iphone 12 pro screen cracking

Is anyone else experiencing their iPhone 12 Pro screen cracking for no apparent reason? I am on my 3rd iPhone 12 Pro because my first two developed screen cracks within 2 weeks of using. Apple swapped out both phone so it didn't cost me anything other than hassle but I can't imagine Apple will continue to swap out my iPhone into perpetuity. I've used iPhones for 13 years and never had a screen crack or chip. I've never had an extended warranty because I've never had a repair. I always use the Apple leather case and I work in an office. iPhone was not dropped. Cracks just showed up. Also, this has happened to my wife, son and daughter as well. One son's iPhone 12 Pro has not cracked.

for lobsterghost, I personally came here for community support, and to see if I was not alone. I was sad and mad and disheartened by a rouge crack on my 3rd day with this phone. And I know it’s not my fault. I came here for support and guidance. You provide only negative and useless diversion from the community help. If you are an Apple representative then please act like one. If you are a troll, we’ll congratulations, you have performed swimmingly. Now, please let us cross your bridge and wait for the next travelers. Good day.

You can get all the community support you want. But not one person on this forum can do a thing for you. If just getting comradery is good enough for you, great. Otherwise, do something for yourself other than looking for comradery. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show Apple your phone.

If you are suggesting I shouldn't post here. That's not going to happen, unless I've missed that you have purchased the forum. If you have, I'll bow to your expectations. Since I know you haven't. I'm as welcome to post here as you or anyone else.

I haven't been rude to you or anyone. Calling me a troll however, is very rude. I've been here on this forum, actually helping countless people with issues that can be solved with a technical solution. That's how I became level 10 and that's from other users marking my responses as helpful or having solved their issue. In this thread, however, there is no solution anyone can give you other than take your issue up with Apple directly.

hello pgregory,

yes I have apple care, but they first seemed my crack cosmetic . I argued the fact that I saw and felt a crack and I was concerned about water intrusion. The end result was a replaced phone.

I will have to say, I am not sure why all of the sudden a screen is easily scratched and it is deep enough to feel with a finger nail and is just considered cosmetic. I have never had a screen protector on any phone and feel if the manufacturer though it was necessary it would be included. I would suspect a screen protector would interfere with functionality and visibility of what you are looking at. I bought the iPhone 12 expecting a very tough, waterproof phone and paid a ton for it along with the apple care.

The apple care was although the ticket to get the phone replaced. I have bought apple care on all of my phones and never needed it until the 12pro.

The point is Apple has to agree an issue is caused by a manufacturing defect. It is Apple's sole discretion to make that determination. And if Apple agrees with you or anyone else who has a cracked screen it has been caused by a manufacturing defect, they will honor their warranty and replace the screen. It doesn't matter however, that you or anyone else thinks a crack was caused by a manufacturing defect. Apple makes that determination.

This becomes much harder to prove, when you recognize there honestly aren't many people with a cracked screen. This thread was started December 20, 2020. About a month after iPhone 12 was released. There have been less than 220 posts, and many many of those posts are by posters posting multiple replies in this thread. Like you and me are responding to each other multiple times. If you went and counted the actual number of unique posters saying they have a cracked screen the number of users would be significantly less. And as I've mentioned, out of the millions upon millions upon millions of iPhone 12 phones out in the world, this thread would be statistically insignificant in relation to the total number of units sold and being used.

So what does that do for you? If this was truly a manufacturing defect, it would make sense it would be way more common, effecting way more people. And many of those people would have by now found their way to this, the most visited iPhone forum in the world. And you'd see press reports of such a defect. But you're not seeing anything like that.

Take to an Apple Store. They will determine what you leaned against and unless you have Apple Care + determine it is cosmetic .

if it is in your back pocket they know you sat on it, if it’s in your front pocket you must have leaned against a counter or something. Keep it in your case and it had to rubbed against something . If you carry a purse something smashed it. Good luck

Yes. I have been an iPhone user since the first ever iPhone. My 6 month old iPhone 12 Pro back shattered while under the protector case. It was not subject too any more challenging events than my previous iPhones. The glass surface that shattered is super thin, thinner than an egg shell. Called apple and they were not interested in hearing about it or helping. They said I could get it repaired for $549!!! This new flagship iphone is a huge step backward in quality over the aluminum casing. So let down by apple!

I purchased my iPhone 12 Pro Max in October of 2020. I work from home, so 90% of the time, my phone is either on my desk or in my purse. I installed an Otterbox phone case on it the day I got it. A week later I turned my phone over and noticed that my back screen and camera were cracked. I went to the Apple store and pleaded with them that I have only had my phone a week and had the case on the whole time and never dropped it. The lady check out the phone fir any signs of dropping it. She said she didn’t see any, but feels bad for me that they can’t replace it. Luckily I do have Apple care and it covered it for $99. Fast forward to today. I looked at my camera area and saw a crack. I asked my husband to pull my case off and let’s take a look. My heart sank when I saw the back screen was cracked again. I am heart broken.

I have a similar issue on an IPhone 12. The day after I bought it I noticed that the bottom and the top of the glass are full of mini scratch or cracks. As if it was some kind of frame all around. I haven't dropped the phone. I have two explanations : either it was sold to me like that, or it happen because of the case the sales person at Rogers put on it. The case had to be broken to remove it...as if it wasn't meant to be put on that phone.

I bought iPhone 12 in Feb 2021. Unfortunately, after four months my screen broke without drop

I was on the video call with my office and saw the crack coming on my screen

I rush to the apple store. one of the team member was surprised to see why this happen and told me” I am shocked to see this” . I have a screen protector on top the associate remove the screen protector and try to analyze what is causing the damage but could not figure out and told me they can not feel anything on screen

Later they call the supervisor to see but she was surprised to see, ever couple other employees come and try to feel the screen but could not tell

the supervisor later on start telling me “this is physical damage and we can’t do anything” you have to pay $375 plus tax

I try to convince supervisor that I didn’t do anything plus I even saw the when this was happing but they all were it’s a physical damage so we can’t do anything it’s apple policy

on top of this supervisor was trying to tell me if you use your credit card, tell your credit card company to pay you back as apple will not do anything

I tried calling customer service they refuse to help and want me to pay for full repair even thought it’s not my mistake

I am very disappointed with the services apple is providing instead of looking they just want me to pay them $375 to put new screen

I will never buy apple again. I donot want to say but it’s such a big company with fake and cheap apples
