iPhone 12 can’t speak on phone calls

Hello I was just wondering how to fix my iPhone 12 max not working for phone calls. When I get a call or call other people they can’t hear me. They can only hear me when I go on speaker phone. Last night I turned off noise canceling setting and it started working and today it just doesn’t make a sound. It only works when I’m on speaker phone. I don’t think the microphone is broken because I’m able to use voice memo with no problem. And this phone is brand new. Not even a week old.

This is happening to me as well. Sometimes the microphone doesn't work from the beginning of the call and sometimes it stops working in the middle of the call. I can always hear the person on the other end. Speaker phone mode always works.

I am also having this issue. My SO tells me to put on a Bluetooth and that he can only hear me when I use a Bluetooth. If I try to use the speaker option at all, the person on the other end instantly cannot hear me. I am told it sounds like a robot, or like I’m muffled and far away. Video recording and all are perfectly clear, but no luck on the speaker option during calls.

Similar issue here - no audio on some calls, regardless of which audio output I use, including external bluetooth devices. But then works fine when using other applications. Reseting the phone does resolve the issue, but shouldnt need to reset my phone to take a call.

I was first thinking it may be related to the fact I’m using Dual Sim, but not sure if anyone else is m

This has happened to me as well. I have worked with Apple support multiple times. It takes about a week to start, but then it will continue to happen at greater frequencies. I eventually get to the point that I have to have a Bluetooth device to answer calls with any reliability, but eventually this too will stop working fully. I have made sure that my waterproof case is not the cause, and worked with Verizon to ensure that it is not a signal issue. I am on my third phone. If I have to replace it again I will ask for a new model.

Hi, Guys! I have been having the same issues with my iphone12 pro. It is less than a month old and whenever I call someone, they cannot hear me but I can hear them clearly. I Checked the mics they’re all working properly I even ran a diagnostic test and it all is pretty normal. Have had it troubleshooted on my end, I also tried escalating it in the apple support team but all were not helpful.

However, my husband and I figured out the answer to this COMMON PROBLEM.

I didn’t know that when calling someone, your DATA should be off. Probably, it’s because it’s interrupting the signal? But it worked for me. Usually, I use my data and it’s always ON. And I didn’t realize that until my husband tried to call me while he’s next to me. Now, I am happy my phone is totally working and the caller hears me now whenever he calls. Give me a feedback if it works for you, too.

I have fix this on my phone! I was having the exact same problem with my iPhone 12. I live in a rural area and none of the local towers support 5G. I cannot make a phone call without it resulting in a dropped call. I could hear the other person saying “hello? Hello?“ Then the car would drop. I assumed that the call was dropping and I was no longer able to send my voice, and I was still able to receive their’s for a few seconds.

To fix this on my phone, I went to Settings, Cellular, Cellular data options, Voice and data. Then selected LTE. I previously had to sit to 5G auto.

I have been working from home and I rely on my phone for everything. After switching to LTE, I have not had a dropped call or audio problem in the past four days.

I’m having the same problems of other callers not hearing me during a call. And it does seem to be getting worse as I use my air pods more. I tried resetting to factory default and that didn’t work either. Nothing seems to work. Apple said that maybe it was my SIM card or the line. I’m going to try changing to a different SIM card but first I’m going to stay off my air pods. Bluetooth is off!

I can say I have done this exact list of actions more than one on all the phones I have had, and also did a reset and set up without a backup with absolutely no change. I have found that speaker works most of the time, but like all phones if I am on speaker and they are as well, we have issues. Bluetooth usually works as a patch for a while, but will eventually have the same issues. Just ideas through which I have worked since. December.

I have iPhone 12 mini. Its now August and all seems now OK (although still have glitches making calls on car Tom Tom - bluetooth). I had had this 'no sound on random calls' problem earlier in the year. I am in Melbourne Australia. I took the phone to my carrier. Reset network settings, changeover SIM etc . Problem still came back a week or two later. At the Apple store a technician was able to confirm the fault when I rang him there! He said they received 2 or 3 a day with the sound dropouts. So they know about this issue. Since May /June there have been no problems and I presumed that software upgrades had dealt with it. Just wish apple had been more honest revealing the fault and the fix if it has happened. Will keep my eye on this thread.
