2020 MacBook Pro M1 wake from sleep issue

For those who might read that line and not understand "get Big Sur 'recovery' back", I had done something that changed the installed 'recovery' on the Mac to something else by responding to an email sent to ALL registered Mac users inviting them to examine a PUBLIC piece of operating system software.

I'm very sincere in stating that I was unaware that an offhand mention of that by name was against the rules. Please accept my apologies.

Does anyone who has had the hardware change/logicboard change still have this issue?

Looking at this thread it appears to have been going for a year, and not been resolved.

I brought my MacPro M1 in September, so keen to get it 'fixed' under warranty rather than wait and see if it improves.

The ESC trick doesn't work for me, I have tried adjusting the auto brightness, and am on the latest version on Monterey (not the beta) - it still does it! This isn't right.

My nearest Apple Store is 60 miles away, so would prefer not to have to drive there and back to get this sorted.

Guess I will have to do the same. Go to some one external.

Changing the screen doesn't make sense as the screen is working perfectly fine.

Not able to understand what mechanism malfunctions when the lid is closed or the computer is shut down.

Till the screensaver is on it works perfectly fine!!!

Did you find out what was the malfunction that needed to be fixed?

I have the issue on an M1 Mac Studio. A few times tonight I had to force a reboot. I realized by the error messages that it wasn’t rebooting, it was crashing on restart. I spent a lot of money on this machine to upgrade from an older iMac. Pretty bummed to be scraping the internet for a fix for ‘Sleep’

I am having this same issue. if it goes to sleep, with the screen open or closed, the screen stay off on wake. Closing and reopening the screen does solve it.

I'll give that a try, seems easier than constantly openeing, closing the lid.

Yep. I use Drift btw.

Anyone figure out a fix yet? This still happens to me on MacOS 11.2. Strangely, if you reboot it or let it sleep and try again it seems to work leading me to think this is software not hardware.

Wow, that also works for me, thanks for the tip, much better than closing/opening the lid.

not fixed for me in 11.2.1. Even with the escape key trick it doesn’t always work

I have updated with 11.2.1. It didn't fix this issue.

Same here rag2ioC. I was on 11.1RC and it happened. Loads then freezes, reboot turns into boot loop, safe mode won’t work at all and Touch Bar is off

I have the same problem on my M1 MacMini. Have to unplug the cable ( usb to display ) to get the screen working again. Last nights oS upgrade did not solve it

Having the exact same issue on my MacBook Air M1.

Big Sur 11.2.2 didn't fix it.
