2020 MacBook Pro M1 wake from sleep issue

Just bought a new M1 MacBook Pro 13" and when I close the lid and have it sleep for a while, upon opening the lid the screen does not come on. I have to close the lid and then open it again for the screen to turn on, does anyone else have this issue? I have messed with all the display options, restarted the laptop, etc, but no luck. Also running the latest Big Sur update.

When I put it to sleep and immediately open the lid again the wake up works fine, it's only when the computer is asleep for a longer period is when I have this issue.

I finally got around to letting Apple "repair" my M1 MBA. After going a week without, the work performed was described "replaced display assembly."

3 days after getting the machine back, the issue happened again, and it reoccurs every few days now. (As before, I haven't found a reliable way to repeat the issue on demand.)

I was recently told that if I were to bring my MBA in for another repair attempt, it might be _several_ weeks for the repair due to the upcoming Christmas Holidays. I'm losing faith in Apple.

I have a one year old Mac and after facing this issue for a month or so the Mac one day just wouldn't wake up from sleep despite pressing the escape button or the reset ctrl shift del options etc. The franchise service centre (we don't have Apple owned showrooms in India still!!!) replaced the logic board erasing all my data and now I am back to the same issue. Thanks for the "reopening laptop lid" trick. That seems to be working as of now. But how ridiculous to have to do that each time.

The service centre said they needed to replace the screen to take care of the issue. Don't understand how that can be the issue, when the screen is working just fine. I also rarely get blue vertical lines on the screen but they also go away after closing and opening the lid/restarting the machine.

Very frustrating. Planning to take legal action against the franchisee service centre for being clueless and mishandling the issue so badly!

And Apple customer care refuses to intervene. Total nightmare!

Well they changed the logic board and in the process deleted all my data without informing me that newer models have the hard disk also as part of the logic board.

Now they say they need to change the screen but I am not convinced. That's like changing the whole device.

The only way it works is if I keep it on permanently. On screen saver mode so the screen is active.

The minute I shut the lid the lines are back or the black screen is back and I have to start my process of flapping the lid or restarting the machine and then flapping the lid or resetting the smc etc and then flapping the lid open and close to get the screen activated again!

Fortunately for me, service managed to fix it. They changed the main board and loudspeakers(?). After that, my mac started to work correctly.

But before it started to work I was twice in local apple service and then I had to send it somewhere else. Overall it took about one month... ridiculous!

Why did I even receive a new laptop which doesn't work as expected?

So for all of you waiting for solving this with software update - it might not be the case.

Guess I will have to do the same. Go to some one external.

Changing the screen doesn't make sense as the screen is working perfectly fine.

Not able to understand what mechanism malfunctions when the lid is closed or the computer is shut down.

Till the screensaver is on it works perfectly fine!!!

Did you find out what was the malfunction that needed to be fixed?
