iPhone 12 screen brightness issue

My iphone 12 pro brightness is inconsistent. Its dims or gets darker screen when its at max and after i sleep my screen and wake it again, it gets much much brighter.

As if it was on 25%. Its seems to me like a lag or something of the sort happens to the screen. Any suggestions?

Hi all!

Just check that you've switched off the Auto-Brightness feature (please don't confuse with Settings->Display & Brightness->Automatic !).

You need to switch off these features here:

1) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Auto-Brightness

2) Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Reduce White Point

(frankly speaking, turn off all features in the Display & Text Size).

The iPhone 12 Pro's display is amazing in compare to iPhone 11 Pro.

Cheers 🙌

Hey all. Yesterday it was 72F outside. I was listening to audio with an app and screen was off all the while I was listening. I was in the shade. Within 10 mins the audio stopped. I turned the phone on and it had the thermometer icon and the extreme temp warning and the phone shut off.

This is absolutely not acceptable! Apple needs to figure this out, it’s a major and fatal flaw.

That’s absolutely right. My phone is dimming off when the temperature is 6 degree Celsius in Australia. Apple has not done an effective action as this problem has been going on for several months since November 2020. It’s not worth at all to pay $2000 to use this phone because it can’t be used most of the days since purchased and Apple stores don’t do replacement for this issue. People in this group should stop assuming it’s overheating problem.

I replaced my 12 pro max cause of dimming and overheating not even hot out , sun still not out in days here in New York been cloudy if the replacement does it they have a serious problem with the 12s !! I would hope to get a free upgrade to a 13 or some sort of resolution to this horrible problem , strange thing also the replacement iPhone 12 Pro Max they just gave me is much much faster than my original 12 pro max .

They replaced my 12 Pro and it immediately dimmed and overheated. I went right back to the store and downgraded to the 11-Pro. It cost me a bunch (again). Got only a small trade in on the 2-hour old newly-replaced 12-Pro phone because they said it was based on the original purchase in November. The 11Pro is performing fine — just did two weeks vacation in bright sun and intense heat in Egypt with no problem.

Just got my 12 pro Max and went out today with my drone , got the drone up and about half a mile away and suddenly screen went dark , tried brightness max auto off etc but still so dark that I could not even see anything the drone was seeing , I kind of panicked thinking how would I get the drone back when I can't see a thing , luckily the back to home function worked and got my drone home safe , but this is useless for the drone , when I checked the phone it was so hot I couldn't keep it in my hand

it's about a week old

I bought my iPhone 12 Pro Max on 12Jan 2021 I noticed the brightness issue from day 3 , so I thought it’s an issue with over heating problem but now I can’t even do Teams meeting or play some games in the day time inside my room or anywhere😞, it keep on dims itself which I can see anymore , Apple customer service ran an diagnostics in my phone and said there was a issue with my display and recommended me to visit the apple store and store done the factory reset to fix the problem and said no issues with my brightness/display.

My issue started again on the same day now they did all the process again and asking me to handover the device for couple of days in service center to analyse the issue which is really annoying.

can someone point me to the right direction what should we do to fix the issue ?? As I can see replacing the device is not gonna help in anyway

kindly suggest

i had the same issues — dimming and overheating from day one (I was first in line when the 12 was released, wanting the good camera). Not much of an issue during lockdown because I didn’t use it much, but then I started going outside to take pictures… and the issue persisted. Sounds like I had the same diagnostics and “fixes” as you. They even replaced my iPhone 12 Pro, but same issues as soon as I received it. Because I was planning a trip and wanted pics, I bought a Sony and also downgraded to an 11Pro. No issues with the 11.

i am using the iPhone original case which I bought with apple , so meaning issue with the case ??? Do you have better suggestions ? People put more money into this phone to enjoy it not to face this dimming issue always even when open the camera under the sun right ??

i used my phone in 28 C heat and after 2 photos the phone went to dim mode is it normal in 12 pro max ??

I don't know what case you have or how warm your phone was before taking photos, but one of the biggest things you can do is turn down the brightness; for example even in direct sunlight, mine is never above 7/8.

I use my camera regularly to shoot in bright daylight and have never had any issues, but I also usually don't take more than ten to fifteen seconds to compose and take the photo.

Yeah I used the camera for not more than a min and it got dimmer, I tried all my best possible ways to find the solution but no luck 😟, customer care ran some diagnostics and says I have some issue with my display where service center says no issue , now all they need is to keep my phone for observation(2days) don’t know what help I am gonna get from them , that’s why I created this post if anyone has a permanent fix or this is known issue to everyone , still wondering bro , thanks for your response 🙂
