iOS 14.2 intercom issues

We updated to iOS 14.2 today. One 4k Apple TV, one HomePod, an iPhone 11 Pro Max, Apple Watch series 6 (7.1), and iPhone XS Max.


Using the HomePod to send an intercom message shows up on the iPhones and watch.


The 11 Pro Max shows three recent intercoms and plays through them all. The intercom notification on the Lock Screen lays under the status bar, so the X is under the battery indicator.


The Apple Watch receives the intercom but the buttons do not respond to any taps. I can dismiss the notification but that is all.


The iPhone XS Max only shows the most recent intercom but never plays any audio. It can play music, ring tones play, but the intercoms are silent.


Anyone else having issues? I have rebooted devices to no avail.

Had the same issue and resolved.

on the device that is only showing ‘never’ go into the privacy setting, location services and then come down to HomeKit. If this is set to never then it stop you changing the status. Change this and go back to the home setting in HomeKit and you’ll be able to change the notifications.

I meant logged in to the same iCloud account. I suppose it makes some sense, though there are use cases where it wouldn’t (kids without their own accounts, etc).


I had location services for the home app turned off on multiple devices and would have never realized that was the reason intercom wasn’t working had I not done a Google search. I also had a hard time setting up the HomePod to recognize each of our voices, although I eventually got it working. But again, there’s no discoverability about this. I had to look it up on the Apple’s site.
