iPhone 12 screen brightness issue

My iphone 12 pro brightness is inconsistent. Its dims or gets darker screen when its at max and after i sleep my screen and wake it again, it gets much much brighter.

As if it was on 25%. Its seems to me like a lag or something of the sort happens to the screen. Any suggestions?

Hi all!

Just check that you've switched off the Auto-Brightness feature (please don't confuse with Settings->Display & Brightness->Automatic !).

You need to switch off these features here:

1) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Auto-Brightness

2) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Reduce White Point

(frankly speaking, turn off all features in the Display & Text Size).

The iPhone 12 Pro's display is amazing in compare to iPhone 11 Pro.

Cheers 🙌

Thanks for your suggestion. I sent my issues and complaints to Apple today in the link you provided. As stated earlier, even tho Best Buy replaced the display after I complained and after the diagnostics showed a KBB (known) issue, she told me not to be surprised if the issues start again — she said, “That’s what the 12’s do…”.

Mine used to be the best untill winter. Now the simmer is here, when i use outdoor, the phone warms up in 15 to 30 min and screen brightness reduces. After that i was never able to get the full brightness. Nite the auto brightness in display and brightness setting and the accessibility setting is off. Still no solution. I have to say the phone gets warm very fast

As I stated in an earlier post, Apple did authorize Best Buy to replace the "display" in my phone. The next day I hiked, and the phone overheated and the screen dimmed, and the temperature of the device (using an oral thermometer--not very technical, but all I had) was back up to 105 degrees). Back to Best Buy the following day - Apple wants me to send my phone to them and they will replace it when they receive my phone, but I'm leaving for a 2 week trip and that would leave me without a phone if their replacement didn't come in prior to my departure. BB had none of these phones in stock (excluding the ones on the "floor" but they couldn't dip into that stash)... So, I'm leaving on a once-in-a-lifetime trip with a phone that overheats and can't take pictures if it is slightly warm outside (Egypt will be hot).. So very disappointed. Best Buy says they will call me if a phone happens to come into their stock prior to my trip....As back up, I did buy a Sony camera, and now need to learn to use it..

My granddaughter says when she goes to ball practice, she puts hers in the container where cold drinks are kept — otherwise the device overheats and she can’t use it. I have sent my feedback to Apple. Hope others are doing the same. We all paid a lot to get the “best, latest” device — and it is useless and not dependable. Getting a replacement that does the same thing isn’t a reasonable “fix”.

Broken Record.. I'm singing to the choir.... While waiting for Best Buy to get me a replacement phone, I took the iPhone 12 Pro to the Verizon store to see if they had any ideas on the dimming/overheating issue. They did a "soft re-set" and did not see any issues with the performance of the phone. Got to the car to check messages, the screen started dimming (Maybe it is the sunlight that triggers the dimming?? and the device got hot to the touch. --(Best Buy has already replaced the "display". ) - I tried to adjust the brightness in settings, took the slider to the left -- the screen turned entirely black and I could not adjust anything or see anything.. Powered down the phone, held it in front of the car's AC, turned it back on, but the screen remained too dark to see anything. After about an hr, I restarted it again and the screen was a little brighter. Tried to adjust the Display/Brightness again, and immediately the screen turned black. . All of you are experiencing the same thing.

I'm planning a trip to Egypt - a very hot location. My new fear/concern is not being able use my phone to show boarding passes, find flight changes, even text and message because I can't see the screen. At first I was just concerned about not being able to take pictures, so purchased a little Sony camera for the trip -- but then remembered that these phones do so much more than pictures! I am seriously considering buying a 10 or 11 for the trip -- or another model that is more reliable. (got suggestions?) Was looking at another Community discussion board ("iPhone overheating") -- so many complaints about everything we have talked about here.. I'm just frustrated, concerned and disappointed (but you know that because I say it in every post :) )

I would think just about any phone would operate gracefully under 85-90F. I’ve owned 7 iPhones and never had an issue. 14 if you count everyone in the family over the years.

Heck I took my iPhone 6 to Spain a few years ago during a horrific heatwave. I took pics like crazy and it was sunny and never had an issue with my screen. Always bright.

No, I am an old lady and got this phone for the huge screen. Vision problems. I use the phone for fitbit and noom. Always in the house and my issue not with overheating. Screen darkens to unusable inside out of direct sun. 3 or 4 times totally black as navigator/passenger using google maps.

Yes, horrible for those of us buying "best of the best" Just got replacement yesterday from support and we shall see. As stated my use of phone on a HEAVY day is about 1 hour total but going to work it out now with Apple Arcade. haha

I think even a person streaming media... the device is advertised to do it so WTHeck? It SHOULD!
