iphone 12 pro screen cracking

Is anyone else experiencing their iPhone 12 Pro screen cracking for no apparent reason? I am on my 3rd iPhone 12 Pro because my first two developed screen cracks within 2 weeks of using. Apple swapped out both phone so it didn't cost me anything other than hassle but I can't imagine Apple will continue to swap out my iPhone into perpetuity. I've used iPhones for 13 years and never had a screen crack or chip. I've never had an extended warranty because I've never had a repair. I always use the Apple leather case and I work in an office. iPhone was not dropped. Cracks just showed up. Also, this has happened to my wife, son and daughter as well. One son's iPhone 12 Pro has not cracked.

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

I'm sure the posters know the difference between and scratch and a crack.

My wife just noticed a crack on her new 3 week old iphone 12. The crack can be clearly traced to a small chip on the top edge of the screen. She's been an iphone owner for at least 10 years and never had a crack on any of her phones. Three weeks in a with a new phone and its cracked? Others are complaining as well? Sounds like there may be an issue here.

If it was loose inside your wife's purse, there's no telling what might have happened to it. Whether you get another iPhone or any phone for that matter, you might want to get your wife something like this to keep the phone in when it's in her purse:

https://www.amazon.com/XRPow-Wallet-Case-iPhone-Pro/dp/B08H8BPW74/ref=sr_1_42?dchild=1&keywords=iphone+12+pro+max+zipper+case&qid=1612059918&sr=8-42

This would protect the screen from coming in contact with anything when being jostled in a purse.

The same thing happened to me. The rear glass cracked for no apparent reason. I have not dropped it and even if I had the cover is still intact. Not a scratch. The back just one day started cracking. Very poor quality. I have had 4 iPhones and never had a single scratch on them. I am beyond careful with my phone. This has to be a manufacturing problem. Apple said that a lot of people have complained, but not enough for them to do something about it. So so disappointed!!!

Well well well... I took my iPhone 12 Pro Max to the Apple store to have the screen replacement done. I asked the gentleman checking out my phone about cracked screen issues coming out of nowhere if there was an issue. He looked me in the eyes and said no sir nothing wide spread to report that Apple is aware of. Furthermore he stated it’s a good thing you have Apple care or this replacement would cost 300.00 I believe he quoted. I’m have the T-Mobile jump program so when my phone is 50% paid off I can turn it in and trade to a new phone. I’m going back to Samsung /Galaxy s21 ultra 5G (better phone and camera too thank you

Yes, I made phone call and screen was fine. I closed it in it’s heavy leather wallet case, went to the store (set phone closed in case, in console holder of truck) 10 minutes later when I was back home and opened it, there’s a spider web looking crack just below the speaker. I did not drop it, sit on it, or bang it into anything. I treat it like a baby. So disappointing :(

Yup mine just cracked outta nowhere. Me alone in the room in COMPLETE silence. Suddenly I heard a high pitched pop kinda like a really small bubble with bubble gum and I was like wtf was that I looked at my phone to check the time and my freakin screen has two cracks **** near the length of the whole phone. No ********. If I’m lying’ I’m dying

I chatted with the Apple help people and they will not admit mine could have been from a manufacturing defect of the front glass. So disappointed because mine is always in heavy duty leather wallet case (screen protected). It happened between making a phone call to a store then going to the store than coming back home 15 mins later. After I made the call it was protected in its case, in my lose coat pocket and in my truck console. Definitely not dropped or sat on. I have no friggin’ idea how it could have possibly happened during that time. They want me to spend $429+tx CDN to fix it!

I purchased an iPhone 12 pro on Thursday, May 6th at the local AT&T store in Boulder, CO. I was given the phone in the original shrink wrap (unopened) and told to take it home and transfer the data myself. I took the phone home and started the data transfer when I noticed that the screen was cracked on the phone. The next day, Friday, I took the phone back to the store and asked to have it exchanged under the fourteen day customer satisfaction guarantee. I was told that the phone could not be exchanged because it was damaged. After numerous trips back and forth the to the store and numerous calls to the AT&T loyalty department, I was told that my only option was to take the phone to a repair shop and pay the $29.00 to have the screen replaced. I was also told (by the AT&T store manager) that they had never heard of problems with iPhone 12 pro screens cracking on their own, which seems not to be true. I am continuing to work on having this phone replaced because I have been sold defective merchandise, but I want my name added to the list of people who have experienced this problem. Apple has a problem here and they need to step up, own it and fix it.

My appointment was virtual, since we’re in lockdown here in ON, Canada. I sent a pic of my unexplained screen crack and they basically told me that type of damage is not covered under their 1yr limited warranty so I’d have to pay $429cdn +tax to fix it. Sooooo disappointed since I did not cause the damage and that is a lot of money for just a screen :( I thought the iPhone 12 Pro Max was supposed to be next to indestructible but it somehow cracked without being dropped, sat on or banged on after only 5 months :(

These phones were probably manufactured during the beginning of the pandemic and possibly not as much quality control was performed? I think as time goes on many others may notice tiny hairline cracks .

I had a screen jitter issue with an iPhone 10 which eventually was discovered by apple and they issued a free repair and replacement of screen and module probably because of forums like this .

Yes, I have had the same issue....my past iPhones were absolutely fine for many years without any cracks nor scratches. Had to replace my wonderful iPhone 7 with a 12, and it cracked and chipped immediately very badly. INCREDIBLY annoying. There is obviously an issue here, seeing all of the other people who have had similar experiences. Apple needs to do something for us. This is a defect in the phone that needs to be addressed.

The only way to get Apple's attention is to take one's phone to Apple directly and show it to them. Posting here get's the sympathy of other users, but that doesn't really help much.

And the reality is pre-iPhone 12, the number of posts about cracked screens was far more prevalent than now with iPhone 12. Still doesn't make it better if one has a cracked screen on their phone, but, and I'm guessing, based on the total lack of threads on cracked or broken screens here, the numbers of people with this issue are far fewer than ever before.

But lobsterghost, the cracks I have experienced on my two iPhone 12 pros have both been like a typical stress crack. Both originated from the edge and both were on the left side below the volume button. Both were extremely hard to see. I would bet most people couldn’t see it. Actually the first phone I sent back was returned no problem found . It took photos and phone calls to explain. Many many users probably would not clean and inspect their phones to the same degree I do. I haven’t yet done anything with the second phone because I want apple to have time to see if there is possible a product defect in time. If not, I most have been the unluckiest person around. I have been one of the biggest supporters of apple products because of their quality and durability. My MacBook Pro is over five years old with absolutely no issues. It is parked on top of a pile of Windows operating PCs which have been nothing but trouble. I have a pile of Nokia phones that worked perfect but had an unrepairable charger port defect . When I switched to apple I went from a 6 to a ten to a 12. The 10 developed a screen flicker issue which was fixed and was covered by a factory bulletin. That was sometimes hard to reproduce but I was able to provide apple with videos of the phone at the time it was acting up. That problem

rendered the 10 useless when it occurred . So my iPad, iPad Pro, iPod, iPhone 6, and macbook pro have been flawless. The iPhone 10 & 12 have had some issues.

I am a believer that Apple makes a tremendous product as well as has excellent service. Unfortunately in this unsettled world the apple store near me is nestled in an area that I feel has become unsafe to visit. This leaves me to only being able to send the phone back or take it to an authorized repair . Oh well, I have said enough but just wanted to make clear my issues on both iPhone 12 pro’s are tiny hairline cracks that originate from the edge and only extend out about 3/8th of an inch. Both could be felt with a fingernail. I am, like you, seeing that most of the cracks reported on this thread are unique.
