I have installed Big Sur. Now I cannot use or download our Canon printer driver......
Hello again,
Yes, the Canon (PIXMA) MG5350 is mentioned in the article About AirPrint - Apple Support as a printer supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. This means that the printer is compatible with macOS (Big Sur).
Regarding the firmware, please have a look at https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mg_series/pixma_mg5350.html?type=firmware . There is an AirPrint Firmware Updater (Mac) for MG5300 series Ver.1.2b (19 September 2017). Unless already installed, please note the updating details.
Also see the Manual for how to use AirPrint for Mac.
It may not be a bad idea to reset the printing system (steps in the following article) before you add the printer.

Information about how to add the printer can be found here:

It should not be too difficult to make this work. Do you have an existing Wi-Fi network with a router? If so, make sure that the printer and the Mac computer are connected to the same network. Do not hesitate to post back in case of additional questions.
Good luck!
I had done downloaded fresh copies of software early on, and installed them — after I had deleted canon printer software and reset the printing system. That wasn’t enough until I adjusted the firewall settings.
On the regular European (I'm in the Netherlands) Canon site it says that drivers are not available for Big Sur. I found however the scanner software on a Canon Hongkong site: https://hk.canon/en/support/0200482010/13?model=0617C
I installed this software. Opened it, but strangely enough it shows my old Canon MG5700 printer in there again by default. This is not the printer I currently have. And so it doesn't work. I'm surprised it still shows my old printer name in there even though I completely removed all the old Canon software before and reinstalled everything from scratch.
Hi mate, thanks for your help.
No I can't change the selection. The old (already removed MG5700 printer) is the only option in there.
However, I just found out that I will probably not need the Canon scan utility anymore.
There's a "Scan" tab if you select your printer in the Printers & Scanners wizard box in the Mac OS settings:
When you click open scanner, it will startup the printer scan function on your printer device. The prompt gives you the same options for every document you want to scan as the Scan Utility software from Canon. So you can chose it's DPI, document feeder or flatbed, the folder you want to save the scan to and the file name. Afterwards in Finder you will be able to rotate the document as I just did with my daughter's school assignment:
Hi,
Thank you for this report. It shows that it can be worth testing older driver versions (and possibly drivers for other, similar models) before throwing away a printer. In some cases, just resetting the printing system and re-adding the printer may allow things to begin working again.
Found this great website with a variety of drivers depending on the software you are currently running on your device. Found the MP270 once for Big Sur towards the bottom of the list. Hope this helps!

Another option is to try using the demo version of Pacifist to install the driver.
No issue using my Canon TS8320. I installed all the software from the Canon site and works fine including the scanner.
This was sooo helpful, download this guten print file and the printer comes up on a new mac as a printer and with a cord, no need for wireless!
thanks so much!!
Try the demo version of VueScan. It supports nearly every scanner made. Its website will have a list of supported scanners.
Thank you very much, very helpful! I just got a reply from Canon saying that they tried and could install the driver to OS11.0.1/M1 without problems. They suggest a few points I should check as OS version and administration rights. I'll let you know if I find out what causes the trouble.
Good news/bad news for me:
Good news--UFRII_v10.19.6_Mac.zip is now posted on the Canon support site as of 12/14/2020 and claims to support Big Sur and the M1.
Bad news--same error appears when trying to install it.
Really not sure what is going on here, as surely they are testing the install package on the appropriate setup before releasing it?
I noticed that for some Canon printers with current drivers (Nov/Dec 2020) and showing support for Big Sur 11.0.1, that the drivers install properly on Intel Macs running Big Sur, and refuse to install on Apple Silicon M1 Macs running the same version of Big Sur. The dialog complains about the architecture as unsupported. May be a more widespread issue…
This was an interesting suggestion. I tried it, and found the same thing. If I use AirPrint (default), or if use the IP address, I can print to the printer. In both cases, I cannot scan from the multifunction printer. In my case, I'm using a PIXMA MG7120.
I had to junk my All in One for this very reason.
The printer and scanner continued to work fine if you installed using a macOS Catalina or earlier and then upgraded to newer MacOSs, but Canon refuses to make a 64bit installer available to help all of us with this problem out.
It may not be planned obsolesence but it is ignoring the needs of your customers so I've moved on to another manufacturer.
I recently installed Big Sur and removed all software not compatible with this macOS, including Canon Printer software, including all 'canon' files from the User Library (Prefs '.canon.plist', Plugins 'CIJAutoSetupTool.app', Caches, Extensions, Library-LaunchDaemons 'jp.co.canon.MasterInstaller.plist', etc).
Downloaded the Canon software 'mcpd-mac-mg5700-16_40_1_0-ea21_3.dmg' - successfully installed 'Printer Driver MG5700 series' compatible with Mac Big Sur.
I had no other printer drivers installed, so as instructions, tried to 'Add' the latest driver while the Canon Printer was plugged in and switched on - nothing doing. Printer could not be found.
Before the upgrade from High Sierra to Big Sur, this Canon inkjet printer was working without a problem. The Printer software was obviously compatible and a fairly recent upgrade (whilst being used with High Sierra) was successfully installed.
I used to have no problem sharing this printer and printing files sent from my older iMac running MacOS El Capitan. I will now try adding a driver compatible with MacOS El Capitan to see if it will work with the older iMac.
