New M1 MacBook Air keeps crashing and freezing... I can't force quit as the keyboard becomes unresponsive.
Help!
Anyone else out there struggling with this?
I keep checking for system updates but nothing yet...

Erased and reinstalled OS at last 10
times. Apple sent it off for repairs twice. They couldn’t find any issues but still replaced logic board and touchpad both times. It still came back with same problems of freezing as soon as I used keyboard or touchpad. I was without a usable machine for almost two months from I bought it new. Spent many hours on phone with Apple support who didn’t have a clue and passed me around, often never getting back to me. They constantly refused to exchange it even though it was obvious the machine was a dud. Eventually they relented and I finally got a replacement. It works fine just as it should. And that was on 11.1 I remain convinced it was a hardware issue.
out of the small bugs I have reported, the M1 works great, I use it for machine learning, TensorFlow, keras ,... and it beat even my HP OMEN NVIDIA powered with CUDA ... this machine is just a beast ... so couple of small issues, more linked with stability of the OS on this new platform ... but the platform is great ... just need a little more patience :)
discovering that M1 does not offer GPU acceleration for pytorch + a couple of crash today was a sign that the story is over... I returned the macbook and bought an asus zephyrus to continue working on ML... eh, Apple !, I thought the M1 was made for us, data-scientists... but how can you run ML/RL without proper gpu support and computer not able to work for a couple of hours without crashing...
Its driving me nuts. Had the MacBook Air M1 for 2months. Was really fast at the start and then slows up and freezes/ crashes daily. Cant pinpoint any particular action and/or software that causes it.
Reinstalled Big Sur and that looked like it fixed it but still is a daily crash. I am giving another try otherwise its going back and Ill get an intel
fully agree, not acceptable to release a product with so much bug for this price, especially when you compare what you get on the PC side for this price, I am not a big fan of Windows, but since I return my macbook pro and got an Asus Zephyrus G15 for the same price, it never crashed and the GPU is far better even with tensorflow...
I thought it's just me. I just got my MacBook Air (M1,2020) too and it's just almost 2 weeks old. Even if there's not much apps running or opened tabs in safari, my MacBook just freezes (the beachball appears) and the app becomes unresponsive. I can still force quit tho (command+option+esc) but I'm worried that it happened to me thrice. What should I do??
M1 purchased Feb 2021 crashed 2 times today (April 2021). One crash at 5PM and the next at 6PM. The computer is slow. I use Lightroom and Premiere regularly. My 2014 Pro was just fine. Should have just kept it until the next iteration of this laptop comes out. Wait, is my advice.
Same issue. They just replaced my logic board, USB C port (stopped working) and touch ID. Picked it up from the store and it froze on the first go when I got home. Regret purchasing an M1 this early on and quite disappointed in Apple's response. I appreciate their willingness to find solutions, but it doesn't make using a laptop for school and work any easier.
Yes I am so disappointed with my new Mac - my 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch was the best - no problems and lasted me for 9 years - how sad I am to have saved to spend on a new device simply because I could not get the latest updates - otherwise my computer was working fine and only went to apple once to give it a spruce up. I rely on my computer for everything. I will consider buying my son a Microsoft product and never buy apple again. Not worth the price I have paid to be so disappointed with such a flimsy product and Note ***. what happened to Word? I am not a computer nerd - just an older gen with no tech savvy. Apple really used to work for me. It is now just an expensive brand name. There are no more good Apples in the world anymore - Apple used to be my pride and joy, now it has turned into a self centred money making pretty on the outside crap on the inside product
Avoiding third party software sounds nice but it is not an option. One might hate MS Office, but it should just work without freezing. Safari should not freeze either.
The freezing is not due to too many applications running at the same time or a lack of memory.

I have the same issue. Unresponsive apps (Chrome, iTunes/Music, finder, Whatsapp for no apparent reason. Happens at least once a day.
Currently running 11.6 has anyone had a positive experience with Monterey on a 2020 Air?
I'm having the same problem. I already called apple support, did all that they asked, and nothing.... Now the told me that I need to send my MacBook to an apple facility....

all i read here is users problems with the M1 MacBook air.
I started up in Safe Mode (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201262) and there was no issue anymore. I have since restarted and the issue has gone. Hope that works for you too!
We thought it was an issue with the 8g but we are having the same problem with the 16h
