iPhone 12 can’t speak on phone calls

Hello I was just wondering how to fix my iPhone 12 max not working for phone calls. When I get a call or call other people they can’t hear me. They can only hear me when I go on speaker phone. Last night I turned off noise canceling setting and it started working and today it just doesn’t make a sound. It only works when I’m on speaker phone. I don’t think the microphone is broken because I’m able to use voice memo with no problem. And this phone is brand new. Not even a week old.

I had the same exact problem!! I called Apple and they set me up with an appointment at Mac solutions plus. Turns out my glass screen protector was on wrong and the cutout part was at the bottom not the top where it should be! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I can hear perfectly now that it is on correctly. I would recommend double checking that!

Similar issue here - no audio on some calls, regardless of which audio output I use, including external bluetooth devices. But then works fine when using other applications. Reseting the phone does resolve the issue, but shouldnt need to reset my phone to take a call.

I was first thinking it may be related to the fact I’m using Dual Sim, but not sure if anyone else is m

I’m having the same problems of other callers not hearing me during a call. And it does seem to be getting worse as I use my air pods more. I tried resetting to factory default and that didn’t work either. Nothing seems to work. Apple said that maybe it was my SIM card or the line. I’m going to try changing to a different SIM card but first I’m going to stay off my air pods. Bluetooth is off!

I have iPhone 12 mini. Its now August and all seems now OK (although still have glitches making calls on car Tom Tom - bluetooth). I had had this 'no sound on random calls' problem earlier in the year. I am in Melbourne Australia. I took the phone to my carrier. Reset network settings, changeover SIM etc . Problem still came back a week or two later. At the Apple store a technician was able to confirm the fault when I rang him there! He said they received 2 or 3 a day with the sound dropouts. So they know about this issue. Since May /June there have been no problems and I presumed that software upgrades had dealt with it. Just wish apple had been more honest revealing the fault and the fix if it has happened. Will keep my eye on this thread.

We have 3 iPhone 12’s in our household as well. Same problem. T-Mobile blames Apple, Apple blames T-Mobile. All we know and keep saying is we have to use my son’s iPhone 6 to make calls so people can hear us. My opinion is the software has an issue. A reset makes it work ok for a bit, but we also have to reset our vm every time we restart as it resets too. Bad experience so far from the iPhone 12.

I have the same problem. I got my iPhone 12 in April 2021, and at the same time switched from AT&T to Xfinity. I can always hear the other person but they can’t always hear me. We can be talking and they hear me okay then they tell me I’m breaking up, and then they don’t hear me at all. This has happened with phone calls and FaceTime. Xfinity couldn’t figure out the problem, so got Verizon involved saying it was probably a network problem, but Verizon says everything is okay. Xfinity said go to Apple store which I did. Apple tested and said it’s okay, it’s a network problem. They also said they never heard of this problem. After reading this forum now I know it’s not true, it’s an Apple iPhone 12 defect. I was considering switching to another network before reading the other complaints, but I guess the real solution is switching to a non-Apple phone. I was thinking maybe trade up to iPhone 13 even if it costs a lot to change after 6 months, but now I don’t feel confident Apple has this problem resolved and they are not standing by their product. This was my 3rd iPhone. I will be warning all my friends and family about the risk of the new phones.

i have the same issue on the 12 Pro Max,

but mine’s a bit different - the recipient of my calls cant hear me but hear machine gun sounds which is strange!

im on esim, but I’ve changed and tried another carrier’s physical sim and both reacts the same. So i think it rules our carrier issues. No issues on speakerphone , as they can hear me loud and clear (machine gun noises disappear)

Others apps such as WhatsApp also works perfectly fine.

Well I have sort of a mix of everything said above... and I am sick of factory resetting iPhones when they are newly released each year. I have tons of apps, music pictures etc and dealing with all that takes days.

I think Apple should stick with making solid software instead of working on very stupid emoji etc. updates.

before anyone tells me otherwise, I am an Apple user since 1997, have all my computers etc. all apple. And I have been using iphone since 2007 after the introduction of the first one.
