M1 MacBook Air with external monitor crashes when sleeping

I've gotten several crashes this way. Almost every time I let my MacBook sleep while connected to the monitor. Here's an excerpt of the crash dump:

Just another follow-up:

I set my M1 power saving settings to default now (turning off the display after 15 minutes and allowing the computer to put the laptop to sleep when the display is off).

I actually tested this by setting it to 1 minute and walking away for 2 hours. Came back after dinner, computer was on the lock screen but had not crashed. (this was the expected behavior)

So, again, setting the DP port on the monitor for the Thunderbolt input to DP 1.2 seems to have resolved the issue for me as well. I still have the it set to DP 1.4 on the standard DP input port on the monitor, which is connected to my PC.

I am having the similar issue.

Both M1 MacBook Pro and M1 MacBook Air suddenly crash and reboot itself during normal use (not from Sleeping mode) with an external Acer monitor connected through a hub. The M1 MBP crashes more often than the M1 MBA. So, I returned MBP.

In addition, after wakening from Sleeping mode, the mouse cursor on the display of MBP or MBA often points to very different location than the mouse cursor on the external monitor. It is very confusing.

Very disappointed with the defects of M1 MacBook!

therighttread - you describe my issue exactly. I posted to this earlier with the issue, as well as others, and ended up wiping the M1 MBP and starting over. I brought over files from a backup but started fresh with settings and applications. I am using a dock to connect various devices, including an external monitor, and still have it rebooting at night, a few days a week. It is not every day like you mentioned.

I have a 2017 MBP that was used before this running 11.1 and essentially all of the same applications. If I plug that into the dock and monitor it will never reboot unless I do it myself. The issue is with the M1 machine and I cannot believe it is an application that is causing this. I updated the M1 to 11.2 and am still experiencing the issue. It is hard for me to believe that Apple has yet to reproduce this or acknowledge the issue given the many threads here and elsewhere online.

I have also updated as well. I saw a post where someone said that if you have it sleep at night with the old-fashioned charger, it may stop the issue. I'm trying it this evening. Because it is sporadic (it's been three days since the last crash) and happens at the same time-- consistently, I'm perplexed.. I'm not happy about having to wipe my mac clean and start over with slow merging onto my computer, which I need for work 7 day/week.

I'm guessing that the panic caller id is going to have a different specific address, but it's the same... see my message post from 1/19 (this is the same panic I keep getting, but different cpu caller address).

RTKit, Mailbox, Inbox, Outbox, all remain consistent in the panic, although not really sure what those are in reference to...

Oh, for what it's worth, when I first received the M1, I was connected via KVM to an LG 34 inch monitor over HDMI (via an Anker usb-c dock). I did NOT get a panic crash overnight with this configuration.

This started happening when I got my LG 38WN95C-W and I connected via TB3 to the monitor. I also tried via a ConnectPro KVM <=> DVI <=> (various CalDigit docks).

Just to add my experience to the thread, my MacBook Air purchased in October 2020 crashes often when plugged into a Dell external monitor. The monitor's HDMI cord is plugged into an adapter, which is plugged into the lightning port on the computer. Super frustrating issue and really limits what I can do working from home with one little laptop screen. Not sure if it would fix the issue if I purchased a newer monitor or one that connects directly to the computer, but it seems like an expensive fix for a new computer.

The error I get is "Intel CrashLog recorded due to unexpected reset" when I turn my computer back on. Wasted hours on the phone with Apple and after taking it into them for 5 days to get fixed (and working off a 7 year old PC in the meantime with no issues). They told me it was a corrupt application on my computer so they wiped and reinstalled everything. Within 20 minutes of using it again, the system crashed again.
