Go to system preferences -> security and privacy -> firewall tab -> firewall options -> a kind of rectangle it says file sharing smb on top -> you click the + bottom left side of the rectangle -> then look for both:

/Applications/Canon Utilities/IJ Scan Utility/Canon IJ Scan Utility2

and

/Library/Image Capture/Devices/Canon IJScanner 13f

you have to click the + twice for each 2 application 1 at a time

that should do and you will be able to scan.

Best of luck

I recently installed Big Sur and removed all software not compatible with this macOS, including Canon Printer software, including all 'canon' files from the User Library (Prefs '.canon.plist', Plugins 'CIJAutoSetupTool.app', Caches, Extensions, Library-LaunchDaemons 'jp.co.canon.MasterInstaller.plist', etc).

Downloaded the Canon software 'mcpd-mac-mg5700-16_40_1_0-ea21_3.dmg' - successfully installed 'Printer Driver MG5700 series' compatible with Mac Big Sur.

I had no other printer drivers installed, so as instructions, tried to 'Add' the latest driver while the Canon Printer was plugged in and switched on - nothing doing. Printer could not be found.

Before the upgrade from High Sierra to Big Sur, this Canon inkjet printer was working without a problem. The Printer software was obviously compatible and a fairly recent upgrade (whilst being used with High Sierra) was successfully installed.

I used to have no problem sharing this printer and printing files sent from my older iMac running MacOS El Capitan. I will now try adding a driver compatible with MacOS El Capitan to see if it will work with the older iMac.

After I following your advice I can definitively say it doesn't help. No drivers for my canon printers appear.

I don't see any available drivers at Canon's website for Big Sur, so not sure what others are working with.

Also, Gutenprint which I have used for decades to support many printers appears to be stale and lists no support for Big Sur either?

Would have thought Apple would include these drivers with the OS? They did with High Sierra.

Maybe Apple got a payoff from Canon to force us all to buy new gear.? Just Kidding. I hope.

If you have a Canon printer with wireless functionality - I have the MP560 - and there are no printer drivers available on the Canon support page for that printer, try looking at the "Apps & Function" tab on the same page. The Canon smartphone app can be used to print documents from your phone, with the catch that the docs have to be in a supported cloud server, e.g. Dropbox or GoogleDocs. It would be helpful if under the tab on the Canon support page that says no drivers are available if it would point you to the app.
