Iphone 12 volume buttons not functionning

I have noticed that after using my iphone 12 to control music on my homepod mini, my volume buttons won't work on any application (phone, netflix...). They will only control the homepod mini even if this one is not playing.

In order to get the buttons back I need to restart the iphone.

Is ther a fix?

Thanks

Well now I have say the update did NOT solve the problem.

Unfortunately it happened again yesterday.

As soon as you use the iPhone to control the Homepod it swithches the volume control buttons of the iPhone to control the Homepods and it never comes back to controlling the iPhone 😤

This is happening to me and it’s driving me crazy. If I have a call on speaker or using music on my phone speaker I cannot control it with my side buttons. Same if I have headphones plugged in. I haven’t used my HomePod in days and it’s still doing this. Honesty this HomePod is infuriating. It won’t work properly on my mesh system. If I’m near it and I ask Siri to do something, it defaults to going to the HomePod and then says it can’t do the task I ask because it needs permission or something and I have to cancel and just manually use my phone instead. Literally such garbage integration I’m so disappointed for such a pricey product.

I also can’t get shortcuts to work properly on our Apple TV.

it could be so good. But it’s so broken.

Yep same here too. Suggest everyone make sure they report it as a bug using the Apple online bug reporting tool.

The worse part is when you actually HAVE music playing through your HomePod when you go to restart your iPhone - considering you have to hold the lock and VOLUME UP buttons at the same time, then your iPhone's off and you now have no way of turning down your incredibly loud music if you're not within earshot of the HomePod (say, if you're in bed and it's the middle of the night and the HomePod is in the lounge......... and you have neighbours........

I was in bed and the volume buttons weren't working. Thought it was this problem, so I started the music downstairs on low volume (just enough to faintly hear the base) and started using the volume buttons to double check they were actually working, just for the wrong device. Then I tried restarting my iPhone and suddenly had to RUN downstairs.

Please fix this Apple! Pretty crippling bug.

least invasive fix, for now, seems to be removing HomePods from the home app, force restart the iPhone( that means: click volume up button, click volume down button, then hold side power button until screen blacks out and apple logo returns, then release). This will solve the issue. Then you can re-setup the homepods. Until software can be updated I believe this is the easiest way, no need to restore a phone.

I’ve had the same issue on my iPhone XS. Thought maybe my volume rocker was broken. But, I Just got an iPhone 12 Pro yesterday and still having issues with this.

I just discovered that the Hompod from my living room is toggled in the control center, even when I’m away from home. That may have something to do with it.. So far the only thing that helps is restarting my phone. Any other suggestions?

So I was having the same issue where my HP mini would steal my volume control so just did what someone said and removed my HP mini from my home app, force restarted my phone, and set up my HP mini afterward. I tested handing off music to the HP and my iPhone 12 controls HP’s volume while inside the music app but as soon as I leave the app it reverts back to my phone sound. Same result if I airplay to HP from iPhone. Seems like it’s been solved for now but we’ll see.

I think I've found the fix for this issue, it only been a few hours now but I've managed to retain control of sound on my phone while still being able to use the speaker. Done a couple of handovers and it's still been normal functionality.

Issue seems to be around the 'recognise my voice' function. Once I restarted my phone then turned that function off it seems I haven't had the issue.

I've tried a few of the things suggested in here none have worked for as long as this test so hoping it's actually a fix.
