iphone 12 pro screen cracking

Is anyone else experiencing their iPhone 12 Pro screen cracking for no apparent reason? I am on my 3rd iPhone 12 Pro because my first two developed screen cracks within 2 weeks of using. Apple swapped out both phone so it didn't cost me anything other than hassle but I can't imagine Apple will continue to swap out my iPhone into perpetuity. I've used iPhones for 13 years and never had a screen crack or chip. I've never had an extended warranty because I've never had a repair. I always use the Apple leather case and I work in an office. iPhone was not dropped. Cracks just showed up. Also, this has happened to my wife, son and daughter as well. One son's iPhone 12 Pro has not cracked.

I just got an iPhone 12 this week, and 3 days later, after being extreemly careful with the phone, today there is what looks lie a crack ( just like how the cracks in a car windshield start ). It was sitting on my desk for an hour ( was not cracked before ) got up and looked at it, it was cracked. Can I be sure it is not a scratch? not 100% but WHAT the heck could have scratched the phone stinting on my desk! Good thing I paid $250.00 for the apple care plus and damage and theft and loss plan! I have NEVER had a cracked screen in all my days of iPhones ( I know that is no guarantee, as some have noted ) but really! this is a new ceramic glass, and I do see people having the same issue.

My purpose is to give you facts so you can do something beside complain. You get nothing from coming here. Apple isn't paying attention to you. So, if you believe your phone has a stress crack, do something about and take your phone to only people who can do anything for you. And that's take your phone to Apple.

Otherwise, you're wasting your time here.

And I'm also here to add balance in that I own two iPhone 12 phones and I know lots of other people who own iPhone 12 phones. None of us have any cracks in our phones. But I can assure you if I did, instead of trying to convince another user I had an issue on a user to user only forum, I'd take my phone to Apple as they are the only ones who can help you.

I’m having this issue currently. I’ve owned iPhones for probably 10 years and have never cracked a screen, basically since the first iPhone. I have the iPhone 12 pro max, it’s about 5 months old. Haven’t dropped it, not even off of the sofa, there has been zero trauma to this phone, I keep it in a pocket with nothing else in it. The other day I pulled it out of my pocket and there was a crack at the earpiece that radiates a third of the way down the phone and several directions. This is supposed to be the strongest iPhone glass yet, but it’s the first iPhone screen I have cracked since ever owning an iPhone. I don’t get it and I’m sure Apple will not do anything about it. I know there’s people out there I would say screens don’t just crack but this one did. At most there would’ve been pressure from a loose pair jeans in the front pocket. This is how I always carried my phones . Is there a possibility there was a defect in the glass? Any suggestions from anyone who has had success having Apple fix a problem like this for no charge?

My iPhone 12 Pro Max did the same thing this last week and I haven’t even had it a week! A hairline crack from the top camera across to the left side about 2/3 of the way to the edge. It’s not been dropped. I’ve been super super careful. I’m glad to hear others are having the issue. I’ll head to the Apple store immediately for replacement. PS. I have insurance, praise the Lord!

I got my iPhone 12 pro a couple weeks ago and the day after I got it out of the package I had it in my coat pocket and bent down to the ground to grab something and it fell out of my pocket (probably fell about a foot) and got a small crack in it. Now I understand that there is a reason that it cracked but seeing as I have dropped my older phones down flights of stairs multiple times on accident and dropped them numerous other times all without cracking, I definitely think that the iPhone 12 pro screens are weaker than Apples older phone screens, which is ironic seeing as they advertised how durable this one would be. Also a couple hours ago I noticed another new crack at the top of my screen and I have absolutely no clue where that one came from since I have not dropped my phone again and I know it was not there yesterday.

Carroll 8976,

I too have had a couple of iPhone 12pro's have small hairline cracks that originate on the left side of the screen just below the lower button. I would call them stress cracks too. The fact that they are stress cracks make me wonder, like you sliding door, that something has shifted or expanded. Possible the tolerances are so tight or in my case I am looking at the possibility that the new frame around the screen may not be strong enough to keep the pressure from usage and holding the phone from cracking the already fragile glass. It certainly wasn't marketed to be a wimpy throw away prepaid product. I guess it won't be long before the iPhone 13? do you actually think there will be a 13? or maybe they will skip like an elevator and go right to 14. In any case I am interested to see if they will keep with the same design.

It's kinda a shame that Apple has come so far in the technology and reliability of their products to have this screen issue start a bad trend.

I have just got off the phone with my service provider. My wife’s iPhone 12 Pro Max screen looks stressed also. She has had it for two weeks only. My service provider agreed to replace the phone but it should never come to this. It was in a mag case from Apple also. I purchased the case before the phone so the minute it was turned on it was in a the Apple case. Like other users, the edge of the glass is rough. Nothing smooth about it. Mine has not stressed yet, but I know what to look forward to. For $1200 none of us should be experiencing this.

my iPhone 12 Pro just fell from my jacket pocket no more than 3’ and caused it to crack. The only reason I upgraded phones was becoming of the ratings on the glass. I hate having to hate it on a case and cover it up. Why get a new $1,000+ phone to have break after 6 months. I started with iPhone 3, then 4, then 6, then SE, then 7, now IPhone 22 Pro and I absolutely hate it.

This has also happened to my wife and I. Neither of us has ever broken or cracked an iPhone. I go back to iPhone 3GS. All of a sudden, out of nowhere with no drops and always kept in an OtterBox, both of our phones have cracks.

Please tell me we’re not crazy and there are other people out there besides the guy that started this thread. These micro fine cracks are barely visible unless looking at them in the proper light.

I have a new iPhone 13 Pro, as soon as I bought it, I out it in the protective case, 2 days later I noticed a tiny crack at the right bottom corner. Not a scratch, but an actual crack. I haven’t dropped it, haven’t pushed on the edges, just put on the case and that’s it. How is rubber case able to crack the glass? Will bring it to the store tomorrow.
