Loud crackling noise then iPhone 12 shut off

literally just happened to me in class, i was on tiktok and i heard a loud crackle then my whole screen turned black, so beyond unexpected my phone wasn’t hot or anything i didn’t smell burning just very strange my phone seems to be working just fine but wish there were answers on why this happened

Mine just did this tonight! It freaked me out so bad I took it out to the table and won’t touch it. I have a newborn and do not want that near him if it explodes! I’m definitely calling someone about that because it’s scary as ****! Exactly what you described happened to me 5 minutes ago. iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Same thing just happened on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Was typing something into Google on Chrome. Not plugged in, 90% battery. Crackled, looked like confetti (which made me stop for a second and wondered if Culver's knew my birthday is coming up) and then the phone restarted. Have a case so there was no shock. Running iOS 15.4.1 Not hot, either. So far it's running fine again.

This just happened to me as well! Exactly like you described, however I was scrolling on twitter. It rebooted by itself after that but it does not seem to be a full reboot, since all the apps were still open as if I just locked the phone. I have an iphone 12 pro max and I bought it less than a year ago. I am really surprised that apple did not look into this yet. It is an expensive iphone for sure, we should not be having such issues 🙂

This happened to me just now, 2022/May, and it was a loud crackling noise. Like an electrical short for about half a second, the screen was covered in pink boxes over the top of a game I was playing. Then it rebooted. I've turned it off for now...

This just happened to me!! I was scrolling my fyp on tiktok and my phone made this big *CRACKLE* electrical short noise and had purple static like on a tv and shut off. I turned it back on and it seems fine!! My phone battery is 95% and nothing else has happened yet but holy crap did it scare me 😳

I’m just going to reply as well cause I just got a flipping heart attack because of that crap. This is not right. My phone was almost completely charger scrolling through some nice satisfying insta videos and this crap happens…

Just had the same issue and immediately googled it. So no one has come up with an answer yet? It scared the **** out of me considering i had battery and that static noise felt like phone was done for! When someone finds a solution please reply.

Saaaaame. Ugh. It happened today to my iPhone 12 Pro, about 4 months old. Was on weather app and CRACKLE BUZZ REBOOT. No weird colors/pixelation and it came

back up almost immediately. No issues since but totally bizarre. Sounds like a non-issue?

Same thing just happened to me. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max, bought on the day it was released, so not quite 2 yrs old. I was playing an app. Same as all others, staticky, crackling noise followed by reboot. Amazing Apple not addressing this thread as so many have experienced that problem.

Exact same thing happens to me I was also on tik tok scrolling when my phone cracked then shut off and little confetti like purple things came in my screen near the charging port side of my phone I have a iPhone 12 and have had it for about a year and months. I can’t help but think this is due to my storage being full but I’m not sure.

This is the second iPhone 12 mini I’ve had but the first time this has happened. I was on the phone with my partner and playing sudoku. Phone not hot. Phone on charger. About to go to bed, went to speak, phone made the LOUD noise, gave me multicolored confetti glitches, froze, then shut off. Honestly sounded like the hacking sound effects in movies. Hey Apple, funny how you haven’t answered this thread.

i had the same issue was scrolling through Facebook and you get sub videos from Tim Tok usually 3-4, the video if it makes any details was of a guy opening a basket with an unsustainable lizard in it then my phone made a fizzle electrocution sound and then the video had a cracked blue glaze and the phone when blank and turned off

I am not entirely sure it was a technical fault rather than someone gaining or hacking my phone love to hear from Apple what it is

This just happened to me too. I was in the middle of crushing a level on candy crush saga, made loud crackling noise, purple/blue pixels, shut off and rebooted. startled the crap out of me. had this phone since feb of last year and its never happened before. (Pro Max model)
