I have installed Big Sur. Now I cannot use or download our Canon printer driver......
Hello again,
Yes, the Canon (PIXMA) MG5350 is mentioned in the article About AirPrint - Apple Support as a printer supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. This means that the printer is compatible with macOS (Big Sur).
Regarding the firmware, please have a look at https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mg_series/pixma_mg5350.html?type=firmware . There is an AirPrint Firmware Updater (Mac) for MG5300 series Ver.1.2b (19 September 2017). Unless already installed, please note the updating details.
Also see the Manual for how to use AirPrint for Mac.
It may not be a bad idea to reset the printing system (steps in the following article) before you add the printer.

Information about how to add the printer can be found here:

It should not be too difficult to make this work. Do you have an existing Wi-Fi network with a router? If so, make sure that the printer and the Mac computer are connected to the same network. Do not hesitate to post back in case of additional questions.
Good luck!
Just to add, I followed the instructions posted and when I connect my printer nothing pops up. The computer doesn't even recognize that the printer is connected. Checking Canon's website, it states that the drivers are built into my OS (Big Sur) so they don't offer drivers on their website. This is now an Apple issue. When installed previously, it was a plug and play option.
If I didn’t know any better I’d say it looks like Canon is dropping support for printers in Big Sur to drive sales.
But I don’t think that’s true, it’s more likely that something fundamental has changed in Big Sur making it very hard for Canon to update the drivers for the new operating system.
Very helpful, thanks for the insights. I was able to force the install using your instructions and was able to get the drivers installed. Unfortunately, the printer is still not working, despite the fact that printer status is being displaying and most diagnostic functions appear to be working. Upon sending a print job to the machine, it goes to "in use" and stays there. Queue states that the printer is not responding.
Normal printing on existing Win10 machine works fine. Looks like something related to Big Sur/M1 is still very much broken.
Appreciate your help!
I also tried reinstalling printers from scratch and gluten print driver for Canon but to no avail, still printing blank pages. It has gotten to the point where I don't want to update my computer at all because every time there are issues. If anyone has any other suggestions other than those previous shared that would be great
Thank you. As far as I have found, AirPrint seems to be designed to work with "iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" .. And I am hoping to get it to work from my Mac (I'll keep looking). I have asked Canon what their plans are via their help desk & Facebook, so will post here if I get a reply.
There is an Air Print section for MACs. I have had a look but can't rationalise why it would work if the printer doesn't work when connected via USB. So will hang on and wait and see whether Canon will make the changes needed ...
This was the solution that did it for me (and thanks for the additional explanation). After running the installer once, I attempted to select the correct driver, but it still wasn't seeing it. I ran it a second time, and all was good (though I'm not sure if it just hadn't indexed—I was a bit impatient after trying to find an [this] answer!)
This was for a Canon Color ImageRUNNER C3325i should that help anyone else with their troubleshooting.
Thanks again!
Jan, thank you for your suggestions. I hope these work for others.
I asked Canon (via facebook) whether they would be updating their drivers and their message was "All drivers available for Big Sur have been released, so the information on our website will not change."
I have downloaded the firmware but I cannot detect an understandable way of implementing it. We're all different and I hope others can get it to work.
Myself, I know where the shop is and how to get there, so in a few days that's what I will do.
Fantastic... thanks very much for posting this... saved the day. This worked for me too. I'm using a Pixma ip100 successfully, after a bit of a hiccup directly after installation it is now working well.
It's obvious these corps just don't give a ****, in light of that when the MacBook Pro is worn out I won't be replacing it with another apple products, the same goes with the iPhones; in fact, across the board, I've found their products are of increasingly inferior quality, while the price continues to climb despite the fact that the products are junk. In other words just like every other company.
As I said, they just don't care, all one can do is show your displeasure by taking your business elsewhere.
Hi,
I'm having the exact same problem. Can't for the life of me connect my Canon printer to my new Macbook with Big Sur - I've tried the advice somebody's given here but nothing's worked so far.
Does anyone know when there will be a software by Canon (for connecting their printers to Big Sur)?
Thanks a lot.
So I found a nuance that may be a direction to go to get scanner to work. Using MBair on Wi-Fi, I scanned a page (on the glass) using the Mac’s print/scan tool in settings. My Mac mini is USB wired directly to the PIXMA TR8550. That wired connection can’t find the scanner. I need to verify but it looks like I just need to pull the USB and connect over WiFi to get scan to work. AirPrint works fine. Both devices are running Catalina OS
wish me luck!
Thanks for advice... unfortunately, the driver doesn't seem to work for me. I downloaded the right driver, that actually helped me connect to the printer - but then, once I clicked on "print", a message saying "no destinations have been added to the destination list" appeared.
Hoping you can help me print again .. down on primary computer since 12/18 ... Canon nor Apple support point fingers at each other. Upgraded to Big Sur 11.1, printing to Canon iR-ADV C5250. I reset printing and installed drivers from Canon but when I print pages are blank with ribbon of symbols across header. I have not tried AirPrint or European drivers yet. Also require scanning functionality.
Any suggestions?
thank you!!
I found this article trying to find .icc color profiles for Canon papers. It may not be exactly relevant, but just in case anyone is looking for solving this issue, I found a solution.
After installing the Canon driver for PRO-100, go to /Library/Printers/BJPrinter/Resources/ICCProfiles (in finder, command + shift + g), right click on PRO100series.canonicc, and click on Show Package Contents. Click on Contents, then Resources. The .icc files in the Resources folder are the profiles for Canon papers. You can simply copy all the .icc profiles to Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/Library/ColorSync/Profiles, and you should see the color profiles in your printer system.
Hope this helps!
