Iphone 12 display causing headache and eye strain

Hello everyone,

as a person who suffers from the occasional migrane (once or twice a year), I have been having severe migranes for the past month and was hospitalised last week. I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what was triggering them. Only after being discharged and feeling the symptoms only when using my new iPhone 12, did I make the connection.

I bought an iPhone 12 around a month ago. The same time as the migranes started getting worse and more frequent.

I have an iPhone 7plus and an iPad Pro which I have been using regularly these past few days without problem. I start feeling sick again, the moment I look at my iPhone 12.

This has affected me deeply as well. I couldn't avoid the issue because screens are a big part of my life. That said, it's great there is a community, though scattered, of people that have very similar issues. Please do submit your feedback to apple though. It may find its' way to those that can address it if enough of us give our legitimate complaints.

I don't know for sure, but I don't believe I am affected by PWM, or not that much. That's why I'm looking into dithering.

The sad thing is it seems many popular phones are using Samsung displays for their phones. If I have to go to another OS until an iPhone becomes suitable again (after my current iPhone dies), Sony may be an option. I believe they do their own panels.

Had iPhones from i4 to i12pro never any issue , since I got I 12 pro terrible headaches -eye doctor , glasses 1800 bucks , still terrible headaches and can feel the strain as soon as I begin reading anything on I 12 pro - never an issue on any other iPhone - what’s up apple ? Can u trade this phone out for something less painful?

Hey, using my iPhone 12 for 2 weeks and having same issues, mostly headache, dissiness aftee short use of the phone. Never had this before with other OLED displays...

Then get a Samsung deice.

Kirk, shooing this issue away doesn't make it disappear. It's a thing. It's real for some of us. And it's highly unlikely that many of us loyal Apple fans suddenly have ophthalmological diseases.

Nope. Nothing to do with True Tone.

It's the refresh rate of OLED displays.

It’s f*cking temporal dithering! Stop using it Apple...please!

The “flickering and tinting” issue is not related to PWM. It’s referring to the raised blacks and yellow tint users are/were experiencing. We won’t see a refresh rate increase or fix for PWM flickering. That’s working as designed.

I have been using iPhone 12 pro for a month and half now and have noticed this. Weird headaches that goes from my eye socket to the skull! I have never had such problems before which made google iphone 12 headache and I saw this! I still have my iPhoneX and when I use that the problem goes away. Really weird and annoying! I hope apple can come up with a firmware update that corrects this.

iPhone 12 pro max after only 5 mins of usage eye strain and dry, and headaches. This does not happen on iphone 7 plus that i use for 4 years now.

Can Apple fix the problem or I should try to sell the phone? Or can I return it after 2 month?

I bought an iPhone 12 Pro five days ago and get headache and eye strain within one minute of use. I’m so disappointed! I’ve been trying different brightness and white point settings to alleviate the problem but nothing seems to help. Is there any solution other than returning the phone?
