VHS to iMove to DVD

I have old VHS-CD player recorder. I used VIDBOX to import VHS to iMovie on my macOS Catalina 10.15.7. What is the best way to get the finished iMovie Mp4 onto a dvd or thumb drive? What equipment would I need?

You would get an insufficient space message if your thumb drive were formatted FAT 32, a windows format, and your movie exceeded 4GB. That format has a 4GB limitation on any file size, even though the drive is 64GB. To find out the drive's format, control-click on the thumb drive's icon and click on Get Info from the drop down menu that appears. You will see an information box. Check what the format of the drive is. If it is FAT 32 then use the Disk Utility app on your Mac to reformat it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Or, if you intend to use the drive in a Windows machine as well as an Apple machine, format it ExFAT. Now see if your movie will fit on the drive.

NOTE: Reformatting a drive erases all data on it, so first back up any data that you want to save.

As for an external burner that works with iMac, take a look at this thread for helpful information, particularly Batman-15's post toward the end.

Hi,

Share your iMovie project to your desktop as a video file. Then you can drag the video file into a thumb drive. Or you can drag it into a DVD authoring program, like Titanium Toast or DVD Creator, if you want to play it as a movie with menus and and a theme. If you just want to store the movie file as data, you can use the burn program on your Mac. Go to the finder Help menu and type in Burn CDs and DVDs on a Mac. You will get instructions on how to use the burn program. You would need to have an internal or external DVD burner and some standard DVD-r discs.
