Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

There seem to be more reports of this issue over the past few days; as of now, there's no official response from Apple yet, but it's certainly not normal.

For the most part it seems the phone can function normally after it boots up, although in my case it eventually led to the phone needing to be connected to power before it would boot up. I'm waiting to see what Apple says over the next few days.

Mine as well... got a new Blue iPhone 12 Pro Max 256 on Saturday, Jan 16th and it did this very same thing, so I had it replaced the very next day and the new one did the exact same thing. My wife also got the new Blue iPhone 12 Pro Max but the 128 version. Hers works perfectly like it should normally. So trying to understand what the deal is... I only have maybe 10 days left to decide whether to keep this phone... is apple going to fix this in the next 10 days? I don't want to end up getting stuck with an iPhone 11 or a smaller 12 Pro either. I did hear from someone else that said they swapped out his phone 3 times and the third one worked fine... so that has me worried about this being a possible manufacturing problem.

If Apple or anyone has any new info on this please let me know before my time runs out.

Thanks

I purchased iPhone 12 Pro 128 gb Pacific Blue on 1-16, exchanged it on 1-18 and I still have the same problem. So, I have about 12 days to return mine. I purchased an iPhone 12 Pro Max 128 gb Gold last month, and this phone does not have this problem. So I am going to see if any news comes out this week and if everything remains the same, I will be returning for a full refund. I don't want any problems later if I decide to keep it.

The senior advisor indicates that this is something that software cannot be solved moderately and that it requires a repair or a replacement.

In addition, he also indicates that if there are no further problems with the iPhone, this is not necessarily something to worry about or that other problems may arise due to this phenomenon.

So now you have the choice to continue with a repair or replacement, or to accept it as there are no further problems with the iPhone besides glitching in the reboot.

Just called Apple and spoke with a senior advisor directly. He mentioned that currently Apple knows nothing about this issue happening yet so they opened a case for me and I was able to send in and attach a video clip of this issue happening so they have a better understanding of what's occurring. They also said as long as this issue is not causing any operational phone issues to not worry about the iphone because Apple would replace them under there 1 year warranty or even beyond that timeframe should this possible manufacturing defect / issue cause other problems outside of direct iphone damage. So since they do not know about this problem yet maybe that is why a software fix is not yet in or working on beta 14.4.

So my own experience has been that this issue only occurs right after you sync your backup, or after you put it on a charger for the first time (my wifes new iphone)... since my first replaced phone after it was erased and reset at Verizon store did boot up normally again from the reset.

Hopefully Apple will do something to recognize this issue and address it.

It’s odd because for all the cases that have been reported here, there must be many more that have been reported to the Genius Bars. I decided to wait it out because it did lead to other problems, such as the inability to reset the phone or to turn it on without connecting it to power.

I’m also curious about the phone you returned to Verizon, because the ones I tried, no form of restore / update / revive would eliminate the single flash logo on boot. I even went to install iOS 14.4 beta 2, with no change.

Anyway, will wait it out, also with the hope that someone at Apple will eventually take action.

I think Apple will address this issue in an update/patch since it seems like people are saying its issue is part of iOS14.3 and not the original version release... but it probably will not make it into iOS 14.4 as the master build has already been released to the developers and this update is slated to come out next week (we can always hope though)... But it really does not affect the phones operation or even the overall boot time to a normal either, just a weird startup operation. And what other choice do you have... an old iPhone 11 or go Samsung... afraid not! I'm going to hang on and hope for the best hopefully with 14.4

Yep!

I am pretty convinced its only with devices that ship with ios14.3.

I had a 12 pro with ios 14.2 -> no issue

I had 2 iphone 12 pro max with ios 14.3 -> both same issue.

A collegae of mine orders few days ago iphone 12 pro max with ios 14.2.1 -> no issue.

but are we really really convinced apple can fix this through an update?

I have the hard choice to make on sending my pro max back since I am still in cooldown period of my webshop...and indeed an iphone 11 or android is not an option :-)

I received my replacement yesterday and it has this problem. These are my observations:

Previous phone: 12 Pro Max, F2 week 51. Came with 14.2 and did not have this issue.

Current phone: 12 Pro Max, F2 week 52. Came with 14.3 and has this issue.

They stopped signing 14.2 around this time, which might be why they changed to 14.3 as preinstalled from week 51 to 52.
