2020 MacBook Pro M1 wake from sleep issue

Just bought a new M1 MacBook Pro 13" and when I close the lid and have it sleep for a while, upon opening the lid the screen does not come on. I have to close the lid and then open it again for the screen to turn on, does anyone else have this issue? I have messed with all the display options, restarted the laptop, etc, but no luck. Also running the latest Big Sur update.

When I put it to sleep and immediately open the lid again the wake up works fine, it's only when the computer is asleep for a longer period is when I have this issue.

For me, if you use a flash light you can see the screen is on, just no backlight. Not sure if this is the same issue as everyone else or not

I found a possible workaround. On my M1 MacBook Air, I set a Hot Corner to start a screen saver. If I open the lid and the backlight is off, I mouse into the corner which starts the screen saver. When I move the cursor from the corner or press a key the back light comes on.

It would appear apple has chosen to ignore this thread not take ownership to look into this issue as it has been going on since this product was released and has yet to acknowledge there is an issue. Not bad customer service for $1400.. Good thing there are accessories and phones that keep me coming back for more of this addiction.. Can this be replaced with an intel please?.. I tried but looks like someone in product management wanted an early bonus last year by heavy stock holders.

I have been a Mac person for 20 odds years now and have always had little or no issues however since my recent purchase of the Macbook Pro this Sleep issue has been a problem and am very disappointed that neither Mac no I have resolve it. Close the lid and if its not opened soon It will need to be powered down, turn off an on again and if lucky it will start up and the mouse may or may not connect. ,,,Disappointing.

It a shame for Apple not being able to solve such a major issue for months. The number of "I have this question too" votes has been increasing every day for this discussion. (Also there is another discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252167152) I have been trying to contact Apple Support via phone and chat but no one could solve it. They advice me to wait for a software update but I have been waiting since 11.3.0.

This is just ridiculous. Apple has known about the issue since January 2021 and they have yet to address it. Various people are complaining... I have several clients that have purchased M1 Macbooks and they are constantly experiencing this issue. Here we are almost 8 months later with no solution. Apple support is clueless when it comes to this issue. What is happening to Apple...

Same problem here with an MacBook Pro M1 bought on Sept 1st 2021. Have to close the lid once or twice for the screen to come on. Mine is an Apple refurb so how did they not see this problem when carrying out the 'extensive testing'?

Irritating at best when using but makes me angry when Apple don't address what is obviously a common problem, particularly when I was on the verge of going PC.

Did any of the earlier posters get any favourable feedback from Apple?

Someone earlier mentioned that under System Information/Graphics/Display/Automatically Adjust Brightness should be labelled 'YES'. Mine is 'NO'. Is that relevant?
