iphone 12 pro screen cracking

Is anyone else experiencing their iPhone 12 Pro screen cracking for no apparent reason? I am on my 3rd iPhone 12 Pro because my first two developed screen cracks within 2 weeks of using. Apple swapped out both phone so it didn't cost me anything other than hassle but I can't imagine Apple will continue to swap out my iPhone into perpetuity. I've used iPhones for 13 years and never had a screen crack or chip. I've never had an extended warranty because I've never had a repair. I always use the Apple leather case and I work in an office. iPhone was not dropped. Cracks just showed up. Also, this has happened to my wife, son and daughter as well. One son's iPhone 12 Pro has not cracked.

Trust you on that, but many have reported that they initially felt that this happened because of their own fault. This particular problem that starts showing up from nowhere is definitely a defect and it does not matter how tiny the % is, Apple should pay attention. The CEO stands up on the podium and claim that Apple makes the best quality product that is solid and proud of their customer support. Reality is different.

Why even have this forum then? And why is the forum called “Apple Support Communities”? And why do you feel so hurt when people come to this community for support on their Apple products? Why do you feel the need to tell people what they should ask this community, of fellow Apple users?

I came here for community support and to see if I was all alone. I was not. And I got good intel from my fellow community members.

I also got a lecture from the person on the street in their rocking chair poking their nose into others business and providing no useful information. I feel sorry for that person. It can be lonely sometimes. Know that you are loved and understood. But know that people will stay away from you and talk about you at neighborhood picnics that you are not invited too. But you watch from your kitchen window. And you drink your gin. You could be part of the fun if you wanted to. You could be a part of the solution. If you wanted to. It’s actually very easy. I hope you get the help you need. I want to see you at the picnic.

Hi Bullshark1, Thanks for the post. I took it to Apple Store and their answer "This is cosmetic", I spoke to the store manager but no response. I am curious did Apple fixed for you because you have Apple care+?

The point is that this is a product defect and given that more buyers have experienced it, Apple should recognize and do something about the defect.

We are not here to bash Apple but more like make them aware but it looks like Apple has become too big to worry about customers.

I am sorry, deemed was what I meant to type but seemed was what my iPhone determined was what I typed.

This is exactly what I meant about screen savers. I would believe millions of dollars are put into designs of touch screens . Everyone has experienced typing errors and words inserted that were not meant to be. I have it happen enough without screen protectors, thus I choose to use the phone as designed. I do keep my phone in a leather Ridge case which holds a couple credit cards and makes it very handy to avoid always pulling a wallet out of my pocket. I mainly keep it in a case because it is protecting the camera lenses that protrude from the camera with no protection. That design makes me wonder why they didn’t provide better protection when they engineered it.

My last thought on “cosmetic “ is, will they guarantee you phone is still waterproof as originally designed .

If I drop my phone, it slides across the console and lands on the floor or the dog knocks it off the armrest, that’s what I bought the apple care for. If it sits on a table and for no apparent reason has a hairline crack develop I feel it is a defect. As much as I believe in Apple and their products I also know that everything is subjected to flaws, that’s why quality control is used in manufacturing processes.

iPhone has never been designed or promoted as waterproof. Apple specifically says iPhone is "Water Resistant." That's a significant difference. And the water rating they publish in the specifications page comes from testing the phone in laboratory controlled settings, not in the real world. If you drop your phone in water and it becomes damaged from liquid intrusion, it will not be covered under warranty.

From Apple's iPhone warranty page:

This Warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (c) to damage caused by use with a third party component or product that does not meet the Apple Product’s specifications (Apple Product specifications are available at www.apple.com under the technical specifications for each product and also available in stores); (d) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, fire, liquid contact, earthquake or other external cause; (e) to damage caused by operating the Apple Product outside Apple’s published guidelines; (f) to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”); (g) to an Apple Product that has been modified to alter functionality or capability without the written permission of Apple; (h) to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of the Apple Product; (i) if any serial number has been removed or defaced from the Apple Product; or (j) if Apple receives information from relevant public authorities that the product has been stolen or if you are unable to deactivate passcode-enabled or other security measures designed to prevent unauthorized access to the Apple Product, and you cannot prove in any way that you are the authorized user of the product (eg. by presenting proof of purchase).

Good Morning Lobsterghost,

So, I stand corrected on using the term Waterproof . It is my understanding and please correct me if I am wrong, that the iPhone 12’s meet IP68 rating which means it can survive up to 19.6 feet (6 meters) of water for 30 minutes. Is that incorrect ?

Also, as far as cosmetic damage , is the screen designed to diminish its surface in time?

I am not trying to argue but merely asking you these questions for information purposes . I honestly bought the iPhone 12pro because of its water resistance due to the fact I am on or near the water a lot. Have I been under a misconception that I don’t have to run and put my phone in a safe place when the first raindrop falls.

Thanks for providing that warranty. I will need to pay much better attention on my next purchase.

Hello Again,

As per ,

This Warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship;

This statement can be applied to the screen ? So I guess we just have to live with some advertising and promotions that may not be as good as first thought. That seems disappointing to say the least. These phones have gotten so ridiculously expense to buy and buy service that it kinda makes one wonder why we even keep going back for more. I think this one taught me a lesson about truth in advertising so I guess buyer beware and always look at the small print .

Enjoy

I thought I was tripping for having a scratch on my 12 pro but after seeing this I don’t feel so bad. Have a crack on the back side, but you can’t feel it with your fingers. It’s below the first layer. Never dropped the phone. Only have had it for a month. I have an otter box case on it too. No idea how this crack formed

It is amazing how these beautiful, water resistant, practically unbreakable new revolution in iPhones have mysterious cracks in them and are out of warranty if they have water intrusion. I am under the impression though that if it was a real problem with this 12pro model there would be a swarm more of complaints. Since it is relatively impossible to see any human being without a phone in their hands it seems strange they would ever have time to break or crack. I have to become sarcastic about this whole issue because there just isn't enough traffic on this post to justify a real issue, we have been informed. Good luck with the crack.

If you call apple they will tell you to take it to an apple store. It will then, as you have found out be subject to one authoritarian’s judgement . Good luck, these phones have become so expensive it makes you sick when they have an issue. The price is what the buyer will bear so maybe if we all held out a couple of years they would get the message . Guess what? It is not going to happen, it is an addition and we all have it. Who knew?

I have done my share of ******** and last night I dropped my iPhone 12 Pro from waist high on concrete . I have it in a Ridge leather case that has pockets for credit cards etc. I do not have a screen cover and I was delighted that screen or no where else displays any signs of damage . This particular case is not advertised to be protective but basically useful . I was lucky this time.
