12 about 2 weeks ago... I have consistently had dropped calls. I call Verizon my carrier and while talking to them on several occasions my phone dropped called several times, they said to reset my network which I have done both at home and work, - twice no less.

Still frustrated and having issues, I went to the Verizon store last week only to have them swap out the sims card. Still having issues with it. Went back today 11/16/20 and they want to send me a replacement phone.... WTF, I didn’t “like many of you” shell out over a $$ grand for such garbage and a refurbished phone. I’m ready to move to an Android

I had trouble with 4G & 5G on my Verizon iPhone 12 Pro from Verizon where it would drop to no signal while using 14.2.

After reading similar problems on Reddit, I set my cellular options to No Roaming and LTE. This worked pretty well for four days with only a few No Signal problems, that could be cleared up with Airplane Mode toggle.

Last night I decided to turn off WiFi and set the cellular settings to No Roaming and 5G Auto. It’s been working for 24hrs with no No Signal problems. I see 5G and 5Guw at home.

The iPhone 12 is defected , I’ve tried every troubleshoot possible and still have no data connection .. I even have full bars on lte , and still can’t upload my google page due to “ no connection “ . I’ve ran tests with a Verizon technician .. and they still can’t figure it out . I have lost numerous phone calls within the last few days . Really important phone calls .. I’ve read a lot of people having the same issue . I will never be purchasing a new apple product again as this has caused a serious issue as far as headaches etc .

The same with the iPhone 12 pro, its a defective product that’s just frustrating on all levels. I’m NEVER going to be quick to buy an apple product again myself. The Customer service do not even want to acknowledge the fault either, when i called again.

Fortunately i have a spare phone handy, and i have to confirm, its not my networks issue in London, UK.

The fact that I have one of the latest products and it’s SO unreliable is a JOKE

I’m from Bangladesh and this is happening to my IPhone 12 pro as well. I’m loosing the network frequently and to get it back, I have to restart my phone.. putting it onto flight mode doesn’t work and I have to shut down and restart my phone to have my network back. This is insane!

this IPhone 12/pro seems to be the worst one ever made.

I’m already facing serious battery drainage and also at the same time, phone is getting hot while usage and now, this network issues... such an expensive phone and with all the issues, Apple should have been more careful before launching this..

never had this issue with my 11 pro. I totally regret ...

Not satisfied at all with the new phone 12Pro...

if any has any solution to this, kindly refer.

thanks

I'm now on my 2nd iPhone 12 Pro and still having the same issues. Mine drops calls only in a certain areas around where I live but I still have 4 bars of signal reception! Basically the person I'm talking with can't hear me but I can still hear them or it just gives me the call failed screen. All with 4 bars! I've called Spectrum multiple times as well as Apple and they both blame the other one for the problem. I've tried every option, diagnostic test, SIM card swap, replace the phone, reset carrier settings, etc. and nothing has changed! My new phone that I just set up yesterday literally said Call Failed on the very first phone call I made! I'm pretty ****** since I've spent about 10 hours on the phone and going by the Spectrum store only to get the same results; which is nothing! I had an iPhone 8 that worked flawlessly on the same network but unfortunately traded it in on the new 12 Pro. Everyone else I know in the same area with Spectrum doesn't have these problems but none of them have a 5G phone. It seems to be related to that for some reason. I'm about to send this one back for the 11 Pro and hope that resolves it! No idea what else to do!

Since I’ve gotten my 12 pro I constanstsly go to 1x never get 5G. My husband has a 5G Samsung and has no issues getting signal so I know it is not an issue of not having coverage in our area. Previous phone was 11 Pro and did not have issue always was on LTE. Have to keep phone on WiFi at home or can’t send text messages. If I text anyone who is not on iPhone it fails since I am not getting enough coverage. I have done several network resets spoken with level 1 and level 2 tech support with resets, refreshes and setting adjustments with no luck in resolving.

As a little update for all of you, I HAVE actually started to experience more reliable coverage in my problem area (home). It seems to not be freaking out (switching between 5G, LTE, 1x, 4G, 3G, E, No Service) as often and I actually haven't had it go to any of those terrible ones (E, 3G, No Service, 1x) in the last 48-72 hours that I've noticed. I haven't had to Airplane Mode toggle for a few days now.

5G speeds however are still not as fast as I was expecting...hoping that those get faster for inside my home, but when I am driving and out'n about 5G seems to give around 100mbs download (upload is still really slow for some reason). Now this is normal 5G and not millimeter wave tech so I'd expect this is in the vicinity of normal for 5G.

So, from my perspective (and I am not shy to be very critical as you might have noticed by previous posts on this thread), it does seem like something is changing. Whether that's my phone learning (working out the kinks), Apple doing some sort of over the air fix, or the carrier getting their stuff together with 5G towers. There is a DEFINITE difference from when this all first started for the first few days of owning the phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max on Spring/T-Mobile now a T-Mobile SIM).

If I had to try and pinpoint what changed on my end (settings, new SIM, troubleshooting, etc) I wouldn't be able to. When T-Mobile switched me over from a Sprint 5G SIM to a T-Mobile 5G SIM as soon as I got home I saw no difference (same problems persisted). Now, 5 or so days after the switch, I find myself not noticing any real problems with coverage. I am using my phone like I usually would (without WiFi) in my house and there doesn't seem to be a huge issue.

TLTR: I am noticing a significant change occurring in my specific case. I've had the phone for 7 days now (since launch) and the first 4 days were terrible with the last 3 days being surprisingly better/more normal. 5G speeds are still not as fast as expected in my house but the trend line seems to be going up in terms of speed, reliability, and the craziness (drop of service) not happening NEARLY as much. SO things do seem to be looking up. Maybe hold onto your iPhone for as long as you can handle it in your specific instance to see if things work themselves out or the parties are working on it? I know anyone that got the iPhone 12 Pro Max or Mini delivered on the 13th have until Jan 8 to return their phone if bought through the online Apple Store.

I wish I could say things are improving, but it seems worse. I resorted to using my Xfinity VoIP number to avoid a dropped call, and it happened on the Wi-Fi, too. I’m retired, so my phone use isn’t as critical as some of the previous contributors and my wife’s Xr works normally. It seems to me that this is a 5g issue. I’m sure when the 5g party is finally in full swing, it’ll be great. Right now, I feel like I showed up too soon, and the host hasn’t started making the appetizers.

So, Here's what I've gathered so far. After numerous hours on the phone with Spectrum and Apple I finally got some somewhat useful info from tech support from Spectrum; which is going to apply to Verizon customers too. They are working on a carrier update that will hopefully be out the first week of Dec. He seemed to think this would help with the problem and hopefully the 14.3 update from Apple will as well. It seems to me that they prematurely launched 5G and the phones without working out some major bugs! I was going to send my 12 Pro back and get the 11 Pro but I just found out this morning that it has been discontinued! So now I'm going to take the gamble that they get these annoying kinks in the 12 Pro worked out over the next few weeks. I'm going to be ****** if this keeps going on and I get past the point of being able to return my phone!

My Apple rep just emailed me suggesting to update to 14.2.1 as a possible solution as well.

Downloading now to see, but it might be hard for me to tell any difference from the already better service I’ve been getting over the past few days.

Regardless, it seems things are looking in a more positive direction. Some people are starting to admit there is a problem at least.

“....Joe and Joe tenial memory back....”

Haven’t a clue what that means.

Apple Support apparently suggested getting rid of private VPN in case it caused a problem 7 pages ago and I agreed.

Private VPN is a security risk but is probably NOT causing this. As I also said some pages back.

But you have to eliminate useless snake oil apps like private VPN and antivirus first to get a clear run at diagnosis

junk like that has no place on an iphone is all.
