iphone 12 pro max battery health degrading

I got my new 128GB 12 Pro Max with blue silicon case on the 11/13 launch day. In the weeks since I’ve noticed the battery health has already dropped to 98%. I’ve only used public releases of iOS and haven’t installed any iOS beta’s that would have enabled extra logging functions that could have negatively impacted battery life and health. Optimized charging has been enabled the whole time, and it’s only been charged with a USB-A cable and an Apple 5W charger. I don’t see any apps standing out as battery hogs, and I’m using my phone as much as I did my 11 Pro Max. I’m shocked to see the battery health drop below 100% in the first 6 weeks, and at this rate it will be below 90% by summer 2021. Has anyone else noticed their battery health has dropped below 100% on a 12 Pro Max?

It has nothing to do with chronological time. It is “80% is normal after 500 full charge cycles”. A full charge cycle is from 0 to 100% (or combinations that add up to 100% such as 20% to 70% twice). And you should never let it go to 0% intentionally; that WILL shorten the capacity of the battery if it happens frequently. Ideally, charge it when it gets to 20%, and charge it overnight, every night, with Optimized charging enabled.

That is ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. I don’t know where you got that WRONG information, but if you follow it your battery longevity will be much shorter than if you follow the way Apple designed the phone to work. why do you think Apple added Optimized charging if they didn’t expect you to use it?

The absolute best way to improve the life of your battery long term is to enable Optimized Battery Charging (Settings/Battery/Battery Health) and charge the device overnight, every night. The battery will fast charge to 80%, then pause. During the night the phone will use mains power instead of battery power, allowing the battery to “rest”, and thus reducing the need to charge the battery quite as often. The phone will resume charging to reach 100% when you are ready to use your phone; it will “learn” your usage pattern.

My battery health(iPhone 12Pro Max) has dropped to 97%. I purchased new phone for my satisfaction but this phone is destroying myself. My iPhone XSMax retained battery health to 96% since I purchased few years back. Similarly, iPhone 11 pro max retained battery health 97% since my purchase a couple of years back. I am not satisfied with the performance of battery health of iPhone 12 pro max. I also provided feedback on website but no one is listening. Apple should do something because the customers like myself, which were once admirers of iPhone may need to think other solutions.....

In all of my phones the optimized battery charging remains on. The previous models reacted differently to iPhone 12 pro max. Apple should seriously think to resolve the issue. Because, there might be something wrong with the model.

What was your battery health at to have the store approve an exchange? How old is the iPhone? I’m at 94 and purchased on launch day. My issue is that it was at 100% until last month and then all of a sudden it’s been dropping like crazy, like 1% a week. I’m hoping it will level off and last a little longer. I do have AppleCare+ but I really don’t feel like paying a deductible if Apple won’t replace it since it’s over 80%.

It was @ 92%. And the drop was so sudden as well. I got the phone in Nov and all was good and then in April or so it went to 98% and kept going. I think around the time of ios14. I don’t do gaming or anything like that. Simple browsing and watching Youtube.

In addition I don’t plan on upgrading when the new ones come out. So I made a point to get it looked after quickly.

Yes mine is down to 95% and I also got mine on launch day 11/13. It’s pretty alarming and I never noticed this on previous iphones, this quickly. My X from 2017 I still have and it’s at 80%. I use Apple’s lightning cable and one of their proprietary bricks, not sure the power. Also using magsafe as often as possible, more now cuz it’s better for the battery. Still it’s alarming.

I have contacted genius bar x2 and apple online chat x 2. All they could do was the diagnostic tool, the answers were always the same with battery lying in the green zone. No abnornmal charging was noted.

one asked not to charge overnight , one asked me to charge as usual, one asked me to do optimisation charge while keeping overnight charge. One even asked me not use the phone so often, dont play games or watch movies too often, switch off 5G……if in this case, why should I use iphone???? Should I use Android????

I used window Ce, pocket pc, window mobile then switched to iphone since iphone 4. I never use android all along .

I tell u, I am not using my iPhone 12 Pro differently. I am only screen for around 4-5h per day. I never let my battery drained . My habit is the same since iphone 4. The battery was 100% from dec 2020 to March 2021, then dropped suddenly at 1% per 2 weeks then 1% per week lately . Don’t tell me that it is normal . My x and xs were 100% and 98% at 1y. My xs is still 88% at 2.5y. My charge cycle is only 76 but health at 94%, is it a normal figure to u?

we are talking about abnormal degrading , otherwise there will be no such long thread here

I believe it, seen some that have had theirs since launch day - still showing 100%. health

Not all 12 batteries I THINK are royally messed up. Plus there are quite a few that show 100+% health capacity. One showed 106.4% (real or photoshopped who knows. but I know some come with over 100% health)

I assume once it hits that 99%, the % drops faster...seems like in the 12, it's dropping like a rock.

Even when my phone is showing a 100% CHARGE (not health), once it hits 99%, it's a quick free fall.
