iPhone 12 pro max keeps dimming

I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and it constantly dims. I made sure the Automatic button was off, it still dims. I went to answer the phone and it had dimmed itself down to an almost completely dark screen. I am constantly having to reset the brightness back to where I can see the screen. Any "bright" ideas?

So.. I had my apple appointment yesterday, I made sure to video the screen dimming too before I went in, I showed them the videos and explained the issue I was having, to which they admitted was very strange, they said it’s most like software based to which I agreed, but i said, what are you going to do about it, to which they responded, there’s nothing we can do, other than try a screen replacement, so I said go ahead. Now, to do the screen replacement they have to plug the device into a diagnostic machine which will look for a fault and then allow them to do a repair, so they did this, and to both mine and the employees surprised, there were 5 faults with the device! It failed the screen test, the face I.D test, ambient lighting test and two other which I forget, but this meant that they couldn’t do a screen replacement as there were many more issues, so their solution… they straight up replaced my device there and then in the shop! I was gob smacked at this point as usual you’d hear horror stories of how they will blame you and send you away! So far it’s been 24hrs, no screen dim! I’ve even done the things I did before to make it happen, and nothing! So for now, I am happy, I hope this device continues to perform correctly and if I do experience any issues I will be sure to note them here!

my advise, video your issue on another device and head to your nearest apple store!

re iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I've read a lot of these replies....here's one I haven't seen. Look under "Settings; Battery" There's an "Optimized Battery Charging" que with a toggle...turning it off may help "warming" issues while charging, idk.

In the "Battery" que there's also a place to adjust, turn off/on auto brightness. It looks like the area that's in the "Accessibility" que and it may very well be the same adjustment, simply a different way to get to it. Hopefully this helps someone. I realize people may have the dimming issue for different reasons so don't verbally assault me if this isn't your fix. Thx for reading 😊

I just came to Apple store for assistance with this overheat and dimming issue. They suggested me to update to the latest software and if the issue still show up, then they have to try to reset it as a new phone. I don’t know how this would help if it’s the design defect from the phone itself and I have kept up with the software updates usually! The support also mentioned there’s no feedback/ case established from Apple’s support site for this particular issue. Has anyone here tried to report this? We need to make this a case so they seriously address it! I used to have iPhone 6+. They had design issues on the display and they admitted it but all they did was having me pay for ~$150 for another replacement of iPhone 6+ which turned out to have similar display issues… I am very disappointed with their service and not acknowledging the issue to the customers. We paid so much money on the phone and this is what we got in turn for service?

Thank you!

Same problem here. I’ve had this problem going all the way back to iPhone 6. It seems to be considerably worse with my 12 pro max. Even direct sunlight causes it. That is infuriating when flying a drone, for example. It definitely seems to be heat related because when it is charging and I am playing a game or running certain applications I often get the same problem. I’m even thinking of buying some sort of a cooling case to prevent this.

Yes my screen has been getting dim for a while now. It happens all the time under all different circumstances. It’s not from heat. It’s from a conflict of software settings I think. There are so many settings the IPhone 12 Pro Max has that you could never really find them all. They have so many settings that are default settings that are for accessibility and also for software downloads ect that are partially set that even though you dont use there still set. There is probably a conflicting setting somewhere within the phone that the manufacturer overlooked. I’ve always found totally rediculous that they actually turn on some of the features of things that a person would not use unless they were deaf or blind. Under rare instances would a person buy a phone and out of the box be ready to use the BrailleTouch screen or some bizarre feature that allows a person to tap 50 times and the phone reads it as one tap. Why would that be default? If you go into Accessibility there is actually some things turned on. That is so strange I can’t believe it. Many times it has caused me so many problems with my phone. Taking forever to figure out and find what was causing it to act so bizarre only to find out after digging in accessibility where handicapped settings are that that was the cause. Some settings are set by default. It could also be developer menu settings. The developer menu I found once was hidden. You had to go to about phone then tap on that a million times and poof the developer menu appeared! All kinds of settings were in that menu that were available for the phone however only if you could access the menu. There is so many unseen menus like that in phones I can go on and on. I can almost promise it’s a conflict of settings because when it happens it goes up and down in brightness in various increments randomly. Tell tale evidence

Going under::… Settings, Battery, Battery Health & Charging, Turn OFF ‘Clean Energy Charging’. Doing this will fix iPhone screen dimming for good. This also fixes iPhone’s back getting hot. This 100% fixes everything. Keep in mind, having a thick case on your phone is WHAT causes screens to dim & the back getting hot. My screen would dim so dark, it practically blacked out. The back of my phone used to get so hot, I could barley touch it. But this fixed it 100%. Try it, wait a few days, comment back and let me know how it worked for you.
