iPhone 12 mini touchscreen issues

You need to update the system to the latest system 14.6. Upgrading solved all my issues.

I have the same problem here. Screen is unresponsive in lock mode when I have the screen protector (Belkin screen protector sold by Apple) and case (Apple official Macsafe case).

It definitely looks like a grounding issue, because everything works ok if you touch the metal part of the iPhone. The case plus the screen protector seem to isolate the phone in a way that the lock screen becomes unresponsive. I hope Apple releases a statement as soon as possible about this problem. Luckily, the return period is wide and I have until 8th Jan to return it. I am seriously thinking about requesting a refund and maybe getting a regular Iphone 12. A shame because I really like the form factor of this one.

I've also found that if you put the phone on the desk and try to activate the torch using your thumb, it doesn't work ... use your index finger on the same hand (right in my case) and it seems to work fine.

As suggested already - connect a charging cable and it works perfectly with case and screen protector fitted.

I did a web chat with apple who initially offered to swap the device (after doing a software diagnostics). I asked for it to be escalated and the next person talked me through restoring the software and setting the phone up as a new device - which made no difference whatsoever ...

Had a call back from Apple, they confirmed that more people have been reporting this and their engineering team is working on it - no sign of a date on resolution, but they said it's definitely a software issue.

My daughter has the iphone 12 (larger 6 inch) and uses the Zagg Invisishield screen protector and has NO issues. The phone touch screen works perfect.

I have the iphone 12 mini and use the EXACT Zagg screen protector and have the issues with the touchscreen not working.

Zagg is not an inexpensive screen protector. I am not sure why I have issues and my daughter does not using the exact same protector. I can't imagine that all of the Zagg protectors and many other companies screen protectors no will not work with the iphone 12 mini. That is a huge amount of money they have wasted in the manufacture of their products. I believe it is with the iphone 12 mini hardware or software issue. Hopefully they will fix this...either Apple or the screen protector manufacturers. I need a screen protector. feel very odd using it naked :)

Yes the 14.2.1 update has fixed our problems too. Thanks to everyone for posting and Apple for the relatively fast response. I was hopeful they were on top of it as they were continuing to sell the phones.

So my issues seem to be limited to the Lock Screen, and it’s not all the time there seems to be no rhyme nor reason it’s just random!

As suggested by someone else it seems to be a grounding issue and touching a metal part of the phone makes it work - so with a case on this means touching the camera housing. VERY annoying!

Strange that in principal for almost all phones the problem is solved with the soft ware update and your phone is still having these problems. Are you sure you installed ios 14.2.1 and if so I suggest to execute a factory reset and install latest software ware again.

Yes, I reported it this morning and told them that others in this forum are reporting lingering issues as well.

Long story short, after sharing all the detail of the issue that I experienced this morning, it came down to the Apple representative asking me for the make and model of my screen protector and phone case. He said that if I experience it again, to remove the screen protector and case to see if the problem persists - before I try to do anything to fix the problem (like turning off the phone).

He said that if the problem persists after removing the screen protector and case, to follow the phone reset steps in the article found on this URL:

Maybe some of you are at the point of wanting to give that a try.

I ended up doing a forced shut down of the phone; click volume up, click volume down, then click and hold the right side button. I also read in some forum about simply touching any metal part of the phone case as the problem was thought to be due to static (?).

I had to do the shut down once and it hasn't recurred. I had the latest iOS version when this happened.

My iPhone 12 MIni wouldn't respond either until I put my finger on the lens. I had a case and a screen protector. I think there's a grounding issue that was solved with the software update 14.4.0. I know it doesn't sound right but there's some electrical issue for sure.

I upgraded my iPhone 12 Mini to 14.3 from 14.1 and my touch screen issues from the locked screen disappeared.

I had the same issue with my Mini 12 G but the update of 14.3 fixed it. If you're still having problems put your finger on the camera lens on the back when you swipe from the locked screen.

Have you updated to 14.3. That fixed the problem for me.

Just so everyone with issues is aware, there is a new update to 14.4 which may resolve issues some may still be having.
