M1 Macbook won't read seagate harddrive

I have just unboxed the new M1 Macbook Pro - and found it can not read or mount my seagate external harddrive even with the NTFS for Mac installed. It throws up this error when trying to mount:

Could not mount “A***(ExternalDrive)”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49153.)

Please help as i have no idea how to retrieve important files on my harddrive.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

If your drive has been initialized with seagate Utilities (or straight from the factory) as an Windows New Technology File system (NTFS) drive, it MIGHT be readable with similar Utilities installed in MacOS, PROVIDED they have been upgraded to run under Big Sur.

In every other case, the Driver for that drive does not load automatically, and the Disk Utility driver will not touch it -- it is owned by another Driver. That would be the case when you want to use it in Recovery mode.

Readers here always suggest you IGNORE the manufacturer-provided Utilities and initialize any new Drive with MacOS Disk Utility, so that it can be full usable in all situations.
